Wildhack has a huge job ahead of him. Looking at the lax game and based on the football and hoops seasons to date, we are looking at the worst combined performance of the three main sports since the 70s.

Losing to sewmiddle Tennessee st and getting smoked by Wake and BC at home in football. Losing to St Bonaventure at home in hoops. Losing 12 - 2 to ALBANY in the 4th in lax.

Inexcusable

Albany took our spot. They will be at the top for a long time.

we have been a mixed bag at best the last 5 years. i think we are in for more of the same for the next 5 years

I think the post is a wee bit dramatic, though not going to dismiss the data point of worst record since the 90s (though Hoops tilts this metric).

Football is likely on the rise.

Basketball has a great recruiting class coming in and this is a gap year. Replacing Boeheim has always loomed.

Lax. Easy. Desko needs to go. Concrete parity issues aside, the #1 funded program in the country is getting outhustled by programs with cents to our dollar.

The Dome looms large large large, though that transcends the AD position.

Yep
Yep
Yep

and

You do realize that Albany is ranked #4 and ahead of Cuse, right? They’re playing big boy lacrosse these days.

Lax is fine. Not reaching the final four last year was a huge disappointment, but we won the ACC regular season at 4-0 and earned the #2 seed. This year the program was supposed to take a step back, and it looks like they will. Still a lot of season to be played though.

I think the main problem is more competition at the top. SU is still in the elite group, but there are more teams up there now than previously. ND, Duke, Denver used to be nothing and now they pour resources into the sport.

We’re about to potentially make the ncaab tournament and have 4-5 draft picks in bball over the next 2 years

At the end of the day nobody really cares about lacrosse. It has a cult like following. No different than Stanford swimming or water polo.

That said programs have been out hustling the Syracuse lacrosse program from soup to nuts for about 10-12 years now. ( coaches recruiting, etc etc)

Lacrosse is growing. Syracuse isn’t one of the handful of top programs now. During national title runs our backups could be ranked in the top 20. No longer. Kids have many options now.

Or just say lacrosse is water polo and move on

Lax is also suffering from easier admissions standards at certain schools.

Howard? Where exactly is he going? Think about the past Syracuse players that couldn't make the NBA. Now think about Howard. He is greatly improved. But he doesn't have the game for the NBA.
Still projecting on some sites and who knows how itll benefit him if he can play in a less magnified role next year. 38-40% from three and 6-8 assists per game looks pretty great to scouts. I know those seem like gaudy numbers but hes certainly capable in my opinion

Lacrosse used to be the sport of the privileged. Ivies and SU and Hopkins dominated. Now the sport is expanding. There is much more talent out there, but a school like SU is far more expensive than an Albany. And when you’re giving out partial scholarships, it’s easier for a school like Albany to recruit.

Brissett, bazely, battle, howard all projected to go.

Hughes/Carey who knows.
Oh for the love of Pete!!! Come on!!!

We just got a 6 guys on the hoop team will drafted in the next 2 years, post...ON THE FOOTBALL BOARD???!!!!

That’s a 6 month banable offense.

what schools are they that have easier admission standards for lax ?

Agree, having a significant Lax program is nothing but a bonus. It is cult sport, niche sport, similar to some of these whacky "sports" we see every 4 years at the Olympics . If Lax went away i wouldnt blink an eye. Its a pompous clicky suburbia sport that steals athletes from baseball and/or football.

We, as an athletic program are fine. Remember about FB attendance; a few years ago we started to submit actual fannies in seats instead of all tix sold as the attendance #. Most schools dont do this and thus, thus is a big reason we are taking a hit and looking bad. Then, there is hoops. What are you worried about???? We had 21k for a wed night 9 pm tip! What's the problem.? College hoops has an attedamce problem all on its own . You can count on one hand programs that sniff 20k. Kent, etc. 21k for this non descript , boring, and mediocre hoops team is pretty friggin amazing:)
