agree. I'm frustrated by his in-game coaching but he can get better there...I hope. The talent issue he's upgrading and JW knows that. He really needs to pull out more wins this year and avoid a disastrous season.
Are the two new assistant coaches allowed to input their thoughts or not. One is a former head coach, who presumably can "see" things to help Red, and both these guys have been around talented guys. Plus add Alex Kline, who I think everyone respects, and the staff on paper should be considered at least an average coaching staff. But, there are definitely flaws or else some things that are happening, wouldn't be. Will the staff ever add a real big man coach?

It's the 7th season(1) since Louisville imploded, were put on sanctions and double secret sanctions and whatever, and they fired Pitino. They're on their 2nd AD and 5th(!) coach now (including an interim). In that time they've had a top-10 season (no tourney due to COVID) and three losing seasons - including two where Kenny Payne showed he can't coach. Kelsey is showing that he can coach in his first season and has the team back into the top-60 on KenPom (they finished 185 last season and 290 the season before) despite having the 2nd toughest schedule in the ACC this season so far with losses to top-ten teams Tenn, UK, Duke and then to OK and Ole Miss.

losing JJ is like losing Kyle He is without a doubt the leader of the team and the best player. Yes, better and more valuable than Donnie at this point. Not pro potential but to Syracuse this year. With JJ we might have won the last two games. Red isn't getting fired after this season He will however get fired after the next one if he doesn't significantly improve.
JJ is the best of a bad bunch. He wouldn't have cracked the rotation on some Syracuse teams with the defense he plays.

I'm sorry but this is a ridiculous take. We have a void of talent on the current roster outside of the two true freshman (that Red recruited). We have an excellent class coming in next season. You cannot afford to lose that class and have even less talent on the hill.

Especially when we've shown we are awful at scouting the portal/having the money to close top portal targets.
again who’s fault is it for the current roster. I’ll use your lil parenthesis too (the recruits and tranfers red recruited) ?? I dont care about Two players on the team, I care about the whole team and how it performs. We have an excellent class on paper but it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t bring results now does it? Yall harped the same BS last year. Look where we are. the talent we have isn’t anywhere near the talent that is enough to excuse and overcome terrible coaching and management, and unless we hit the gold mine in the portal next year it’ll only be marginally better/different. Some yall anointed Jaquan Carlos as looking like mf Johnny Flynn in practice. We couldn’t afford to lose the success, brand and image around our program either yet here we are sitting in our bed of feces complaining about how said bed was made.

So your plan is fire the coach, and hope the next guy can do better with the limited resources we have?

I caveated the transfers. Clearly Red is responsible for them but when you're offering mid major money, you're going to get mid major targets.

The biggest issue is Red is clearly built for the pre-portal era and this is a new age of basketball. His in-game coaching isn't great, however if he had premium talent it would look a lot better I'm sure. Jimmies & Joes > Xs & Os.

May as well let it atrophy until they shut it down since no private college can compete in D1 basketball anymore.

Or, you suck it up and see if Red can recruit his way out of it.

This year looks bad, but I'll give him one more with the class he has coming in.

A recruiting class now includes:
First years
Portals in
Portals out
If someone goes pro, not Red's issue.

If he can only get high school recruits and not hold onto current talent and can't bring in real external portal talent, he isn't a good recruiter in 2024. To your point, maybe he's a pre-portal coach, but I have seen nothing that shows me he can be the HC in terms of Xs and Os.

And if he isn't a good coach, then what do we have? If he can't drive fundraising? etc etc

You know what they call a leader with no followers? A guy taking a walk.

I get Red is getting year three and of course there is a shot that we turn this around, but everything has consistently said otherwise and people keep saying "wait, wait" and what that amounts to at this point is magical thinking. I'm tired of pointing out that the light has been blinking red for years.

I'd rather just have people say "We don't have the money to fire him. We didn't have the power to hire externally when the time was there. We are making a huge gamble with our basketball program in the current state of athletics and this conference that we can weather this storm and come out the other side as a team that can be back to being expected to be in the top 25 and an NCAAT team. And that's that. You are going to have to suck it up and watch a bad bball team for a bit more on this ongoing streak of bad years."

did we offer mid major money for our center?

The "Wait til next year and see what we have in the new commits" has resulted in a decade of irrelevance. There are always a couple of new commits.
Fwiw, I think Red gets another year, but this reasoning has always been the dirt worst.

only behind the “we’re not going to get anyone better” excuse were hearing from the same people that brought us that argument when we kept Dino 2 years too long

3 players on Tenn get more NIL money than our entire team. I brought this up a while back. We have done a terrible job with NIL. We are lucky we have Fran. He is a force to be reckoned with and our NIL has grown in football because of him. Right now, we are going to be fortunate to hold on to Moore and Freeman. Let alone strike gold in the portal next year. If we could hold to them, with the frosh class, and do better in the portal, good not great, we could be pretty good next year.

Sit back relax and write a check
Red's back next year and the Team Melo social media machine will be in full gear. Red isn't going anywhere after this season.

Fair enough, I’ll wait a little longer I guess.

How much should I make the check out for? Who do I send it to?
