Uconn to the B12 NOT looking likely

The reason no one is trying to leave is that they don't have anyone that anyone wants. If they did, they already would have left.
Generally speaking I agree. That being said the 4 new schools, BYU, and Kansas I could see leaving for either the B18 or SEC. Heck even the ACC should there not be much TV money in 2030.

I would love Kansas. But I love hoop

That is a problem of course, but the majority of that deficit is due to the football program which runs a $14 million annual deficit. I may be wrong but i dont think many UCONN fans care about football, which has never been good outside of 1 year over a decade ago. The university will obviously take any deal they can to get them in the P5, but the real "cost" to the fans might be greater than trying to save a floundering football program. JMO

Football is driving the conference realignment bus - if you don’t have it, eventually you will be left on the curb. That is the reason UConn has continued to fund a team with debt - because they needed to in order to have any hope of being at the big boy table when the music stops. The problem is even if they go to a conference with more money, they need it now to pay down debt - and as important as NIL is, schools still need to have a bare minimum of facilities and resources to attract football recruits - and UConn doesn’t have that and will never be able to afford it.

I see many people have their panties in a bunch - but it’s partly driven by a total misread of the situation. This is a pairing of a desperate conference with a desperate school which is irrelevant in the big picture and impacts us in absolutely no relevant way.

I don’t care. At all.

The idea that UConn Football won't immediately get better recruits if they join the Big 12 is hilarious

Yeah, they will become a power. but you are right. The will get better recruits than they get now. How could they not? The idea that it won't hurt their basketball program is what is hilarious.

The Big 12 will be far and away the best hoops league if they add them. It won’t be like them going back to the AAC to play Tulsa and Tulane.

No one cares about hoop. If they did, UConn would be in a major league right now.
I was replying to your post that a move to the best hoops conference would hurt their basketball. Half the Big East is Midwest schools now anyway. Playing Kansas, Arizona and Baylor etc shouldn’t be a problem for recruiting

Not that you were saying it but almost zero recruits today consider conference when deciding schools. In fact most don’t even know what conferences the schools play in. It’s $$$, opportunity and relationships with coaches. The brands are almost irrelevant
NIL makes parental travel easier, financially, and at D1 level, there will be streaming of away games, so no games will be missed

UCONN going to the Big 12 will hurt their basketball recruiting. They were doing nothing until they went back to the Big East. We lost Jackson because of it.
There are 2-3 reasons why we “lost” Jackson.
I don’t think UConn’s recruiting would really take a tumble. They recruit all over the country and the globe.

They won two titles in a row with a coach that turned the Lakers down. He picks who he wants to play there.
Said coach was able to recruit to the BE, thus the BET at MSG. It's a big, big deal.

As long as they have Hurley, nothing will hurt their hoops program. We weren’t hurt by going to the acc, we were hurt by letting Boeheim stay as long as he did. The program got stale and he didn’t grind like Hurley types.

we will see

They would be in a conference that no one‘s trying to leave. That gives them much more stability than we would have.
Because the marquis teams in the B12 have already left? And the ACC’s disillusioned step child hasn’t yet and has no viable path to until the B12 media deal is essentially expired?

The ACC isn’t adding anyone from the Big 12. It will be the other way around
And the logic and rationale behind that is???

Teams want to make less money?

Teams want to play in a conference with no marquis programs?

This doomsday scenario is straight from bizarro world.

Yeah I don’t think people realize SMU have the Dallas market for themselves more or less. Couple that with some of the best and deepest nil trunks and donors in the game and boom.
Ya they have the Dallas market all to themselves after UT, TA&M, Baylor and Oklahoma.

and the Cowboys. No one watches nor cares about the Cowboys in Dallas.
(not every town is a "college" town)

Know what’s a bigger deal? Players getting revenue share. This happens with the big 12 not the big east. There is a scenario where schools player budget is higher than the big east’s annual media deal. The big east is important, and was even more so when Jackson was being recruited, but rev share and NIL are way more important.
