Bowling Green journalist on Babers

Haha, Thomas is a good writer and isn't scared to get inside information if he needs to. I've talked with people I still know in the program and in the community and I'd be shocked if Mizzou lands Dino.
Why do you say that?

Missouri is also said to be interested in him and most of the talk around the BG campus is that he'll be the next Missouri coach, not the next Syracuse coach, although the Dome would be an ideal place for his offense.
SWC, you're not doing his comments justice. Jordan made it sound like Mizzou is the clear front runner
I would say my reaction upon reading this was appropriate...

Huh? Missou was an 11-win team two years ago. They won 12 games in '13 and finished ranked fifth in the country. They have won at least 8 games in 8 of the past 10 seasons. I get that the SEC is a nightmare but I'm not sure how anybody could look at that objectively and say, "I think Syracuse is the program that has the best shot at getting into the final four."
I meant to say..easiest route.

listen, we just need to know who to send the group e-card to...schmeltz, dino, you or someone else??

Missouri isn't for everybody. We go there every 3 years for wifey's family reunion. It's a very backward place. (Sorry all you missouri folks on the board - JMHO.) I'd live in Mississippi before moving to Mizzou. Just sayin.

We aren't as good a job as Missouri. No denying that.
I get what you are saying, however, in some ways we are much better. Missouri has loads of baggage that we don't have.
Getting caught in the middle between Missouri rednecks and black students can and may be a huge distraction.

Missouri? Doesn't pass the Schmeltz test.
When I saw your avatar it reminded me of that poster from East Carolina several years back when we were going after Skip Holtz. He had a purple dinosaur if I recall as his avatar. I was like, "oh , this guys back and we are pursuing Skip Holtz again. "

I can buy that more easily but I still don't necessarily agree that it's true. I think you could make a pretty compelling argument that outside of PedSt., the likelihood of a northeast team reaching the final four right now is < likely than basically any other power 5 school. I mean, obviously the competition isn't quite as strong in the ACC (though the SEC East wasn't particularly nasty this year, but the fact remains ...), but you've still got a massive gap to close if you're rutgers/umd/wvu/bc/su. I guess you could argue Pitt's a little closer, but there's still a huge void there.

In the end it's probably irrelevant and I can at least see the argument re: easiest route, but getting SU to the top of the ACC is about as daunting a task as you're going to find in the P5 as far as I'm concerned.

clemson is number one in the country and SU was closer to beating them then we ever seemed to be when playing miami back in the day when we had top 10-20 type teams. even the year we almost did they seemed unbeatable far more than the clemson team we see now does. the SEC is down but there are 7-8 teams that have great talent.. not sure the ACC has more than 2-3 right now

Exactly. Syracuse has the ability to pull off an ACC championship even having to be in the same division as Clemson and FSU. It's not impossible. We do that and we are likely in. If IOWA can get in, so can Syracuse at some point.

The ACC has the right mix of quality. Win 2 really tough teams and a 3rd in the conference championship = easier than 4-5 tough teams and a crazy conf champ in the SEC.

I will say I think Babers is definitely qualified to coach at Missouri, but with racial tensions, if he is hired there it may look like a minority hire for the sake of a minority hire. He may not want to be exposed to that.

I really think Babers ends up at Cuse. In a lot of Babers' interviews/press conferences, and interviews with beat writers, there is mention of the weather interfering with his offense and play calling - the Dome solves that problem. Not sure exactly how important it is to him, but he mentions it A LOT.

Lets hope we can land the Dinosaur Baby!

This is more or less what I'm thinking. There may be other mitigating factors above and beyond conference affiliation and dollars that could turn some one off to Missou.

has anyone seen Iowa play and thought, wow there goes a top 10 team? let alone top 4.. MSU might throw out a dud and lose but iowa is a pretty one dimensional team to get to the playoffs with

I've driven through mizzou a few times now and I'll just say there is some interesting signage next to the highways there that I really haven't seen in other states.

But I will say lake of the ozarks is amazing.

Here in Iowa...Missouri is looked at much like PA is to NYers. Cheaper gas and smokes...with brothers and sisters waaay to fond of each other. Although the Ozarks are a really really good time.

Us here in PA have the same views of the folks in WV...

It's a very insular place. Not really part of the south. Not really part of the midwest. Very weird legislature. Lots of race problems. Generally crappy weather all year. We go to the Lake of the Ozarks (I am forced to go). It doesn't compare to CNY - on any level. Well, maybe the weird legislature part.

Oh yeah, the East Carolina guy. I think it was a purple hippo. Can't remember his handle...Haven't seen him for quite a while. :D

nothing compares to, jeepers gotta be pushing 14, 15 years ago when we had thread view (still the best view IMO) and the GreyAvenger was trying to get memphis into the bigmidwest and somehow managed to embed a sound byte into his handle so everytime you clicked on 1 of his posts...you heard Eye of the Tiger.

Agreed. Don't forget, Wake Forest won the ACC title in 2006.

And BC made back to back appearances in the ACC title game in 2007 and 2008, and that was coming out of the Atlantic. I know FSU and Clemson were down back then, but still...
