2023 Spring Practice

Our punter the last two years have been as weak as any i have ever seen play for Syracuse. If in fact the kicking game especially the punt unit is strong combined with what is shaping up to be a heck of a D we are going to be in every game
Agree special teams should finally be….special again.

Stonehouse had a really good frosh season. Exciting he will haves 3 years left.

Emily didn’t mention Callahan as the long snapper. He is a transfer from Fordham who was first team All Patriot. I think he is the odds on favorite to be our long snapper. He should be a good one,

Denaberg had a great career kicking and playing QB in HS in Florida and his athletic ability gives the team another dimension. Gotta think we will fake at least one FG and have Denaberg throw or run instead. Maybe even give him an option. Remember he led his HS team to the state championship game in HS as a QB.

Barron is surely going to be the holder.

Peña will surely be the guy returning punts and KOs. Thinking Price or Adams will also return kickoffs.

We should be very good overall here.

Great breakdown Tom… Very important part of the game that should be greatly improved. Can be a strength for us.

Denaberg was our first kicker in how long to routinely get it in the endzone for us? Honestly can't remember but such a big upgrade he was last year. I agree that our specialists are looking pretty good for this season.

Is Denaberg Riley Dixon 2.0?

Didn't they recently change the rules regarding the kickoff yard line so that it was moved shorter or am I thinking of the NFL maybe? Reasoning being to ensure kickers can get it to the endzone resulting in more touchbacks and less injuries in kick returns.

If they don't want injuries on kick returns, just give the other team the ball on the 20. For punts, give the kicking team 40 yards. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

Touchbacks come out to the 25.

Kickoffs that are "fair caught" inside the 25 are brought out to the 25.

I haven't watched video of Cohoon much. Does he have the wiggle to be a returner? With his speed, he could be an interesting option there.

Anyone else feel this team could be really good if we can just find 6 offensive lineman. I feel we have two right now, Cruz and Ellis. Let’s see what happens.

Bleich and More have more collegiate starts than Cruz.

I thought about both. Here are my concerns. Bleich is hurt a lot. Now he is hurt again. A healthy Bleich would absolutely be a solid starter. The thing is we just haven’t seen it. He was hurt while playing last season and honestly he wasn’t very good.
Maybe I reading to much into it but no one has mentioned More anywhere. Maybe that means absolutely nothing. I hope it’s just radio silence but I find it somewhat alarming.

There are concerns about the O line but I wouldnt say they only have 2 lineman. llaoa and Bradford played snaps. More has lots of experience. Let's see how they look during the spring game. They also have at least two more lineman coming in this summer.

I think that's the first time I've ever seen Folk smile.
They normally scrimmage on Saturdays and I think the scrimmage the weekend before the spring game is usually the biggest of the spring. Often plays a big role determining the pecking order at positions.

Let’s hope we get some info on who did well sometime soon.

Sounds like Caleb had himself a day, on and off the field….

Bleich has more DNP than Cruz also.
Bleich is a great kid but would probably be best not to count on him for a full season.
He would probably be best to get his degree and start his career after college.

He got TWO ice creams.

PFF rated Bleich as one of our top OL. To my eyes, he was only behind Bergeron.

I am really happy he is coming back. Hope he can show what he is capable of when 100% for a whole season.
