This is the reason retaining Daoust wasn't even considered?
Is he not in Daoust's league? I don't know just asking

From a recruiting standpoint, tough to argue. Apparently he's very adept at that. As a DL Coach, without knowing him, I have a hard time fathoming that he's in the same ball park. Daoust was ready to take the next step. This guy looks like he's just developing as a position coach. Is he not in Daoust's league? I don't know just asking

Reynolds may turn out to be a great hire. But, I just don't understand, outside of maybe it being divisive to the players, why you wouldn't even consider retaining Daoust to bring in this guy. It certainly reads like a step back from my vantage point. Especially when I'd imagine you could've retained Daoust, at least for a year anyway.

I think if Shafer had a position to offer it would be a no brainer, but, I don't think that's the case, at least this season. Very loyal, yes, but you could've had him this year.I thought Daoust was in the he won't stay at Syracuse unless shafer was his boss camp, but could not be correct but thought people were saying here. I'd rather have an inexperienced staffer who can recruit better athletes, than an experienced staffer who spends all his time trying to make inferior athletes more effective. From a recruiting standpoint, tough to argue. What about an experienced staffer that can recruit as well?I'd rather have an inexperienced staffer who can recruit better athletes, than an experienced staffer who spends all his time trying to make inferior athletes more effective.
If you fire the Head Coach I believe you need to get rid of the whole coaching staff. Might lose some good guys but new ideas, new leadership, no friction.
Agreed. I'll also point out that Babers retained some assistants at Eastern Illinois when he came on and at Bowling Green when he came on - with some of those guys still with him at Syracuse. Clearly, he's not adverse to the concept of retaining staff when he steps into the head coach gig somewhere, provided he thinks they are a good fit. He seems to be a guy with a particular eye for what he wants. I think we need to give him the benefit of the doubt that if he decided to not retain any of Shafer's assistants, it is for particular and thought out reasons. As Cusian said, he's making his own bed with these hires. He has a track record of success and deserves the benefit of the doubt until evidence of poor staff decision making starts manifesting on the field.I think Daoust is exceptional. But you hire a new HC you believe in and you go all in. He makes his bed.
But the previous coach wasn't fired at Bowling Green (and not sure on EIU), so this is a completely different situation.Agreed. He didn't leave for Pitt because he was a "Shafer guy" ... He's pretty loyal. I wonder if he'd stay on as DL. Maybe he'd stay with a promotion? If he fit with Babers?

Out of the blue he took Amir Ealey out of PA. Didnt think we had a chance with him. Heard he was a slient Maryland commit when Daoust stoled him.Daoust was a big selling point for Clark choosing SU over Florida I believe. I certainly wouldn't call Steven an inferior athlete by any means.
that a very fair, and salient, point. For what it's worth, the previous coach at EIU (Bob Spoo) retired after a 2-9 season. But the previous coach wasn't fired at Bowling Green (and not sure on EIU), so this is a completely different situation.
