2022 MLB Season

RHYS

I get that Baker wants to get innings out of McCullers, but give the kid a break. This is borderline cruel, at this point.

I can’t believe a team I paid zero attention to all season and assumed would lose to the Cardinals, is going to win the freakin World Series.

As a cardinals fan, that top of the 9th is the "oh ship" moment for me. I always root for the NL team unless they're pond scum.

lots of baseball to be played.

That said, while I think that in general, the effect of the home crowd in baseball is somewhat minor, these Phillies crowds are impacting games.

I generally always root for the NL unless they’re the SF Giants. So….pond scum.

Phillies are what the Yankees expected and hoped to be against the Astros. Fearless, smashing home runs, unbelievably raucous crowd.

Instead, they were the opposite.

Sigh.

I predicted that game wrong. I thought the Astros starter would shut them down. The Astros pitching better show up tonight because they haven't hit squat in this series, I thought Houston pitching would dominate.

Javier has a no-hitter through 6

Ok, now what is baseball coming to? Christian Javier has a no-hitter going thru 6 innings in a World Series game and he is being relieved?? Or, maybe I should say, and he’s giving up the ball?

Don Larsen is rolling over in his grave.

A six inning no-hitter hasn’t been an accomplishment since Little League. Don’t these guys have any pride in accomplishment anymore? You’d have to have stadium security escort me off the playing field if I was Javier.

Modern baseball: Your man is pitching a no-hitter so you take him out after the 6th inning and see if the next guy -and the next guy - and the next guy can keep it going. Hey, it worked!

He pitched 6 innings almost 100 pitches (threw 20 pitches in the 6th inning), 5-0 lead in game 4. He would have gone maybe 1 more inning, now a 2-2 series he comes back to pitch Game 7 on 3 days rest without being overextended. The accomplishment is the Ring.

Really have to let go of "this how it was done in the old days", that's gone.

Don Larsen threw 97 pitches in his perfect game. Javier was at 97 (?) when he got yanked, long counts and walks.

He wasn't going to throw 135 pitches.

I agree that this shouldn't (and won't) go down in baseball lore like Larsen.

But, why shouldn’t he? Why is 100 a magic number? Does anyone really believe that all arms are the same and can only endure 100 pitches or even that the number would be a “magical” round number like 100?

There's more than a whisper campaign that the Nats ruined Corbin and Stras with overuse in 2019.

I tend to agree that 100 seems like a too comfortable round number.

I think the 100 number is what media and fans throw around. I assume organizations have a more nuanced approach that is certainly informed by probabilities.

I think the recent drop in pitch counts has more to do with evidence of reduced effectiveness with each turn through the order than injury prevention.

Don didn't have to throw #98.

Schwarber!
Ties it with another big home run

First farmer’s blow gone wrong in World Series history.

McCormack's catch was awesome, but Mancini's pick at first was more important.
