Was that the game Quint referenced in yesterday’s GT/MD game that forced the NCAA to seriously consider the shot clock, or was that 2013? I know it involved SU and Quint said our team was so dominant offensively that the stall was all anyone could do. Made it sound like we were the better team and the result was a bad moment for college lacrosse.

that game probably didn't help, but there were a whole lot of games that went that way for that period of time.
teams that thought they were at a talent or depth disadvantage (a bunch of mid-majors included) would try deflate the ball. the sticks were tighter than they are now.
in 2013, they instituted a "stall clock" when the refs thought there was too much stalling going on. put a 30 sec timer on them basically, where before they could only put them in the box. not sure when the sticks were widened.

in 2019, the shot clock came in.

Same. We all want this program to be back on top. Gait accepted the challenge. He finally got us back to the championship weekend. Now it's time to bring home another title.

It is unfortunate to live in a world when you post something on a message board and everyone revisits it when things play out in a different way The fun of posting is to share an opinion at that moment and have a running dialog about it. My wife and just about everyone I know could care less about Syracuse lacrosse so I come here to see what people's opinions are about the team. It is fun to be online with a group that are as passionate about the team as you. I also think I have learned a lot about the game. I played it 30 (gulp) 30 years ago and continue to learn about it from this board and by watching it.

The biggest Achilles heal since Gait took over is inconsistency and extended sloppy play and to a lesser extent penalties. You saw all 3 in that 1st half. The bigger concern is that I'm not sure it can ever be cleared up enough, been an issue all 4 years.

This team sure didn’t pass the eye test as a team that wanted it more. We had them in desperation trying to clear mcnaney chucked it up and nobody raced to it with urgency.

At this stage of the season I’ve seen way too many slow starts you can’t do that and expect to win. Bottom line is Maryland was 1000 percent prepared we seemed way too happy to just get back to the semifinals

You're right. I just went back and looked at it (about 5 times). It's at 4:47 left in the 1st Qtr. He took 2 or 3 steps across the restraining line but then immediate hit the sideline out of bounds. I'm not sure he was in there for even a full second. The logisitcal problem is that he's on the other side of midfield and on the other side of the field from the Syracuse bench so it would not have been easy for an official near Gary to know that he was across the restraining line. I also saw that he could have easily passed it to English very near him at the midfield line. There were still about 65 seconds left on the shot clock so a well coached team would have known that English still had time to go back across the midfield line to make it an easier pass to him from McCool. [Of course, why in the world is McCool not coached to not do that in the first place, and he did it twice in the 1st qtr.]

How about enough to win a National Championship? With the coach saying the goal was to make the Final Four, did the team and coaching staff really have the commitment to go farther? I'm still not convinced that Gary is a real coach and not just a CEO. Looking back over the 4 games that the team won -- ACC tnmt, Harvard, Princeton -- how much did good coaching have to do with it (other than saying "one day at a time") and how much was it the players themselves? From player interviews I get the impression it was the senior leadership, particularly Caden Kol and Michael Grace, that inspired the players to do better, and in the Harvard game, the crowd may have played a big part. So coaching? As others have aptly said: same old problems were evident in yesterdays game. It probably has already been said in the game day thread (which I haven't fully gone through yet; it's hard to read after the fact) the one word I have for our performance yesterday: embarassing.
