UNLV QB refuses to play rest of season

Just another step in the deterioration of the college football (but likely to leak into BB soon). One wonders how many more steps down are left to go.

Should be interesting when it becomes obvious that a significant number of these well paid athletes are not attending classes, and in fact, are not really students.

And then, is there a counter movement of "haves" that front load it in order to assure they are getting the best players locked in? I guess we'll see.

Based on what the WV collective guy said about the deal for Jesse Edwards, paraphrasing... "the numbers on the NIL deal for him being bandied about aren't correct... in fact, we'll be sitting down shortly to discuss with his reps, firm up the numbers, and draw up the paperwork to make it official."

i.e. Edwards left on a verbal offer from the WV collective and it wasn't in stone / contracted yet.

Whether he got what was promised is anyone's guess.

There’s a lot of schools - with UNLV being one of them - that tell kids they won’t create a written deal until the kid is on campus. The cynic in me thinks that’s entirely intentional, because they can make promises they have no intention of keeping. I was listening to an agent on radio this morning saying it’s unfair his agent is getting dragged, because kids getting screwed is pretty common - it’s just this time the player fought back.

It would be ideal if everyone was negotiating and creating written contracts prior to a kid signing a letter of intent - but why would schools that refuse to create a written agreement before a kid is on campus - even though that is allowed - suddenly see the light and start doing what they’ve refused to do up until this point?

Y'know, every kid I knew rode his bike without a helmet. I don't remember any of my friends getting a head injury, or honestly anything serious from a bike accident, except maybe one kid with a broken arm from a fall. Of course, there were far fewer cars on the street, and people didn't drive so aggressively back then, or have these giant trucks tearing down residential streets.

Very few things terrify me more than riding a push bike on a street with cars. I use the sidewalk whenever possible. Helmets won’t do much if an SUV hits you.

I do not wear a helmet cycling its a leisurely activity meant to get a tan. People are psychotic about helmets skiing these days if you go to the alps it’s 99% helmets here 95%. If you ski on a 55 degree sunny spring day 90% of the mountain has their winter shell on and full helmet and goggles.

I don’t really mind them it’s more goggles I hate I’m a sunglasses only skier.

I have several straight guy friends super into the WNBA. One has floor seat seasons for the Liberty. I went to a game for the first time this summer, it was a lot of fun.

1.8m viewers for the Fever/Sun playoff game Sunday while NFL was on at the same time was pretty impressive. WNBA is definitely coming into its own. The Clarke effect is obviously a nice bump, but it was doing better before her.

The Super Bowl is basically the only sporting event that every other sport plans around in terms of not competing with it. With all due respect to the clash of levithians that is Syracuse at UNLV, I don't think our game is registering in any other sport's scheduling plans.

They can’t include performance agreements in the contracts that are written right now. I know SU doesn’t allow that because they’re following the rules. Any that exist are definitely verbal promises.
