Summer Workouts

"Players know when they're getting conned," says Rautins (Leo). I think they read Jim pretty well. He doesn't give them a line of junk. I had coaches telling me everything -- 'You're gonna do this -- you're gonna be a starter.' Jim would say, 'Hey, you have as much of a chance as anybody I've ever recruited, but I can't tell you you're going to start. It's not fair to the guys I have and it's not fair to you. If you do what I think you're capable of doing, most likely that will be your spot, but I can't just give it to you.'

From the winter 1995/96 Syracuse Alumni Magazine which I just happened to read yesterday while clearing out a bunch of old SU related stuff

Leo played at Syracuse 40 years ago. 40.

You should mentally prepare yourself for Girard to be at 36 minutes a game, likely more.

He's our only proven shooter and we haven't had a minutes leader average less than 36 minutes a game since MCW in the 2012-2013 season. It sounds nuts, but the numbers don't lie.

Joe's our most experienced guy. He's never checking out.
Remember last year when Symir was gonna play 20-25 mins a game in the preseason?

The freshman version of these 3 guys says hello:

A quote from a decade before today's recruits were born isn't completely invalid... But it might be dated.

Also, the conversation was about JB recruiting from even two decades earlier.

Yeah, seemed like a clear shift in strategy in that regard in that era.

I’m all for going back to it, if we can reel in center recruits like those 3 again.
Wouldn’t have a quarrel with it at all. Could care less who starts, just who finishes.

Carey is a top 50 kid if he had the chance to show it.

Clingan finished 45th in the composite rankings and I would take Carey over him without hesitation. He’s going to be a stud.

I love this take what I heard the same thing about Sidibe in his class center counterparts

Why do you say this? I am least optimistic about him. He can dunk in warmups, but doesn’t seem to be a basketball player right now.

I don’t get that at all. He’s a really fluid athlete.

There’s also plenty of game video in his recruiting thread. Granted some is old because of his lost seasons but it’s not all just practice.

I do not know where you get that. Yes he will be a frosh, He can dunk, however he runs the floor better than most guys his size, he has soft hands, has a better handle than most bigs, and distributes for assists well, These things are all visible in game clips.
He may be rusty from not playing last season, he probably has a lot to learn, but to say he is not a basketball player is just not true.
