The dome...

I think some creative minds could come up with some nice box seating in the lower 10 rows of the upper deck that could add value do that with 2-3 on each endzone of the bball court if they want.

the other issue is that while we sell 30K a couple times a year i think we could actually get 25K there much more of often if you made more decent bball seating. move the court just slightly and you bring 1-2K of seats back into decent viewing range with marginal effects on the other. if you remove some seats to make better fball seats you drive up demand for the bball seats that will more limited

still wish they would at least try rotating the court 90 degree and see what sight lines they could effect.

do it one game thats not part of the season package and see what happens.

Yep.

It's funny that we spend so much time and energy here lamenting our attendance, when I tend to think the real issue is that we're trying to fill several thousand seats that should never have been built. I've always said that the Dome looks good when there are 42K people in the place. What if that 42K was in a venue with 44K individual seats instead of 50K spaces on silver benches? Would look even better. And the more full a venue feels the more excitement there is in the crowd. Fill the War Memorial to capacity with with 6K people and it'll feel like it's rockin'. Put 6K in the Dome and it's a morgue.

Depends on if the administration deems the cost of individual seats are worth it. Have to remember that individual seats require more upkeep and cleaning costs than the bench system.

However figuring out a way to add more boxes would be a way to offset this potential cost.

The area where the media goes to is prime real estate. They could make 8-10 more boxes. Problem is the Dome lacks the stacked levels of more modern stadiums.

Moving media to a new location and replacing that space with private boxes would be huge. Not sure if Dome could re-configure to swing that one.

I'm betting it will be a major overall like we've discussed here before. Total blowout of the west end and adding another connecting building. Restaurant, offices, maybe SM school, media room, etc.

The 1st rule in Govt spending... Why spend $150 million on sprucing up an old building - when you can have a brand new building for only double the price?

I think SU could run a wire across the field from the 50 yard line to the 50 yard line, kind of like was done to hang the blue curtain on. Media members could be given some mountain climbing/zip line type gear to attach themselves to the line and could be free to slide up and down at needed to facilitate coverage. Could probably jury rig a second line to provide them with dome dogs, dome beers and NASA diapers as needed.

Or they could be moved to the roof of the Dome and peek through the holes to watch the games that way.

revisiting an old argument here, but if NYS had coughed up hundreds of millions for a new stadium, do you think they'd be as likely to "win" $500 Million from Cuomo's Upstate Revitalization program?

I'm not arguing that it's a good idea for Cuomo to do this stupid game show of his. I hate this crap. But if Miner ends up with 500 million that she wouldn't have gotten had they gone forward with the stadium, will the people who freaked out reconsider their position?

Depends on what she does with the money. There are a lot of horrible ways a mayor could waste that much money.

Hate to say it...but her idea of improving the water line infrastructure is a great use of the money...it should be taken a further step and bury electric and other utility lines in designated areas.

fiber optic internet is another great use of the money, right after replacing the water pipes. I would have love to have had a new stadium but in hindsight it's not the best way to spend that much money.

It's a funny situation. I don't like a lot of what she's done, but the infrastructure plan was terrific. And it's not going to happen because (in another great move of hers) she rubbed the governor's face in s--- over the pension plan three years ago and he's doing everything he can to punish her for it.

i agree. and cuomo is not likely to write a 500 million dollar check for something as mundane as fixing sewers or roads. it'll probably be something sexier like putting tiny windmills on everyone's heads. all i'm saying is that cuomo would probably take stadium funding into consideration and write the check to rochester or albany. that money was never a windfall imo

Miner certainly won't get it for water and sewer upgrades though I think that is a good use of public funds. Cuomo basically said this has to help with private projects (or something like that). She probably won't get anything in any case because she is Miner and we all know they don't like each other...that's the politics baby.

When Cuomo announced the "competition" mid-month...

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney attended Cuomo's speech today in Rochester, as did mayors from Rochester, Utica, Binghamton and Buffalo. Miner did not attend. She was invited, but had other commitments, said her press secretary, Alexander Marion.

She has more important things to do.

The model is the Buffalo Billion, under which Cuomo pledged $1 billion in 2012 for economic development in Western New York. Since then, according to the governor's office, the Buffalo region has seen $11.3 billion in regional private investment, the addition of 3,772 jobs and 812 new firms, and a 4 percent increase in total wages.

Not that he would necessarily have any knowledge of it, but this is exactly what HCSS told me he'd like to see this past summer.

He said their pie in the sky deal would be to remove the bleachers and replace with seats. He said it would decrease capacity by 5-10K but said that's ok, from his point of view due to the football attendance issues. West-End expansion with added amenities for food and beverage. Retractable roof. His big deal was the seating though.

I asked if he thought the new stadium ever really had any legs to it, he said absolutely not.

It was just interesting to hear what he thought.

Am i the only person that likes bleacher style seating? If you sit in the lower levels and you are taller than 6'0 you cant even sit normally without your knees being jammed by seatbacks. I hate that garbage. One of the luxuries with The Dome is that its not Fenway park, which is only comfortable if you are 5'6 and 130 lbs. Individual seats may look nicer..but being a big guy I prefer what we have. Paint the damn bleachers orange and offer free seat pads to anyone that wants them. Spend the money on blowing the west end of the stadium out, and add a bunch of bars and restaurants. Throw in a ESPN studio that is better than anything The Seminoles just built. We could even have a sportscaster hall of fame there for the hell of it. Heck...why not even make it like the Skydome and put a hotel on the side of The Dome as well. Let's get crazy with this.

Free She-Wee with your ticket. No more waiting in the ladies room!

The Lady pee-er is a better model. Less drip concerns. It's an Adirondack mountains favorite.

I am fine with current bleachers. I think painting them would be a waste but putting more color somewhere else makes sense. I agree that when spending money, spend it on other real upgrades as you have suggested.

Any chance a major renovation could address the concourses? Cattle drives pre- and post-game and at halftime are fun for gropers out there but tough for the rest of us. Although I'll never turn down a good grope...

The current bleachers suck, putting in seats would be great especially if they have cup holders for beer. Also I don't want to compete with others for the same 6 inches of seat

For a game a couple weeks ago, I had to sit the entire game with my upper body turned sideways. That was not fun.

Cupholders would be huge... I'm so sick of people kicking them over... And spilling an open beer on me... A man can dream.

I am lucky. We are in a corner and there are only 5 seats in our entire row. I own all 5 so I don't have to deal with people I don't know.

Is there a scenario where you can put in real seats in prime locations, thus giving people an incentive to buy up to better seats? could keep bleaches on the sides / end zones that dont show up on TV and that way it at least looks fuller on TV

Not a bad idea but those bleacher seats are also prime seats for basketball.

i've been to a few stadiums/arenas where the cup holder is so tilted that it's almost useless until you've drank half the beer. they might cause more spills. that drives me nuts too.
