What I'm hearing

What I think most here want above else, and what this staff evidently lack, is persona and fire. What the program needs is an influx of energy to get 30k+ on their feet, to get students invested, to get the crowd back.

The energy of the Dome has declined in general (performance related aside). What appeals to so many with a coach like an Oats is their desire to win, while getting the fans invested and rooting FOR the coach, not against, as you'll find now.

You will not find that on the current SU staff.

You've said that you think JW hasn't made up his mind yet.

So then is it helpful for Boeheim to be talking about "Ironclad Succession Plans" - when it's not his decision? If I was his boss, I certainly wouldn't appreciate all these asides he throws out there for the media; who is going to be back next year, who is ready to play or not, when he's going to retire, etc.

It's just not helpful. He needs a muzzle for chrissakes.
omg, fer real, the man needs to stop talking and making everything worse in an already bad season. I’m SURE JW would like to muzzle him or wring his neck or both.

Hop and Red made that happen.
Hop and Red, like Hop and Murph, were a good recruiting duo. Red’s a good recruiter. The problem is that we lost recruiting momentum with the sanctions and the uncertainty over JB’s shifting retirement timeline and when Hop would take over. And once you lose recruiting momentum, most of the experts will tell you it’s hard to get it back. But JB does himself and the program no help in that regard and makes self-inflicted wounds (throwing kids under the bus in pressers, not traveling nearly enough to recruit, backing off of complicated recruitments when he doesn’t want to deal with nonsense, making his kids the focus of the team) and also he just has natural limitations with his age and ability to relate to players. Plus he didn’t take full advantage of the portal last season.

I don’t remember him saying “succession” plan. That’s a word others have inserted.

Couldn't agree more with all of this.

Here are the words. "The Plan" is who will be hired as the coach to replace him.
They're not talking about Dinner Plans. "Replace" = "Next Up" = "Not Him."

@CuseSportsTalk_

"We have a plan in place, a good plan, an ironclad plan." Jim Boeheim says despite him not making the decision as to who replaces him, Syracuse University is in no way winging it.

This is what I heard last night from my connection (long chat about the AAU scene, college bball in general and we went into cuse full circle). This info is as of 3.4.2022 and things can change (please don't go after my throat if one or two of these things change).

Roster next year-
Apparently, we are in the driver's seat with Mintz right now. It's going to be between us and Wake Forest for him with NC state and Depaul having guard commits here recently. Jimmy has told him about a starting role and he would be along side JG3 for the starting backcourt. If he comes, we would run 3 guards with Copeland redshirting/sitting all year. The coaches will have to get his buy-in with this because his first year was labeled as spot minutes/back up mins and he won't get that with a Mintz commit.
Cole is 50/50 to stay (Jimmy even mentioned it). JB will ask him to stay one more year and put together some solid tape to possibly get drafted ala Hughes. He will be the featured player on the roster and gives JB someone he trusts. With this AND if Benny stays, we won't tap into the transfer market for a forward. Benny leaves, we will.
Frank is 50/50 as well. According to my connection, the game is still moving a lil too fast for him but he knows he could start at various places. He knows he would get 20 minutes again next year with Jesse back so he's weighing his options to go or not. Might do the JBA way and put his name in to get feedback/interest from other schools and decide to come back. If he goes, we will get a center/forward transfer because Peter is not ready yet.
JBA, Buddy, Jimmy Jr gone obviously.

Coaches Retirement/His interview the other day-
Apparently, coach was feeling the heat/pressure to speak up about the so called "plan" from booster/fans/JW. My connection kept harping on the term "succession plan" always means "in house" . He said watch the smaller school openings and if one of the assistants bolt for it, Hop is most likely to get let go at UW and he could slide back home for a year than take over. He said that's all a big if but could happen. Likelihood it's Red for the takeover and he will be the lead recruiter for the 2023 cycle. Still hasn't ruled out JB calling it in the summer time, exact quote " I get he promised these income recruits he was going to coach them but with both sons leaving, why?". JW is hearing all the chatter and criticism and knows something needs to happen soon. JB has and will have input in the hire but not full.

Might be new news or not but just wanted to share.
I’ve heard a little bit different version than this for sure

I'd be all in for Enfield. Would love nothing more than another FGCU-like dunk fest vs Georgetown! That'd be so much fun!!
You don't like blowing double digit leads to winless in conference teams?

New York No GIF by HULU

And he would continue the recent tradition of the Head Mens BB coach having a smoking hot wife.
I was gonna say that I am unsure the Maxim cover girl would opt for CNY.

Enfield would restore our ability to run a fast break and finish dramatically. Which we haven't seen in years.

Jim can coach that style, he just can’t get the players to do it.

If it’s Red, I wouldn’t be surprised if (gulp) he tries to bring Seth Greenberg on staff.

IMHO, JW will REQUIRE someone with HC experience on the bench.

We are NOT going to roll with Red, GMAC &. Allen as the top 3 coaches.

He might require the same of Hop…or at least a respected offensive strategist.

if it is Red, and I hope it isn't, he needs a former Head coach and a recruiting rain maker.

Great observations, Jake. The argument that JW will maintain continuity in hoops makes sense, though I don’t agree with the assessment if that’s where he lands. One question though: Why would Hop not jump at the chance to return? Unless he actually turns things around at UW next season, he very well may be fired. Why not go back to your beloved alma mater where you know the staff, the program and the recruiting landscape so well and try to take a shot at fixing the issues in the program and getting us back to top 25 finishes? UW and west coach recruiting has huge challenges and isn’t easy to navigate. Some many of his connections are on the East coast and he’s built up a lot of loyalty in the high school and AAU world. If he returns to the East Coast and actually gets to run the Syracuse program his way, I think he’d crush it in recruiting and in the portal.
Hop got pretty good players at UW but couldnt win with them. I just don't see the logic in giving him choice to come back. Of course he does if he is given the chance, imo. no brainer.

Yeah, but what if he sneaks into the NCAA tournament this year and wins a couple games?
