I think everybody would agree that he did somewhere between a solid to a very good job last season.

This season's roster is screwed up because we blew the portal. Was that Red's fault ? Can anybody point to some other players in the portal that we could have gotten with our available NIL $$$$ that are doing better ?

Carlos and Lampkin are disappointments compared to our expectations. Taylor is a total bust. Only Davis has shown value in terms of our portal grabs.

We didnt pay up for Leffew who we clearly wanted. We let Brown leave. Team would have been entirely different if we had spent competitively. Same happened the year before when we didnt pay up for Jesse. Is that cheapness on Red ? You think Red didnt see that Brown > Lampkin or Leffew > Carlos ???

This season's mess got compounded with the JJ injury.

So what can we lay on Red ?

In terms of player development - maybe a lack of improvement by Bell is on the Coach. On the plus side - very nice progressions from Freeman and JJ (before he was hurt). Moore is coming along nicely - my biggest gripe with Red is I think Moore should be seen more.

On the recruiting front - Red has been a huge upgrade from what we saw of the last ten or so Jimmy years. Five stars in consecutive classes plus 4 stars Kiyan and Moore. I have a good feeling about the Aussie kid, though it is obviously pre-mature to say he will be the PG answer. We are in the mix for others. I think we have clearly had A level recruiting the last two classes. Only issue will be can we keep these kids for more than one season ??

This team cant shoot. A game with zero threes made in this day and age ???? Poor to erratic FT %. Well, that is at least something that just continues our long tradition.

On D - thank goodness we are basically done with the dino-Zone. I see the D gradually improving, but how good can it get with an undersized PG and a slow center ?

Bottom line - you cant win without talent. We lack even mid-ACC pack level talent, especially without JJ.

Now, if somebody thinks they can hang the portal selections on Red, then criticism is fair. If not, give the man a chance to prove or not prove how good a coach he is when we have a level playing field in terms of talent on the Court.

1) I could. it’s not worth pointing it out, it’ll just get poo poo-ed

2) we (the general we) have no idea what our available NIL money is. Only speculation and innuendo which is on purpose so it can be used as excuses.

It seems like anyone being honest is now guilty of "bashing". Some posters want Cuse to be a big time program while also avoiding any of the discussions about issues that are key to that.

This mediocrity (put politely) is the universe confirming that success doesn't work that way.

I'm not sure who could possibly be blamed for the portal selections other than Red. It's not just talent; it's also roster construction. This staff selected a handful of players that can't defend and then seems surprised the defense is this bad. I also can't grasp an offensive or defensive plan at this point.

Confirmed that our budget for this year was $2M-$2.5M range which is middle of the ACC.

And we allegedly gave 1/3 of that to a 10 pt, 7 rb center?
And who knows how much to keep Bell around?

*shrug*
Starting Centers and starting PGs cost the most in the portal. Gotta also compete with schools with much larger budgets like the SEC and B12 as well as non football schools (BE) where most of the budget goes to bball.

Probably unpopular here, but if getting a Center requires us to spend close to a Million per year because we have to compete with SEC and non-football schools, I'd rather spend the money on a high end PG, fill in decent wings, and then get a Big Forward at center who can shoot (with an inexpensive traditional center as backup), and then just play a fast, athletic, transition-style of basketball with 5 guys who can dribble, pass and shoot. Thought that was Red's vision anyway.

How can anyone say last year was very good when we weren't even on the bubble and got destroyed by decent teams?

Rational people were upset that our portal was made up of a bunch of players that were from small programs in small conferences. They also said last year's team was much more talented than this squad. No one thought anything of Carlos until we were lied to just before the season.

That said there wasn't some magical fix coming from the portal. The correct strategy all along should have been 4 HS kids instead of only 2. Portal should be used to fill holes not build a program. Especially if you aren't loaded with a war chest.

The pieces Red brought in do not fit in any way together. Back in the day we compiled a bunch of athletes and made it fit. Red compiled a bunch of bench players.

Red is the one who evaluated these portal kids the last 2 seasons. Who else is to blame?

8 games in 8 terrible coaching performances. Even Texas and TTU the collapse at the under 4 was predictable.

Autry has been treated well by the fanbase. 2 offseasons of across the board support and last year benefit of the doubt on everything that happened.

I don't really think any of us saw him turning into Kenny Payne this season but that is 100% what has happened.

The next guy will be out in 2 years if he stinks as well.

The OP said himself the transfers aren’t giving enough, but won’t criticize Red for making Lampkin a priority? A bit strange.
I dont re-call anybody saying that we shouldn't bother with Lampkin when there was some question about his honoring the NIL agreement. Everybody was on board with making sure we wrapped him up. Is he this slow because he is hurting or because he is just this slow ?

Hindsight criticism is easy.

I admit to having wanted Lampkin, but I never preferred him to Brown.

A poster above said he had some alternate names to Lampkin and Carlos, but declined to name them. How about we get everything front and center if you want to pound on the Coach.

The more I am watching from Red the more I am questioning if last year he did a good job or we just had Mintz. Headcase or not he saved a lot of games.

Yeah I’m wondering the same thing.

There are threads from all offseason about the Lampkin concerns and the PG concerns on the recruiting forums.

Suggesting it's hindsight is ignorance or gaslighting.

I’m not sure why this keeps getting lost on people. Also Maliq is playing center this year. Could have happened here.
That is one thing that really isn't true. Brown did not want to play the 5. He thought he would play the 4 at Duke. He was wrong and is playing small ball 5. Red deserves his share of critique. But not in this case.

I’m more tired of being completely irrelevant.
Hey gmoney 44 you are not irrelevant, I am sure you are a good guy. Now pull yourself up by your bootstraps, look in the mirror and
