Class of 2024 ATH Malachi James (NJ) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (2/7/24)

He was offered at the end of December and committed to the Orange following his visit. None of that was made public, however, as he waited until National Signing Day to make his intentions known.

"Coach Fran said he didn't want anybody in his business," James said. "He wanted to keep it a surprise until signing day. It was important for me to gain his trust right away. I think it was a test and I passed."

Interesting that this was kept hush hush but McDaniel wasn't. Similar guys flying under the radar.

Here is his commitment video...its certainly something. Production value off the charts! Love it
I generally find these videos a little on the self-serving side. This one was great. Kid has already contributed.
I believe he's Fran-tically motivated.

MJ is much bigger than Sean was. He's listed at 5'11" and 195lbs. IIRC, Riley was about a buck-sixty as freshman.
Sorry, I was referring more to his potential role with his speed, and how it might be similar to how Riley was used, etc. Yeah, size? Not even close!

Swiss Army knife with killer speed. Seems like a great asset on any football team.

What? I have never seen a human being run so fast.

If he has good hands, I see more of a Tyreek Hill, all-purpose slot back than traditional rb.
He looks like he has soft hands from some of the defensive highlights.

He certainly has breakaway speed. Once he gets an opening no one is catching him.

It is primarily run to evaluate the speed and acceleration of American football players by coaches and scouts particularly for the NFL Draft but also for collegiate recruiting. A player's recorded time for every position can have a heavy impact on his prospects in college or professional football.

Also, 8 TD catches on only 25 receptions is a crazy stat! Just shows that he had a QB that wasnt great, but when he got the ball he was electric. I love keeping it hush...Fran and the staff clearly didn't want anyone else to discover him until it was too late

10.9-11.0 guys will win a majority of HS meets in the North. Tenths below that are exponentially harder to drop. 10.4-10.5 is usually state champ and, as you'd alluded, "Southern" fast.

Not sure where this gentleman projects but he should be returning kicks if nothing else which I love the idea of return specialists.
My son in law had a best of 11.2 which was good enough to make the NYS Class B state finals. So your#s seem about right.

Ok... not defending the kid. But just for clarity... I see references to him being "involved" with the shooting. I don't see anything saying he was the shooter. That can mean a lot of things. He helped, he was there and didn't try to stop it, he instigated it, he was just part of the group. I hope if he did the shooting he would still be in prison. Although we have gotten pretty soft on crime... I hope that would still be the case.

Wow!! I saw with my eyes that he was fast but 4.38 fast is really something.
