If you see this as a means to an end, which is athletic success, more power to you. But I’d have stopped following SU sports if he became more involved. He repulses me.
Yeah get that, really do, that’s actually why we love u bro!

Yeah, until we see them doing something similar for an SEC school, and no I don’t have an example, I’m going to reserve further judgment on what the ncaa will or won’t allow
Well, we've seen the NCAAs fairness doctrine play out multiple times over the years. How they treat the SEC (and other select schools) is not an indicator of how they would treat SU.

Whoa.. that would flip the portal on its head if it passed...
The nice thing about it if it passes is the 3 years before a transfer.
At least the athlete will get 3 years of some type of education.
The way things are now some of these atheletes will be lucky if they get any meaningful education.

That proposed legislation has nothing to do with what is best for the athletes. It's all about control over the athletes.
Frankly, any legislation proposed by Tuberville should be tabled until he stops blocking military appointments for completely unrelated reasons.

If really rich people only have to pay fines when they break the law, then the law doesn't apply to them.

$400k for pollution lawlessness is a travesty.

It's significantly cheaper to pay the fine annually than to pay to upgrade the facility to actually follow the laws designed to protect us.

In order to attempt a compromise, there needs to be a discussion. There was no discussion. So, it’s pure speculation to say there could be no compromise.
Wildhack most certainly had conversations with him.

There was also discussion that AW was rubbing other boosters the wrong way.

It's no accident we are in better shape with NIL since he left.

And I know we disagree here, but his influence was overblown.

Yes, he provided NIL to players, but it wasn't like we were bringing in top talent with him.

Tuberville is doing this for his SEC buddies who are mad that they have 4 and 5 stars that don't want to sit the bench for a couple years behind veterans.

More regulation around NIL combined w transfer rule *sounds* great. But SEC boosters want a) more control over “their” players b) a reason to go back to dropping bags the old school way (ie under the table)

NIL + transfer portal is a headache for the traditionally elite programs, IMO

This is the big secret that the university was worried about, that people inferred but wouldn’t say?! The unspoken reason to send A billionaire willing to spend millions to support your program packing?!

GMAFB
Thats not it

You are correct, sir. On the surface, it does sound great.

However, if the good ol' boys of the SEC are behind it, I immediately distrust the whole thing.

The environmental stuff doesn't factor in.

The guy is a nightmare beyond "typical rich guy stuff", and all of the evidence is out there if you want to see it.

Having deep pockets isn't a guaranteed translation to on-field success (see the examples I cited in my previous post), especially when it comes with strong ties to the donor's constant self-promotion in ways that go well beyond putting your name on a building.

How so ? and what evidence? I have some friends who hang with this guy and I've never heard anything bad. Too me typical rich guy stuff is boats and ho's. Beyond that was he one of Epstein's cronies?

Good lord. It’s a sanction against a business. It’s an environmental regulation, not a criminal statute.

The Weitsman era wasn’t particularly successful I don’t mind it’s over. Face of the program and constant exposure to out the door is a little odd mind you. 12 months ago any anti AW comments on this board would be attacked passionately now it’s the opposite.

What more evidence do you need that everything he did relating to Syracuse Athletics was just to draw attention to himself?

spill it
Both RF and Bayside have told you what the issue is in this thread and you keep poo pooing it, which is fine. Nothing is going to change your mind obviously.

AW is all about risk. Some don’t care and want the competitive advantage of having a super booster, others have less risk and don’t want to get in trouble. I get both arguments however I don’t think we lost much by AW taking his ball and going home. Just my opinion

Adam Weitsman is a polarizing figure on this message board. He definitely likes the attention that he got from bringing celebrities to games. There is no denying that. The debate is whether he brought anything to recruiting with what he did and how he did it, and whether it was worth the risk of sanctions. It is difficult to assess. Our recruiting certainly wasn’t all that great the past few years and AW only started his NIL attempts for about a year, I believe. So, it’s difficult to judge what affect he would have on recruiting with a newly energized staff and whether he would modify his approach if asked to.

He tried jumpstarting a clinically dead program, with his good friend's permission.

To say you would stop following SU's sports is a bit heavy handed. He was doing many of the same things as a lot of the good old boys at many successful universities.

Wake up to 2023. Not all money in college sports is 99.4% pure. Not that it ever was. It's just not $50 bills in Xmas cards anymore.
