Coach Search Options after Autry

Might we be one of the first programs where you just openly say that a program is for sale to the highest bidder? SU Bball now has an owner or a consortium of owners vs being part of SU?
That would certainly get us back in the national discussion...

The point remains, the loser of this little game, will not join the other side. I wish they would. But i will believe it when I see it.
Probably true, unfortunately. But the point is there is some concern that Melo’s enthusiastic support is tied to some expectations for Kiyan that might not be there with a different coach.

So you agree that it's not just Melo who should put up the same money
if they are on the losing side? Great. Welcome aboard.

Great, but I don't think Melo's money should allow him to make terrible decisions and hold the University hostage, like hiring a terrible coach with a track record of losing. That is reckless and dumb to be allowed.

If it is, take your ball and go home, and these are my options:

Melos 1 time 30 million + Terrible coach + Kiyan featured
or
Lally (insert number here lets guess 8 million) + Up and Coming coach with a nice track record with new ideas and no ties to anything

I am taking the second option 100 times out of 100 because it gives Syracuse the best chance long term.

Questions for any of the insiders: would the Lally’s donate $ to basketball for Hop? Would it be as much as they would give if it was BH instead? Do they like Hop as much as BH?

LOL we won't be close to the first. Check out Oregon. Among many others.

Poor choice of words in terms of one of the first but instead just saying we would be all in on the private capital like model in order to just have massive amounts of capital to buy rosters however we want including I presume G league guys who never played in college…

it wasnt a melo - gmac thing really. it was melo wanting his friend edelin to be more the pg. jb basically told him who the hell has been getting you the ball before edein could play. i'm sure there was much more jb said. but melo and gmac got along fine.
Good to know. I’ve always heard it presented as a Melo vs GMac thing.

You are entitled to your opinion. Others are entitled to theirs. Time will sort of tell. Although, we won't know for sure because one of them is not going to get the job and we won't know what they would have
done. Like with members of the opposite sex, the one that got away is always the catch.

I feel like once again I have to release this disclosure. I am not advocating for
Hopkins. Nor is anyone else that I see giving information. But there seems to
be anger at us. Like we are making a decision here. And while I was told I might
hear more later, nothing has been finally decided yet.

I dont think anyone is angry at you, or Bulldog04 it comes off as that because most of us are angry at the information you are sharing, not at you personally.

Well, it's not like BH isn't attempting the same thing. And all Hopkins is doing is making the case for why he is the best man for the job. This is what I bring to the table in other words. Just as we all do or have done on any job application.
So money but no track record of success? Good lord the powers that be are idiots.

Old white people making huge decisions with the only thing in mind is how much money they can collect, rather than doing what’s best. What a shocker!

If they hire Hop, I’m done with this program. Unserious.
If Hop gets the job and has this kind of money, he better have thick skin because everyone will expect a top ten team and rightfully so.

I can say this with certainty - Melo has a package of $30 million (and growing) lined up for Hop. This includes nba players, local guys and a few that have never donated to cuse ever before. The plan is to front load that money for the first 2 years to immediately become relevant. But that’s what the deal is for Hop from Melo.
Welp, there is the nail in the coffin. Get ready to have three straight bubble seasons. This year has proven that big NIL budgets do not equate to success.

Let's look at Kentucky. The roster costs 20 million, and what have they done? 18-10 barley getting through to the tournament. They have Mark Pope as a coach, who was solid at BYU in the Big 12. Now he has been fined for a hot mic controversy, and his team is floundering. They are at least a bubble team, which is more than we can say about SU, but do the 18-10 records and constant bubble teams remind people of a period for SU basketball not too long ago?

Another case study is a fan-favorite team in Georgetown. They started pushing money into the program and landing some very solid HS ballers and some talent from the portal. Where are they now? Losing record in the Big East with a coach who has had a record very similar to Autry.

Not to say that Hopkins would be a horrendous coach because that is a lie. However, it would continue to announce to fans and College basketball nation that Syracuse Basketball is okay with just squeaking into tournaments here and then becoming a perennial bubble team for good. Because that is how Hopkins fared at Washington with good support from UW.

This is not an attack on your insider knowledge, as it is respected. But just a way to visualize why the invalid fascination that boatload of NIL would save a program, because we have seen recently that it might not be that easy.

Yeah if Melo is legit getting Syracuse Men's Basketball $30 million+, Syracuse should need to see proof they are willing to spend 20 million each year on the roster if they are making Mike Hopkins the head coach. Duke or Kentucky will step up their game because we will be in their spending range. Others will catch wind and try to inflate their position in the market. Top tier assistants, we need to be playing in MSG, very few cupcakes on the schedule. Damn, I guess seeing Syracuse lose to Hofstra and Boston College really lit a fire under Melo, like holy crap, I just hope he is putting his energy and efforts to the right guy because he certainly doesn't have the track record to get hired on his resume.
