Tracking the Bracket Matrix throughout the Regular Season

Some have raised this before, but the total Quad 1 wins # is a concern. What is really interesting is the lack of top quality opponents we have faced this year. Only Boise St and Western kentucy have played less. We have a pretty empty resume.. sort of like Wake Forest last year,

Texas 5-7
Providence 6-5
Alabama 6-3
Houston 3-2
Arkansas 3-6
Louisville 2-6
USC 2-6
Washington 5-3
NC St 4-7
UCLA 2-4
Kansas St 4-6
Virginia Tech 4-5
------
Boise St 0-3
Syracuse 1-4
Marquette 3-9
Ole Miss 1-6
Temple 4-5
St Bonaventure 3-2
Nebraska 0-6
Western Kentucky 1-2
Maryland 1-8
We have quite a few coming up though so our opportunists are ahead of us.

This doesn't help. They can't afford any more slip ups the next 5 games if there is any change for them to be top 30 enetering tourney selection week.

Yup - with this we lost a Q1 win. After last nights games:

Q1 wins = 1
Q2 wins = 5
Q3 wins = 5
Q4 wins = 5

Q1 losses = 4
Q2 losses = 3
Q3 losses = 1
Q4 losses = 0

BC may be an interesting team to watch. On Warren Nolan, they're currently 81 in RPI, they may have a chance to sneak into the top 75 and give us a chance at a quad 1 win (would also give us a quad 2 win, since we already beat them at home)

Stephen Thompson Jr. just hit a 3 at the buzzer for Oregon State to beat Mike Hopkins' Washington team. You can't get more Syracuse than that

And it came in double overtime -- just a fantastic basketball game. Washington was up 13 with about 8 minutes left, and the game appeared over. After a great comeback Oregon State looked like they were going to win in the 1st overtime before back to back terrible calls got Washington back in the game, and then Stevie Jr. missed a pair of free throws with 3 seconds left (where just one would have been enough). So some very nice redemption--and I'll tell you, Jr. is the splitting image of his Dad! (just with a bigger fro...)

Top 4 seeds in each region as it stands today.

Were these 16 team rankings done before yesterday and just announced today. Looks like they made no effort to adjust things for yesterday... Kansas and Oklahoma lost, Michigan St win.

Wouldnt be surprised if they were, they are essentially meaningless.

I love how cbs brought in brad brownell for his opinion on being a 3 seed a month before selection Sunday.. Seriously cbs.

As everything stands now, we have 6 games left, 4 of which are Quad 1 games and 3 games vs. teams in the 10 RPI.

If we don't get in we have no one to blame but ourselves. Plenty of opportunities to get the wins we need to strengthen our resume.

We need to win 3 of last 6. Going to be hard to do. Even BC is tough at home this year beating upper echelon teams.

Final Tally for the Weekend

Bubble Team went 13-10. However, the 13 wins lacked in quality
2 - Quad 1 (Virginia Tech, Alabama)
1 - Quad 2 (Missouri)
10 - Quad 3 + Quad 4

Of the 10 Losses,
2 - Quad 3 (Boise St, Washington)
1 - Quad 4 (Depaul)

Overall if you your Q1+Q2 wins = Q3+Q4 losses, that is not a positive thing.

Teams Right around the bubble line) (last 6 in / first 4), went 2-8. Syracuse had one of the wins, but the difficulty was higher for most others. But Boise St and Washington loss to porous teams.

Conclusion - Good for us. We still need wins.

What I am looking out for this week:

NC St at Syracuse - We need to win games, and this is a key one.

Nevada at Boise St - Boise St does not get many chances to get a Quad One win at home. They have a great record, but not much quality. It will really help us if they lose this.

Temple at Wichita St - They shouldn't win this, but if Temple does they could jump in.

Maryland vs Nebraska - See Next Post

NEBRASKA

They are currently 10-4 in the Big 10. They can quite conceivably go 14-4, as there remaining schedule is 3 home games against modest teams (Maryland, Indiana, and Penn St) and a road game against Illinois.

They would be 14-4 in the Big Ten, yet
0-6 in Quad 1.
4-2 in Quad 2
(So 4-8 in quality games ... not good)
Their marquee win would be beating 8/9 seed Michigan at home.
They only play Ohio St, Purdue, and Michigan St once... and they lost to each one.
Accomplished nothing out of conference.
RPI would be #44.

What does the committee do? I would love to see B10 country whine.

yeah they could be the single most beguiling team for the committee this year

and Temple, too (for virtually opposite reasons)
