I’ve never seen a player get rejected as much as Cuffe. He goes to the basket and half the time he gets blocked. He plays good defense but he stood and watched when Cadeaux made that dagger layup. He was right there and offered no help. He must have learned that at Kansas. Then to make matters worse, he chucked up a contested three that wasn’t even close. He had no idea of time and score.

I know he’s a freshman, but Choppa has really fallen off a cliff. He had some really great games earlier in the season. 24 points vs. Tennessee, 19 vs. Cornell, 16 vs. Maryland.

In 9 of our last 15 games he has not scored a single point.

The staff understandably does not like his defense. But at this point in the season, he is one of the few guys who could potentially be here for the rebuild next year. Minutes going to cuffe and Carlos are wasted. We should try to see what this kid has the rest of the year, so we know how much effort should be made to retain him. What we do know is that none of the other guards except for JJ are capable of scoring like Choppa did in the games you referred to.

I do think the way he has been used is incomprehensible and has led to his decline. The kid is good enough to start, but then never sees the floor again? Help me understand how that makes sense.

He should be blamed but it's been talked about to death we lost our first choice in Leffew, just money. You don't start your season telling the outside world we couldn't get the guy so we got our far less talented backup guy.

If anyone wonders for even a second whether Red is "the guy" to be leading this team, just listen to his analysis in the post game presser. It's all over the damn place. It's really bad. When you listen to him, then watch the team lose games like against Miami, it makes perfect sense.

Autry desperately needs a Newhouse communication class or 5. He is trying to put out too many fires on the court at once and it shows he doesn't know which to prioritize. After the games you can hear in his voice he struggles to explain with the original purpose of his substitutions and plays because it just creates another set of problems on the other end of the court. We don't have any 2 way players, if only we could go offense / defense for whole games.

He needed to play primarily zone this year. After our first few games against very weak competition, it was brutally apparent that the team wasn't going to be able to play man to man D. If we had played more zone, it would have provided us with some help. McCleod should have been playing 15 minutes a game from the jump. Zone would have helped some, not a ton but it would have provided a much better chance at wins that man at which we are one of the worst teams in the country.

This wasn’t to the media though unless you count “friends of the program” as media. Not sure why you would lie to them. You don’t have to tell them he sucks, but you also don’t have to lie to him and say he’s great. Which suggests to me Red actually thought Carlos was that good

Our lack of 3 point shooting is killing us. I thought the guys played well, only losing by 6. NC hit 13 3 pointers and we hit 4. If we hit 3 more we win. This is keeping us from closing games. Our foul shooting has improved.

Can anyone give me one reason why this isn't coaching or talent evaluation? We started the season in the top 70 in all metric sites based on talent. We are currently the 140th and fourth-worst P4 team, 15th-ranked ACC offense, and 13th-ranked ACC defense. Now, I understand the NIL isn't top-tier, but we sure as hell aren't fourth last in funding. No identity, no development, no talent evaluation, continued mistakes. The lack of GM this year just shows how clueless Autry is at roster-building and further proves he should not be the coach of Syracuse.

I can't think of 1 reason to be excited for a Red-coached team next year. By all accounts, he will have more resources and a GM in place. A LOT of pressure is being put on Alex Kline and I think Red is going to waste the resources provided next year and Kiyans first year of 2. Bite the bullet and pay the buyout now, this is not a serious program to keep a coach who went 12-19.

There is not a single player on the team who is fully competent at both offense and defense.

82 points is enough to win but you can’t give up 88 and expect to win. Defensive skills are lacking and that is not Red’s fault except for not seeing it before recruiting. AAU teams don’t do these kids any favors in that they don’t really learn defensive skills there. It is all offense. By the time they are in college, players should know defensive skills including boxing out and positioning for rebounds.

Uhh, that is his fault for not seeing it and continuing to recruit said player or not being able to instill it. He's paid millions.

I think you agree with much of what I said. I mentioned that HS coaches teach defense and also that they should know how to defend before they get to college. But I am just not sure Red can fix a player who can’t move his feet into good defensive position.

I mean, there is literally a drill for that.

Look for all the rebounds Eddie gets he's a layup drill for other teams on defense.

The responsible thing IMO would have been a 4 year $11M contract. Red was an extremely risky hire. Giving him a 5 year contract makes no sense.

We have to be able to concoct some stuff like UConn did with Ollie. Do it before the season ends so we can be ready to finalize the hire ASAP. Let Griff coach a couple games.

Not saying he is our lord and savior. But let’s look at the facts. He’s got a squad with a top 100 net and Ken Pom full of 3 stars right now. With a top 40 high school recruiting class on the way next season at Arkansas State! It’s not crazy, seems rather likely that this guy in the next few seasons is known as a select few of relevant up and coming top head coaches in College Basketball with northeast connections. When you look at his profile and our current situation it’s almost like a you can’t make this up opportunity for us.

It’s why I’m so supportive of him getting fired this year. If you don’t feel he’s the guy to bring back Syracuse to the standard we all expect then you have to move on from him. This program isn’t some charity case where he gets to learn how to be a head coach and we give him 4+ years to try to figure it out. That’s what low major D1 programs are for.

You would lie to them cuz he overpaid for Eddie and then couldn't get his first choice at the PG. He was just trying to smooth over the mess, and yes it was of his own creation. Why do you think there's a GM now? So Autry has some backup for talent evaluation and it's not just on his shoulders to answer to donors that basically saw their money lit on fire this year. and yes I'm one of those very small donors.
