I know we can't look into the future, but do you think Syracuse is a stepping stone hire for Syracuse? If he is successful here, do you think we are a desirable enough school for him to coach at or will he leave if a bugger school such as Oregon, OSU, FSU, or other big name schools want to hire him?

toss up yes because he would be great no because of his age

This is a chance for Dino & Co. to show their stuff on the big stage. If it works, some of his assistants will move on. If its sustained then Dino might move on. If so, you'd think that one of his, or his friends', protégés would want to continue the success.

I think every competetive person will always look for a challenge and if he succeeds here, i'd expect attractive opportunities would entice him.

What's a "bugger school". Whatever it is, it doesn't sound like Babers would leave for one.

We're coming off a 4-8 season and he is a good 8 months away from coaching his first game here, and we're already worrying if he's going to move on for greener pastures if he succeeds like we hope he will? I've posted this before in response to threads like these, and once again it's relevant...

Why don't we wait until we're averaging 10 wins a year before we worry about losing Dino? Just a thought. ;)

It's a question for the ages.

As long as HCDB's OC is still here after as orange79 said, 10 win seasons...I'm sure the keys to the Dome kingdom will be turned over to him. May his rein be long!

Silly internet contemplations...guess I'll jump in too! Of course Syracuse is a "stepping stone" program. As long as there are bigger, more successful, more profitable programs in the country SU will always be a stepping stone program. Does anyone really think Coach P wouldn't have listened and probably left if Texas or Ohio St or Alabama had wanted him? Babers age works a little to our favor but remind me how old Coach Mac was when he stepped up to an NFL job? (61 BTW) Could the reins be handed off to the OC or another coach? Maybe. But how many of HCDB's assistants stayed at BG? My hope is that the Dome starts rocking again while HCDB is here and if he is successful enough that he gets a better offer that the powers that be realize what it was he did to be successful and finds a similar minded coach.

Guys you never know what's important to a man regarding his career or family. Maybe Dino is like Briles and builds a program the way he wants it and turns down Texas in favor of continuing what he started (we can only hope). Or maybe he is super successful and leaves. Either way it means we are in better shape than we are today. Relax, enjoy that we finally spent some money and got a good hire, and let's see what the next three years bring us!

If HCDB wins and SU continues to support him with the things he needs to be successful it may a helluva ride. You have to like the fact that there is a new chancellor then AD and now HC in that order so that the harmony should be pretty smooth sailing since all were hired top down. I really do like our chances here.

That was true for the 3 previous coaching hires as well. The one time that the coaching change occurred at an appropriate time it led to on-the-field improvement.

I like the fact that the SUAD has previous experience as AD and that the football coach has previous experience as HC & is bringing (most of) his previous staff with him.

I didn't feel as confident because of multiple factors with the previous 3 that you mentioned. For this group for football, I do. All this hiring seemed to have a nice flow and are better fits. But as you said, SU did go the same route previously...very true and good point about the AD.

I wonder what HCDB's philosophy is regarding the OOC schedule? At Baylor...well it's beyond terrible and BG had to schedule some P5's in order to prove themselves...curious on his thoughts about the LSU's and ND's?

Except for Florida St, Clemson, Louisville, Georgia Tech, who have natural rivalry games, most of the other ACC schools schedule likely wins, so should we.

There's never any guarantees, but I do like that Babers volunteered that this is a destination job for him. Hope he follows the Briles model, as he has mentioned him as someone who had the greatest influence on him. I also think he really likes the Dome.

Thanks coach! ;) I agree it's tough but since the ACC plays only 8 Conference games I'd like one tough game OOC...prestige wise like LSU.
