Lost to Baylor.
Last year we weren’t making it. People who want to get technical can say we didn’t miss it but we all know what our eyes saw.
This would be a second consecutive season we weren’t getting an at-large bid.
No idea about next year.

And we were actually an 8 seed in 2019, and faced an underseeded Baylor team. Bad matchup there. Plus Frank Howard’s screwup sort of doomed us...

We had a shot last year. We had just crushed UNC in the ACC tourney, we were playing well, and had a shot to win two more games to get us into the big dance.

We had to beat Louisville and two other games.
Including Duke, and Florida State potentially.
I don’t think we were winning the ACCT but we weren’t getting an at-large bid.

We crushed more than a mere UNC team.
According to ESPN, we crushed the greatest 14th seed in the history of the ACC Tournament!

Exactly. We looked great vs UNC but we also laid an egg vs Miami the previous game. Anything can happen but I'd have been shocked if we had won the ACC tourney.

2006 taught me to never say never, but last year’s team coming out of the ACC Tourney as an NCAA Tourney team probably would’ve been even more unlikely than 2006 winning the BET.
UNC was like 14-18. They were terrible. Speaks volumes to how much they friggin own us that we went 1-1 against that trash last year. We couldn’t beat anybody good...just like this year. We’re physically inferior to the good teams.

2006 wasn’t even that much of a miracle.
The team went 19-11.
We played UConn and Villanova 4 times that year.
Those teams were two of the 4 1 seeds that season.
19-7 against the rest of that schedule wasn’t bad.
Last year’s team went 17-14 against an average at best schedule.

It felt like it at the time because it was a bad team by our standards at that point.
But we had the size and athleticism in the frontcourt to matchup with anybody in the country physically. And a legit backcourt with an all time great senior, and a freshman who was actually our best guard for much of that season. Way more ammo than we’ve got now.
Devo was a freshman but he and GMac were solid.
The problem was Wright and McCroskey.
JB actually gave those two 26 MPG combined and played 4 guards.

However yeah your right it was the standard at that point but once we beat Cincinnati we were in the tournament.
GMac’s BET was legendary and was the cherry on top of his career.
By the Gtown game we all knew Gerry was really hurt. That 2006 Syracuse team was the first team BET history to win a game after playing an OT the previous game.
Teams were 0-26 in that spot before 2006 SU.
If we lose to UConn that team is likely a 10 or 11 seed and maybe GMac gets healthier and win a game but that is a spot I would take the BET run over just winning a game or two in the NCAAT.
