UNC Post Game

I’ve said this before but that’s what this is so amazing. Worst season in 5 decades and we are a pretty good rebounding team!
tell me we outrebound UNC and you'd think we'd win, but not with this atrocious team

dasher , following up on your response to owing Red 9 mil if we want him gone this year, why did we give Red anything other than a minimum contract that’s easy to get out of given that he has no HC experience? Was he really in that high of demand?
I keep asking myself this. And some on here saying the BOT knows how to run the school. Im not an Athletic Director but this has to be up there with one of the dumbest decisions in Syracuse athletics history.

And no, he was not in demand outside of Syracuse at all.

Im looking at his resume, he wasnt even a head coach at the high school level. He was an assistant at 2 HSs before getting a job at Vtech for a year and then to SU.

The roster management / talent evaluation to me is my biggest concern with the staff.

It’s so bad this year, that it’s hard to tell how bad the coaching is. Watching last year’s team, I think most of us thought the game day decisions/ rotations made sense. Getting 20 wins was a step forward.

I think this roster is so botched, it’s almost unfixable from a coaching perspective. This is not to excuse the game day coaching.

There’s been a massive over reliance on Carlos, who simply isn’t ACC caliber. It’s maddening to watch as a fan.

Perhaps Naheem was hurt earlier in the season, but the DNP’s didn’t make sense.

Why didnt Cuffe come in for Carlos and Taylor for Bell in that game end sequence?

The problem to me is that the bench is too long. Players don’t know their role, so a guy like Cuffe feels empowered to chuck that late three.

Shorten the bench. Define who your scorers are, and feed them until they fail. Deal harshly with those who do things outside of the game plan. There is not enough structure.

It strikes me the Red has spent all season hoping players stepped up and a starting 5 revealed itself.

It’s never happened. And he hasn’t done nearly enough to define an 8 man rotation and let it gel.

The hockey line change in the first half was so strange.

JB’s system worked. His game day coaching was always top notch. His recruiting fell off the planet toward the end.

Plus the big elephant in the room is what top-level program-changing talent is going to want to come to a bottom-tier ACC team with a coach who hasn't shown much if anything at all? You can have all the money in the world but if the top talent wants to go play for the top programs or the top coaches and we have neither we are going to be left getting talent like Eddie who is talented but has major flaws.
Right and our brand has significantly dropped with 4 straight missed NCAAs

Its not 2012 anymore and that was now a long time ago

The more and more losing we do the harder and harder it is going to be to bring top-level talent in via the portal.

Agreed. The subs don’t make sense a lot of the time because in some cases it’s just… who the hell you grabbing?

Donnie getting hurt was big. We still aren’t making the tournament but he was pretty clearly one of the top 3 players on the team and only getting better.

Meh. Players are going to chase dead presidents. If any lesson has been learned in this new world, it’s that teams that rely on brand and history as a recruiting tool (see UNC), are losing players to non traditional powers that are paying big bucks (insert your token SEC team here).

Freaking Rutgers has two lottery picks, and they’re Rutgers!!!

The lord and savior Hodgson lost at home tonight and is now in a four way tie for first place. He hasn’t won a regular season or tournament conference championship and hasn’t coach in NCAA tournament game. Our fan base has to pump the breaks on Hodgson

He has more wins and a better record than Red :-/

This is his second season as head coach. Exactly how many regular season or conference championships are you expecting? The year before Hodgson took over, Arkansas State's winning percentage was .394. Last season when he took over their winning percentage was .541. This season its .731. And we're not exactly talking about a recruiting hotbed.

Those are Freshman and they(Rutgers) are not good. If that is what we are looking to be that is fine it will be Red's last year. If we want to be UNC that is great that is what I see as our ceiling is under Red and that is also fine next year will be our his last year.

The level of players we actually need to bring in to overcome the problems with the program will not come here just for the money. They want to come to programs that wins and coaches and programs that put players in the NBA? It has been a like decade since we have had someone drafted. Our program and brand are on life support and our coach doesn't have the "juice" to bring it back to life.

Over the last 4 games he has averaged 28 minutes per game, while shooting a combined 5-23 from the field! Points scored in those games are 3,6,3 and 3
And he didn’t deserve 28 minutes in those games either

JJ can’t shoot or play d. He’s not a starting level player on a good team. Judah was clearly better.
Agreed. But on this year's team it's him and Eddie. That's all we've got.

I thought today that last year they lost Chance early, then Naheem and then Benny dismissed, Maliq had to be an undersized 5, the Fs with Bell and Taylor were awful, yet they won 19/20, Red did allright.

Not great because they had an opportunity at Clemson and got outphysicaled and then the ACCT game against NCST they got clowned and had a break down, so those were red flags. They have relegated McCloud and Bell to reserve status, usually when that happens you get better, its so odd.

I heard Copeland wanted the PG role for this year but was told no guarantees. Then heard he never went to class, I wonder how hard the staff tried to monitor his attendance to ensure academic standing.

Now Copeland was out of control in that loss to NCST with the season on the line but would this team be better off with him playing PG minutes? Like is his good/bad better than JC, i guess the ceiling and potential would be higher.

I remember in 2008 which was our worst team in about 5 or 6 years was also our best defensive rebounding team between 1997 and 2018. Just a totally random thing but kinda funny.

Great take. Reds trying to please everyone. His team is JJ Lampkin.
JJ never comes out. Lampkin comes out and McLeod gets 10 to 15 a game depending on match ups.
Davis and Petar play based on match ups. Taylor Plays significantly more minutes .
JJ
Choppa
Taylor
Davis
Lampkin. Play 80% yes Choppa. He's better than either cuffe or Carlos and he can shoot.
Other than Petar and McLeod I wouldn't play anyone including Bell.

Copeland would destroy Carlos or Cuffe. He's 10x better on his worst day.
