The dome...

2005 IIRC...Marlboro Jake said it couldn't be done (Field Turf)...TGD got it done for the GRob home opener.

As long as they were going to use if for indoor track they couldn't do it, so Jake was right.

You decide not to host track meets, it's not a long putt after that.

The breakthrough was the palletized turf and the blue tiles. BTW, I wonder with a remodel if an indoor track is still a no-go?

As long as field turf is in place, a track is out of the question...unless you are bringing in some kind of portable track. Now a track would have worked well inside the IPF, or maybe they will revise Manley to make it usable.

Yeah and the turf has ~10 year life span. I just couldn't recall if it had been replaced yet on not. I'm really pushing to try and make the Spring game this year and was curious if it was already in place. Makes sense that they would wait until August (right before the season) to replace it though.

there was more to the objection than just that. basketball floor, storage. maybe it's harder to paint 10,000 different high school fields on field turf, maybe that was the real objection

Two things. First thank God that the stadium is staying on campus. We simply dont have the fan base to support anything off campus. We dont have people driving across the state in campers on saturdays and moving off campus would destroy the students.

Second the 500m should be spent on 2 to no more than 5 companies. Energy or Htech. Give Amazon, Ebay, Facebook, ect... a reason to tape into our students and the surrounding students. Give them each 20 years of no corporate taxes and 100m for infastructure and you will see Syracuse come back. That would be my plan

It has not been decided that it will stay on campus. $500M?

Quinn said there are three potential alternatives when looking at the future of the Dome: replacing the current roof as is, installing a new roof structure while simultaneously making other improvements or building a different stadium off-site.

SU is assessing the three possibilities as part of the Campus Master Plan framework, Quinn said.

Dougherty said that if there is an agreement, a new stadium could be built within a year.

I think this thread was begun because Jake heard that SU has assessed these three possibilities and determined that it will proceed with a Dome renovation. What you're quoting was true when it was written; now we have more information.

And Jake's not the only person who heard this.

play sexy football and who the cares what the dome looks like-

when you have a enjoyable game to watch who cares about touching butts spilled beer ect ect

Oh. You thought I quoted an old article :) I quoted from an article that written in the Daily Orange 4 days ago (when Jake posted).

But for now, no proposal is on the table.

That's what SU is saying to the public, but unless someone hands over the money to build a new on-campus stadium that SU controls, a renovation is what is going to happen. I have heard that SU isn't looking to be a tenant in some other deal.

Could be. I heard SU would love to be a tenant instead of an owner (which is why they jumped at the offer last year). I'd prefer on-site so I hope that Quinn guy is wrong

i agree. and cuomo is not likely to write a 500 million dollar check for something as mundane as fixing sewers or roads. it'll probably be something s e xier like putting tiny windmills on everyone's heads. all i'm saying is that cuomo would probably take stadium funding into consideration and write the check to rochester or albany. that money was never a windfall imo

If she revisits an old plan we had in 1995 to dome the whole g.d. city, then everything else falls into place.

Am i the only person that likes bleacher style seating? If you sit in the lower levels and you are taller than 6'0 you cant even sit normally without your knees being jammed by seatbacks. .

You can't win in college football if your stadium is bleacher style seating.

Unless you are literally every other power program in college football.

Right. OSU just won the national championship a bench seats. Imagine that.

We would have the Dome Under The Dome. :D

Built in IPF. No one says they won't come here because of the winter weather. It solves so much.

Maybe someone here can help me. Was a local fan, syracuse didn't have my major so I had to go somewhere else for college and therefore am not that familiar with the actual campus surroundings. If something were to be built on south campus, wouldn't that still be okay for students? Is there much housing on south campus or is it mostly on the main campus near the dome? And south campus is near Manley correct? Lastly, because iv always tailgated near Marshall and didn't go towards Manley much, how long does it take to get from the dome area or the majority of housing for students to south campus?

It would not surprise me if a new roof for the Dome was constructed from the same clear lightweight EFTE material as the new Vikings stadium currently under construction. This material allows for lightweight structural support which is able to handle the snow load.

Reminds me of the scene in one of the Star Trek movies when Scott gives the guy from the past the formula for transparent aluminium!
Makes a retractable roof seem totally unnecessary.
