WR Nykeim Johnson transferring to Kent St

Sean Lewis will end up having a better coaching career than Dino. He is proving he knows how to build a program. Dino hasn't as his longest tenure as a head coach is SU and other than one outlier season has been a failure.
Sean will magically turn this kid into a major weapon.
Let's file this comment away. This opinion is far from certain. There are plenty of coaches that have had success at lower levels that didn't translate when they stepped up to higher competition. I could see it going either way.

Seems like a huge downgrade for him. Going to miss being in packed dome next year playing Clemson and other top notch teams. Not too many people nationally are watching Kent State games

He wants playing time and the ball. A lateral move or a move to a better program is less likely to give him that.

As someone who has been I have to ask...has Nykiem ever been to Kent OH? As others have said he will likely have a very productive season and catch 3 times (or more) as many passes as would be coming his way at SU next year.

Happy for him. He should do well... assuming he can catch the ball on windy subfreezing November Tuesday nights in front of 100s.

Yeah and I would hope a 3 year starter for Syracuse who transfers to kent st could be a difference maker in the MAC. I am sure he will do well there and he's playing for the LEGENDARY BIG SEAN LEWIS. He will probably move up to a first round draft pick for that reason alone.

I gotta admit, there's something I like about Lewis. He strikes me as a guy that will be a really good coach. At this point, I wouldn't be too upset if he followed Dino. He does seem to have something.
Very interesting observation. Certainly would make transistion easier. (This is not to be construed as a forecast that this would happen any time soon!)

Whoa, treading on dangerous territory. Not only are you not allowed to hope the staff is actively looking at the portal but thinking Lewis is a good coach is a no-no too.

In fairness the other poster said Sean will have a better coaching career than Dino. That could still happen, but so far Sean has a losing record in the MAC. Dino went 18-9 in the MAC.

And I do hope Sean succeeds and gets a good future P5 job, it helps Dino and SU to make quality assistant coach hires if Sean succeeds.

My post is actually in response to other posts and not the one you're referring to. It's more tongue in cheek than anything. DB has had a very good career, to start Lewis needs to be able to stay relevant in "the game" for a real long time to even be in the conversation.

I suspect Lewis will have a better head coaching career than Dino, based solely on the fact that Lewis became a head coach at a younger age and has all kinds of time to succeed.

The situations they took over their MAC coaching jobs are entirely different so comparison of won loss records is misleading.
Bowling Green was a winning program and Dino kept them as a winning program.
Kent state was a losing program and Lewis has turned them into a winning program.

A lot will depend on which P5 job Sean ends up at IMO. If he takes a job like SU, I'm not sure he will. But he'll have some solid options IMO.

That is true but Dino is also trying to rebuild a losing program right here, and I think odds are Sean will end up at a better P5 program than SU. It will take a while to do a proper comparison IMO.

I wish all former Orange players and coaches every success. NJ was a good player for us and I wish him well. Sean Lewis is only like 34 or 35. He played for Wisconsin and did a great job for us. He has done a remarkable job at a horrible program. I think he might wind up at a fair to middling Big 12 or B1G program in a few years.

I agree, but I was just responding to your comment that compared MAC records.

In order to even break .500 every year Lewis has to go 6-3 in conference because they schedule SEC and B10 teams which will almost always win. A lot different then us having an almost guaranteed 3-1 OOC every year

So the question is, is it easier to win 6 games in the MAC or 3 games in the ACC?

when we compare Kent State and Syracuse. 3 games, if you are on equal pairing with your opponents 3-5 should be easier then 5-3. Going .500 in conference play means you don’t even make a bowl unless you upset one of your 3 money games. Syraxuse has a chance for 3-1 4-0 in OOC every year. To got 2-6/3-5 in the ACC isn’t much to ask for. I bet you Sean Lewis wishes he could do that and still make a bowl. KS before him was bad. Like really really bad. He had improved them up to recruiting at about .81 when they used to be .79 and next year he has a 5/6 year senior QB and a WR in Nyk who will Both be auditioning for the NFL. They will make a bowl game I bet next year
