Outside of Moore and the potential of Freeman there’s no other positives to speak of. Starling or not what we saw tonight was absolutely inexcusable. The defense we have seen under Red for the first 40 or so games of his tenure has been absolutely atrocious. You can lack talent, but there’s zero excuse to not compete defensively.

It was going to be a challenge to have a winning record with JJ. Now getting to 10 wins looks like climbing a mountain.

Well it is official. I have completed the five stages of grief for the SU MBB program. I have passed from denial, to anger, to bargaining, right thru depression, and have arrived at acceptance.

It is not just that SU basketball has become unwatchable, it's like there is nothing there to make one even care anymore.

What a shame that the school sat by and let this crown-jewel of an asset get utterly squandered away.

The dome is going to be absolutely empty this year.

Some big name opponents are coming to the Dome this year. We'll have 3 or 4 pretty big crowds. Casual fans will want to see Duke, North Carolina and Georgetown.

Recruiting those players to play a pressure man system with essentially no help principals is the most confusing thing about all of this.

Yeah, where's the pressure? Where's the use of our depth?

We should be rotating players every 4 minutes to get better defense out of them.

I don't know - Red just gotta keep fiddling with the rotation. Shift the narrative over from absolute disaster to just a plain old disaster.

Anyway, once Red gets the right 4 guys to put out on the court - the ones that can truly complement Carlos' skill set this team could really take off. Until then, we just gotta be patient and trust the process. We'll be better prepared next time as we learn to adjust to JJ's absence.

LGO!!!!!

Even after tonight the silver lining is that the losses have actually been better than the wins.

I don’t know how this team can compete without JJ. He is absolutely vital to any success we hope to have. There’s not enough scoring, ball handling and ability to attack the basket without him. Don’t know where we go from here. I was hoping he and Moore were gonna lock down the backcourt, and then Chance could have a few more weeks to get going and get his sea legs as the third guard, with a little bit of Taylor as a defensive specialist.

There is no system on defense that I can see. The plan seems to be stay in front of your man and that’s it. There are no rotations, no help D plan, no strategy around subs… nothing. This is year two… it’s insane.

Fwiw… I see the same lack of strategy on offense, but there seems to be at least the concept for a plan for some sort of motion there, but we have three players who have legit ACC talent, but one is now hurt, one is a raw freshman and one is apparently not good enough to start.

Got an emailed great ticket deal midday on the morning JJ was injured -not yet public knowledge.
16 tix for $200, pick your game(s) -all games eligible.
Almost pulled the trigger, decided to think it over/talk to family. Glad I waited.
That deal doesn't look quite so wonderful now....

This season is over. Ive accepted it. Destined for a 14-17 record at best. No sense in getting stressed over it. We just are not a good team and the roster that we built isnt any good.

Play the freshmen, get them some run time and hopefully these guys stick around for next season.

I contributed a little bit to NIL, and I feel like my money was lit on fire. Imagine being the guy who was told this year would be good/tourney so he contributed an EXTRA 300k after Lampkin tried to decommit for more money. Can't imagine our big boosters are enjoying watching what looks like bad coaching after spending money on guys they were told would get us over the hump. They will decide how long Red's here.

There doesn't appear to be an #OrangeStandard based on what we have seen through the first quarter of the season. Both Texas and Tennessee brutally exposed how far the program is behind the top 10 programs. TN is arguably a #1 seed program but we just looked lost for much of last night. Thankfully, the shots were falling in the 1st half to keep it respectable (minus the 3-10 FT shooting problem). Add in the way too competitive games with LeMoyne, Colgate, and Youngstown St and the evidence is appearing bleak for another 20 win season.

Red may be in an impossible situation. How many coaches can successfully follow the legendary coach and still achieve success? Minus, Schayer, not many... However, following the legend, who also had a steady decline, combined with the revolutionary shift in the college basketball landscape (NIL, Portal, etc.) is a triple-whammy. The good news is that ADJW has seen a likely glimpse of what success can look like via the football team. I've got to believe there are lessons there that can be applied to the basketball program. Red should be given every opportunity to succeed.

That being said, this team does not appear to be bought into whatever model Red is trying to build. There have been too many post game statements about lack of effort, initiative, heart, and 40% range FT shooting for what should be considered a top-tiered program. Is it coaching, is there poor team chemistry, is the NIL (or lack thereof) a bigger factor? IDK, but hopefully the root problems can be identified and resolved because I'm not fond of the idea that last years 20 wins were more aberration than expectation.
