TE Landon Morris / Portal from Utah to Temple

No issues with the staff on this. To me this is like the interns I've had asking for a raise after a couple months and then bailing. Wish the kid well but that kind of mindset doesn't typically bode well for long term success- that said its a new world. See more of this in the professional world too.

If this kid can make plays why wouldn’t we use him as a weapon.
I like Dino but this chit is getting annoying.
Our offense has been absolutely nothing he advertised.

This sucks.

I think it's way way way too soon in that kid's career to jump to that conclusion.

Just such a waste of recruiting time and resources that he's already jumping ship.

That said, I hope he doesn't end up at BC, who was one of his finalists. But I'd also guess that this sort of stuff will follow him around. More a reflection on the kid than the staff in my opinion.

He a freaking true freshman. How about putting in the work and earning your role.
For real. This is either:

Homesickness disguised as disgruntledness

Or 2, thinking more highly of yourself than you ought

But if he ends up at another Power 5 school all the more power to him. I'm wondering what those odds are though. You look at the Cuse transfers, and I think every one of them, save maybe 2 (Jordan, Kpogba?) went to non-Power 5

I guess but that's how he was used and that's how Syracuse recruited him. If he was told certain things and it wasn't coming to fruition then I don't blame him.
Nope...you don't quit like this

You give it the Fall then make a decision.

He quit on his team and himself.

We lose a Scholie for the year and he can transfer and play in September

Yeah, we lost like 3 out of the 8 guys on my floor at Lawrinson after Frosh year.

It’s college. It happens.
We lost a kid the first weekend at college...but overdosing does that sometimes. He got rolled out on a stretcher and his Dad the superintendent of a school district in Rockland County brought him home. Hopefully he figured it out

Wish the kid well but it tells me he didnt have the grit needed to excel at the P5 level. Its unfortunate we lost a scholarship for the year but Im hearing Mang is stepping up. Benson continues to be steady along with Mahar. Thats two freshmans and a sophomore. We are ok.

No he cannot play in September. To be immediately eligible as a transfer he had to go into the portal by July 1st. Has to sit out until 22 season.

I got participation trophies for T-Ball 30 years ago. Stop it with the "this generation" panic.

and let’s not forget, it’s the 40 yr old parents asking for these trophies not the kids. Pinning the “participation trophy” idea on the kids is funny.

It’s the almost NFL player or UFC fighter dad (because he couldn’t decide or he hurt his shoulder), that’s a tough guy to the refs, wants to make sure his little kiddo has a trophy for FB between posting stupid meme’s.

Sorry for the rant that is true.

He was probably Loling at the bitterness of your post.
Why does he need proof when you are not offering any yourself?
Fair on the guesswork for both parties. I’d simply ask, what’s more likely?

As someone else said, maybe they told him he’d get a WR shot?

I guess I was just amused at everyone jumping on the system when he’s not really been there very long.

Hate to lose any high level recruits but it seems to me this young man is very impatient and there is probably more to the story than what Landon has mentioned, maybe he couldn't beat out some of the other players at his position ? with that said next man up.

He had some really good offers (Michigan Iowa St BC) so wondering what’s up here. Kid is some sort of a player and what makes ya leave this early

Is he still enrolled? Will he take classes for the year?

We will probably never know.
Kid could have been home sick or did not like his role.
It’s interesting he did not leave after spring. If he personally thought his role would be different and it was not than he made the decision to leave in his mind for a better opportunity.
If staff told him his role would be different and it was not that is an issue DB will need to address. I’ve always felt DB is extremely upfront with his players.
Interesting he entered the portal after the first scrimmage.
I personally do not like it when players bail during a season but it’s a personal choice.

I'm going to backpedal just a bit on some of my initial thoughts here.

I think that the running game is drastically changing under Schmidt, and that will change the look of the offense ...how often the TE needs to stay in to block/what is expected at that position going forward.

This could be Morris' motivation for moving on, and the reason he says the coaches had good intentions.

I'm thinking Landon was recruited while Cavanagh was still coach and was recruited to the system that was in place under him. The hiring of Schmidt I truly believe drastically changed some things that even the coaches could not foresee before he was hired.

I can be corrected here if I am wrong

I'd like to see us incorporate the TE position more but this offense has never needed to target the TE 8+ times a game to be successful.

Bummer of a loss but this is the new transfer rule in effect again
Has the offense been successful in most of the Dino era?

I’ll care more about this if halfway through the season we aren’t throwing or using the TE’s in the passing game. ESPECIALLY (yes, I’m yelling) when the defense is basically giving us the middle of the field and we don’t utilize it the entire game.

Until then, I don’t care and who knows what the deal is.
I’ve never understood why Dinos offense has almost always been strictly plays to receivers outside the numbers. it’s quite literally shrinking the field and limiting the plays that are there to be made. i miss the year 1 offense with erv finding the soft spot in the defense and eric hitting him for a nice gain of 5-7. and in reference to landon, good coaches find ways to get good players involved, if you can’t change your scheme or get creative with your play calling to get these players touches then you shouldn’t be a head coach. especially not at this level. it’s 2021 the TE position has turned into a hybrid WR, you’d think with the “fastest show on turf” dino would be all over that, instead he flat out ignores the position? never made sense to me and i think it shows just how flawed dino is when it comes to adapting. luke benson could be an absolute game changer with his ability, and last year he had 6 receptions for 63 yards. just a complete waste of a very talented player.
