Wasnt Stadium info supposed to come out this week?

Shhh... that's because the other floors below ground are very secret. That's where the experiments with the collider are occurring.

The basic building blocks of Matter and a winning Football program are being discovered as we speak.:)

For those in the know - any chance the stadium project will be partly subsidized by the state through one of the various "revitalization" initiatives going around? I know SU is private but a case can be made that this institution is the biggest economic engine in the region.

YES...

My only question is what is housed in that end? It is possible to make old and new "match".
In fact you are not supposed to make them match. Any addition to a historic building should be of a material/color/language that meshes with the existing, but it should be discernible as new. It should not try to match. Think of the addition to Sims hall. For the record, what was done to Hall of Languages should never be spoken of again. That is on par with Penn Station/MSG.

You are always educating me.;)

So if not match they could have at least "blended" the look better...as the brick choice certainly did not mesh.

Ok, this absolutely needs to stay here...

My sources tell me that the one guy who know the status of the Dome...likes getting caught in the rain, is not much into health food, but IS into champagne. Stealthy, but read between the lines.

OK, a bit cheesy maybe, but imagine a large glass shed roof between the two buildings open at each end (or at least visually open). It could be like a train shed where the "express" comes in. What if the OnTrak was brought up to it for game days? Pie in the sky, but it could be fun.

I really like this "melding"... what firm did this?

It's not on there. A couple other items that have a direct effect on the west side of campus are part of the proposal, though.

I'm guessing that's related to the proposed med school?

Since you've seen the complete proposal - what are your thoughts? Is it a smart pitch or scattered to the winds?

Somewhere in the middle of those two. I'll give it this - despite the difficulty of catering to a ton of different constituencies in a geographically diverse region, it's well-tailored to the state's requirements.

The firm is Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. They are a Pennsylvania based firm with two locations (main office in Scranton I think). Very good firm. The building got very mixed reactions. I like it.

Dome renovation plans to be announced by year’s end
Basketball, Football, Orange Watch

With a timeline approaching for a new Carrier Dome roof, other improvements will also be announced in the near future

Item: According to university sources, details are in place to present to SU’s Board of Trustees and other top leadership a proposal to replace the Dome roof and renovate the building’s interior, including more segregated club/box seating and utilizing newly constructed space east of the Dome to relieve current congestion.

Although final plans to be presented are still being tweaked and public details have been limited, expect the university board at its regularly scheduled meeting next month to receive a more in depth look and renderings that will illustrate Dome improvement plans commencing as soon as next summer.

It will be done piecemeal, continuing during the summers of 2017 and 2018 with a goal to be completed by the start of the ’18 football season, without disrupting any of the big three sports of football, basketball, and lacrosse, along with previously scheduled events occurring between the September-May academic calendar.

With the clock ticking down to a couple of years for replacing the current air-supported, Teflon roof which has defined the Syracuse skyline since the original was inflated in the summer of 1980, the decision has been made on a more permanent cover atop the building.

The necessary structural additions to support the new roof, along with maximizing revenue and improving fan comfort by adding more box seating that will be aligned for basketball games, and moving some operational functions that take up much needed Dome interior space, including those of concessions and catering, by utilizing a new building to be constructed where Archbold Gym currently sits on the east side of the Dome.

No details on costs or funding sources have been provided, but what is clear is that the immediate future of showcasing the school’s biggest entertainment events will be in an updated facility that remains adjacent to the Quad and close to the majority of ‘Cuse students, as opposed to a brand new building built off campus.

I thought Archbold was a protected building and couldn't be changed? Isn't it registered as a Nationally Historic Landmark?

I sent Wes an email to see if he can clarify with Bierman.

Yea im curious..if it IS changeable that would change my whole opinion on having to move the stadium to the Inner Harbor. There is enough space around The Dome to expand the concourse outward on the north/south sides as well as the east/west.

Only the exterior of the original north wing is protected. The rest has been altered many times over.

I would assume this means flanagan will have to be repurposed as the fitness center? Right now Archbold holds most of the fitness equipment. I wonder if this means they build a new fitness center for students/faculty as well.

This will be necessary (though it will probably be built farther north, or possibly incorporated into the Women's Building).

Historic buildings can be altered. You can't force a building to sit vacant if it no longer serves a useful purpose. Repurposing a building helps justify keeping it. That said, it's not as easy, there are a lot more regulatory hoops to jump through, and often the register is very specific about what qualifies the building for that status (it ain't just cause it's old, it has to prove some sort of architectural or engineering importance or uniqueness. It could even be just that it is an excellent example of a type, or that it is part of the original quad, which may be registered [its not]).
The Women's building still hosts volleyball I believe. Not sure how you do major work there, and I don't think it's big enough even with the field for a campus health and fitness center the way they are done these days (we do a lot). That said, we need a new one of those too. Not sure where the money will come from.

Aren't they supposed to start a $2 Billion capital fundraising campaign in 2016?

Heard that rumor too. Not sure how long that will take, but I'd be surprised if anyone assumes less than 3 years, and that's optimistic in my mind. I think the last one for the endowment was not to raise $1 Billion, but to get us to $1 Billion. Might be off on that, but that's what I remember. Might be easier to find donors if the projects for the funding are identified, but then you run the risk of donors cherry picking the "good" projects and the less glamorous, but equally important other ones go underfunded or unfunded.

The original building is a lovely old building. Just amazing how SU didn't seem to make any effort at aesthetically blending in the old with the new when the addition was constructed. It could have been done easily.
True. I have always known Archbold Gym as an ugly eyesore. Whoever was involved in 'rebuilding it' really botched things.
