Been told 1 more year for JB

As Ustate said...Not all NCAAT teams are created equally.

Right. The point is that bad teams don’t make the NCAAT. The one exception might be teams that make lucky conference tournament runs.

Colgate has been good the last two years. People have different definitions of ‘good’, but they’ve been better than the bottom 2/3rds of D1 programs.

Back to the post that kicked this off, it wouldn’t make sense to fire a coach for losing to a team at/near the top 1/3rd of teams playing basketball.

Keep trying to make fetch happen.

To the same team two years in a row from a weak mid major conference. Stop trying to shift the goalposts.

I’m not. The OP was making reference to Colgate with the implication that Colgate isn’t a good team.

But they are a good team. So his point didn’t have a foundation.

And not all teams with good records and get into the NCAAT are good. They are just better than the teams in their conference. And with a 3-31 record in the NCAAT it shows they may be good against their conference but not necessarily a good team.

Oh wait, I have a good point. A super super good point based on the logic here.

Not all teams from a weak conference are the same!

Omg. What a revelation!

They’re a good mid major team. They’re not a good team. Yes they made the tourney last year but got immediately smoked. They’ve lost to Vermont two years in a row as well. Are they a better good team than you’re trying to make Colgate out to be?

I honestly don’t believe you know what your actual point is here. Are you building up JB or Langel?

We have advanced analytics for this reason. Kenpom isn’t God, but his rankings aren’t usually off by 50+ spots.

I'm so tired of all this that I just want an announcement of any kind. While I'd prefer Jim to move on, I wouldn't be nearly as upset as many in this thread if he comes back one last year provided that Jesse and Mintz also come back AND we get a solid contributor at the forward position via portal. However, if we lose those two guys and only get a marginal transfer, god help us.

That all said, don't you think Jim would have a good feeling about who is likely coming back if he decides he wants one last year? I mean, who in their right mind would think they would be successful with a team minus Mintz, Jesse, and an upgrade at the forward spot? On second thought, don't answer that. I think I know who.

Neither. The OP that losing to Colgate two years in a row is grounds for firing was a goofy point without any reason behind it. All I did was point out that Colgate was good.

You guys spun that off into a big thing. And the OP I replied to was probably tongue-in-cheek as it was.

My ultra-controversial point that you can’t wrap your head around because it’s so controversial and whacky: Losing to a good basketball team two years in a row shouldn’t get a coach fired. Colgate has been good the 2 years this happened.

You know that will happen if he comes back that’s why the AD need to be firm with the plan

We have different definitions of good.

Time out. You’re right in that most fans overreacted to the Colgate losses. They’re a better team than their history and reputation suggests. Still, other than beating us, they haven’t done much in non-conference play and the best they can say about their recent tournament appearances is that they kept it close against power schools.

We shouldn’t get into the habit of losing to other NY schools, including St. John’s. That doesn’t mean it’s a fireable offense. It shouldn’t be acceptable either.

Stop putting a band-aid on things we don't need JB back for one more hypothetical magically year that will never happen. We need to rip the band-aid off and start the healing process as a program. Too many variables for JB to come back for a year. Next thing you know he would be here another 10 years ask Hop. (I know know know I am sure it will be different THIS time).

This isn’t true. You don’t need to embellish to make your argument.

Unless it's 1923, Syracuse should never lose to Colgate. I can't believe there are actual Syracuse fans that are totally ok losing to them twice in a row. They're not a good team and they outscored us by 36 after we took an 18 point lead.

I hope you're a lawyer, because you're legit good at rationalizing nonsense.

Top 1/3rd of teams playing basketball. Are there many examples of being in the top 1/3rd of something and not being considered good? We’re not talking great. We’re not taking very good. Just good.

If your NFL team had the 10th best QB in the league, you wouldn’t call him good? Let’s say you don’t agree with the rankings that put them in the top 1/3rd. They’re certainly top half. You’d call the 15th best QB what? Trash?

Feel free to let me know what else you’d like me to relate this to if football isn’t your thing.

Turns out I misread the final score, so you’re correct.

Edit, they did get smoked by Arkansas the year before.

NFL teams, even the Jets, are all like P5 hoops teams. There is no comparison here.
