The Case for Giving Shafer More Time

there is - literally - nothing trollish with that post. You may disagree with the post, but simply accusing other posters of trolling simply because their opinion is different that yours does nothing to elevate or push forward the conversation.

You've been fond of trumpeting your supposed "objective" thinking. I haven't seen very much of it on display in this thread. In fact, you come off quite the opposite.

Entitled to you opinion.

I don't think Marrone gave Shafer much momentum because all the momentum we gained graduated to the NFL. The offensive cupboards were bare at that point without much experience coming back.

So they were bare. But Shafer is supposed to somehow pull a rabbit out of his hat in 2.5 years. Also last year with the injuires not withstanding? Guess I just don't see how all these arguments against shafer hold water. I see the data. Its not strong that he has been outstanding, however there are a LOT of reasons for it. For which I support another year and possible 1.5/2 years

marrone made all his progress on offense in his last year when most the important pieces of it graduated

there's not that much momentum when you go from nassib lemon sales pugh and chibane to hunt broyld west trudo and hickey
Exactly. It's amazing how often people ignore this. Shafer didn't inherit a team that was in disarray or anything, but the offensive cupboard was pretty darned bare.

everyone makes it too complicated. shafer was hired to continue the momentum. uh what momentum.

We had 4 games of "momentum".

People seem to forget that we started that season at 2-4. Which coupled with the prior season's collapse meant that we were in the middle of a 2-9 stretch. And we were 4-5 after losing to Cincy.

So we had a magical 4-0 finish and won a bowl game, but 2012 was not 1987, or 1992, or 1998, or even 2001. It was a month respite from an otherwise putrid decade. And then the players who fueled it graduated, and the head coach bailed and took most of his staff with him.

Shafer didn't have a "total rebuild" but he wasn't exactly in Larry Coker's shoes either.

Syracuse fans?

No people with horse heads. Im going to delete mine. You have been fine over the years. I think your picture is out of line though. I am sure what a troll is and some of these people are just that.

Also not paying for another coach.

One home game with a crowd of 45k would pay Shafer's buyout. SU has big boy tv $ now and unless Coyle is blowing it as quickly as Gross, this isn't an issue anymore.

Not sure I agree but. I mean if they can shell out for Chip Kelly - then go ahead make the move.

Look. Precedent shows that the puts him on the edge. But A.) It's not happened yet and B.) There are more factors than w-l. It might be the biggest marble in the pot - but it's not the only one. If you think Coyle is that kind of AD, we might be in more trouble than we know.

Why would we be in trouble if the AD values wins as most important? If you want to root for GPA's root for Cornell.

Syracuse can absolutely afford a HC in the 2.5- 3 mil range. Again, this isn't Doc Gross' budget. Last I heard Mrs. Coyle isn't on the payroll for 100+k

OK, but elimu was just posting his opinion. Even if you don't like it or think it's "negative" that's not trolling.
