Serious Q.

This coaching staff clearly has ZERO faith in his ability to either comprehend, or run, basic pass plays. He is a QB who can't run ANY pass plays, this deep into the season. He is trusted less than a freshman walk-on.

Why are panicking about burning a red shirt year for a QB who in game 11 of a season is not capable of running basic passing plays.

At this point I am 100% convinced that after Angeli next year our next QB will be someone not currently on this roster. The red shirt means nothing imo.

I’m pretty sure the eligibility rules are changing anyway where this wouldn’t even be an issue.

He ran pass plays. Not many, but they were no worse than anything we saw out of the other guys. He looked faster with better touch on the ball too. Small sample size though.

The one pass play he ran and completed against ND was better tape than any pass play our Lacrosse player has on tape so far after watching it all back on all 22.

Is that even a good thing? Do we want more QBs on this depth chart incapable of throwing a ball?
I think he hits the portal. He is undersized I see him at least being a game manager.

I don't think anyone is concerned. I think they concocted a story after the fact. If he doesn't enter the transfer portal, then color me surprised.
Bingo. If you want to be a coach players want to play for, you also work with them / their parents on this stuff even if they transfer. Treat people the right way. Goes a long way in life. It’s a lesson beyond football.

It might not be Fran’s choice, maybe Carney is telling Fran he doesn’t want to burn a year.

And the other two passes earlier in the year were ducks thrown into coverage that could have both been a pick 6. Him being pulled on 3rd and 9 tells you everything we need to know about carney.

Agree with Chip and richmondcuse03. None of US give a crap about his redshirt. Clearly the Carney family does. And since SU must have decided this summer that Carney isn’t good enough to play P4 football, se ms like they’re trying to be nice to the Carneys and let him keep a year of eligibility to play G6 or FCS. I guess. Who knows. He’s gone.

I believe it was discussed with his family and for various reasons decided it was in his best interest

Burn that mother down, y'all

I think it all comes down to Fran giving him and his family a commitment when he came to Syracuse that he would redshirt this year. Fran probably believes that keeping his word on that is important going forward regarding future recruits.

It's a learning experience. The lesson for Fran is to make sure your #3 QB is fully committed and able.

I'm sure Fran never imagined needing to play his #3 QB for more than 4 games. No one did.

Won't happen again.

If I'm a HC and ive got a kid who comes in as a borderline player at best, and says he wants to redshirt, I don't think I play him at all. Straight to practice squad. The way Carney has been used this year makes no sense to me. Fran said he put Carney in to slow things down. He could have used Collins for that role.

Agree. I think that's a critical aspect. If you get a reputation for not doing right by your players, it becomes difficult for even really good recruiters.
