They have to take a leap in the oline..

All the pieces in the world are great and we had an elite QB this year. But if we could have run a little we probably win 11 games. if we could have stopped the run we win 11 games.

Maybe a better oline and we beat Pitt too and the picks don't even need to be pass plays.

Ive heard folks love playing for him. I also heard there will be departures. However the fact it’s been so quiet thus far is presumably better for us in terms of the guys who we don’t want to leave for money.

This ^^^ Gotta believe some discussions between coaches and certain players are happening (including negotiations on nil with others) thereby putting some younger guys also in a hold position until they see if anyone moves on. Some may also want to see if there's a new QB on the way in the next 10 days or so via portal.

If guys don’t enter the portal by December 28, they have to wait until after Spring practice to find a new team. It’ll happen before the bowl.
 
My guess is that the players looking to leave are going to be mostly backups who don’t have much film out there yet. They know there is a good chance a bunch of key players will opt out of the bowl game and are hoping they get some playing time in the bowl to help sell themselves to other schools.

I can’t see Fran playing players who opt out before the bowl game.
 
If the scholarship limit doesn’t come in on time then there kinda has to be an exodus.

Losing both our starting defensive tackles was a huge detriment. In most seasons it would have been backbreaking.

But if we have those guys against Stanford and BC, I think we win those games. The Pittsburgh interception game was an aberration. They had a great gameplan and made some great plays early, and we weren't able to comeback, even with a team that was very good at doing that.

A great season, nonetheless.

Next year, the depth will be that much better, and Watson and Perry, along with the transfers from this season, will be that much more experienced. The deep depth didn't show much this season, but have excellent pedigree and measurables to be in the rotation this year.

I'm particularly interested too see Nwokocha next year... His combination of size and speed is ridiculous. I don't know why he didn't play this year at all.
 
It's still early.

Prediction no one asked for: I expect ~15 scholarship players will transfer, mostly 2025 Redshirt Seniors who have been bypassed on the depth chart and 2025 Redshirt Freshman who don't have much of a path forward.

(Why no juniors or sophomores you ask? Because there's only like 30 of them combined on the 2025 roster right now, and most of them contributed this year.)
 
If there is going to be a scholarship limit change it would be helpful to all parties involved to have it completed as soon as possible.
 
Don’t know if just one donor essentially paid for McCord or not, but if all or some of that $ is still available to spread around, it should help retaining some guys

Pretty safe to assume that the 105 roster limit will be in place by July whether House is finalized by then or not. Most if not every P4 school closed recruiting classes with that assumption. Only thing holding up sign off right now is 17 states have laws prohibiting the type of review that validates NIL transactions as fee for service at fair market value rather than pure pay for play.
Programs are also putting revenue and cost control models in place to fund the $20.5MM in direct payments to athletes beginning July 1.

Would the 85-scholarship limit still be in place with an overall roster cap at 105? Also, can NIL money cover costs of tuition of players not on scholarship?

Schools are not obligated to fill all 105.
