Jimmy never believed he committed a foul. Ever.
To win, you need players who are good on offense and defense.

Jimmy was likely the worst defender to play heavy minutes here ever. Not his fault - he did his best. Program should’ve never put him in that position.

I agree - we need an offensive threat at forward….one who competes defensively too though, if he’s going to help us win.

Part of this is true. The fanbase will be split on what to do next but after that I don't see the end of Syracuse basketball as long as we are willing to spend money to hire a quality coach and keep up with NIL game.
Add to that the best fans in college basketball, a renovated Dome and the ACC. That's prime.

I just can't take any more zone man I am 1000% done with it. You can say and whoever can say well Red or GMac wont run zone 100% of the time and we will see more press and more man but that same stuff was said about Hop and when he got his chance he went 100% zone. The zone is all Red and GMac have been taught and I just want a full break from that style of basketball.
Eh, Red played pro ball overseas for a decade, coached at Virginia Tech as an assistant, and if I recall was a big AAU coach?

I don’t think it’s necessarily true that he’ll be a 24/7 zone guy or that he can’t coach man.

It’s just a harder sell to hire an assistant, when the program isn’t doing well….fair or not.

The question that we are not asking, and it is always the most important question, is why? Why say these things now. My theory, someone spoke to jb about stepping down. This was his answer. Letting everyone know, it's going to be ugly. Just my theory.

Hes going to coach next season which will be at least as good as this possibly better and retire

I understand this conventional wisdom, but I agree with AZ above. All bets might be off in the near future.

Nothing is set in stone at this point. I'm not sure that it ever was, truthfully.

Except no. He has a long history of not recruiting over starters. So Buddy (future professional basketball player) not getting recruited over was not at all odd. This doesn’t seem to be a ‘dad wanted to play his son all the minutes cuz nepotism’ thing.

KR and Joe splitting minutes seemed fair. KR is more of a PG but his AST% doesn’t indicated anything special. Joe brought things that Kadary didn’t. Perfect situation to split time.

Guerrier left because he didn’t get to play on the perimeter as much as he wanted. The plan was for him to play 30+ mpg if he returned like JB would have preferred. Braswell and Newton weren’t ready and the benefit of hindsight shows that neither is particularly good. So Jimmy played out of necessity, and not a necessity caused by JB forcing guys out (unless limiting Woody’s inefficient minutes counts as forcing him out). The number of transfers out was a blindside; recruiting was done, so the only thing the team could have done in place of Jimmy was a different transfer. And it’s not like we get to just pick the transfers we like.
We made no effort to get other more impactful transfers. And it wasn’t the assistant coaches’ fault. I liked them bringing in Cole. He was a good addition. Jimmy was fine as a bench guy, not a starter on an ACC team trying to compete for championships. Good offensive player but Too slow and not athletic enough, especially as a forward in the back of the zone. I’d rather have had QG or even Alan Griffin or you know, work harder on the transfer portal. And losing Kadary really hurt. JB should have done everything he could to get him to return. He did almost nothing. His ego, as always, gets the better of him.

That is a good point. Seemed incredibly random for that “story” to come out on a Saturday night after we actually won a game.

That's what people used to say about Hopkins, too. And yet, he plays 100% zone.

If Jimmy was coming in as a possible 17 mpg guy (if he beats Benny out…which he would’ve), and Braswell stayed….and if Kadary had already been the starting Pg like he should’ve been and stayed….

Kadary
Buddy
Braswell
Cole
Jesse

Joe
Jimmy
Frank

We’re almost certainly dancing with that lineup, IMO, because you’ve actually got a starting lineup with 3 good defenders in it(and the other 2 guys are at least tall for their position) plus a real PG, plus 3 shooters and a C who can score…with two scorers off the bench. We would’ve actually had some balance. That team is probably similar to the 2021 sweet 16 team.

I think everybody would be a heck of a lot more patient with this years “young” team if we didn’t watch that avoidable abomination last year.

Hop didn’t have a pro basketball career(to speak of), and didn’t coach anywhere else. He got on the SU staff when he was like 25. Autry had his own career and was doing fine, before he came here.

I’m 100% with you that we need to go outside….but I don’t think Autry will necessarily be a 100% zone guy because his b-ball experiences are not solely with Boeheim. He spent a solid 18 years outside of Syracuse, as an adult.

Without naming names, I think egos other than JB’s played a role, too. Hypothetically, I don’t know how a coach continues to coach a team after giving in to a slightly above average player’s demands about playing time and usage.

Even though I dislike this answer this seems reasonable either that or JB has officially went off the rails.

Just to clarify, the only point of your post I was honed in on was the 100% zone thing. And that's where it's important to note that Hopkins himself indicated that he would play other types of defense. And then when push came to shove, he resorted to what he knows.

I don't dispute that Red has had some outside experiences; maybe he would do things differently. But that's exactly what everyone claimed Hop would do, and he didn't. So I just don't take that assumption on face value. Has nothing to do with your post.

And I know that we are on the same page about what needs to happen to right the ship.

Great post and analogy.
I remember the Denny Crum mess at Louisville, and how it divided their entire community.
Look, I'm not saying Wildhack can summon JB into his office and give him the boot, but it's time to have a concrete, ahem "discussion" about when this will end, and then...come out and make the announcement.
As bad as the Crum situation was, he wasn't approaching 80 years when it happened. Maybe it's wishful thinking that this can be worked out somewhat gracefully, but I got nothing else.
Wildhack should call Jurich for advice or a pep talk, lol. Honestly, Wildhack could force JB out tomorrow if he really wanted to. The BOT would ultimately have to live with it. It would be a big risk though. And you know Wildhack doesn’t want things to come to that. He wants a smooth handoff, figures JB is near the end of the road, and wants him to remain around the program for fundraising. If JB really decided to dig his heels in, I’m sure Wildhack would want buy-in from the key BOT stakeholders to force JB into retirement. I think we’re getting pretty close to that situation and JW making a move behind the scenes, but my bet is it comes after next season. It would also be helpful if he had a splash hire waiting in the wings.

Wildhack should convince Boeheim to do a media tour and then let nature take its course.

The team pulls out a nice win yesterday, plays well down the stretch and Jesse and Judah have great games. And instead all the chatter today is about our out-of-touch head coach. Julie and the kids need to sit him down and tell him it’s time.

People meaning SU fans? They will be fine if wins come after JB leaves. People outside the program? Don’t care enough to give Syracuse a second thought unless a game is on. We, and most fans, build the university up to be FAR more important to people outside the Syracuse halo than it actually is.
That's fine, we can disagree. I do think it matters. While I believe that $$$ means as much as anything (with NIL), but how people perceive your program does matter to recruits, fans, etc. Also, if you spend any time on this board, you can see firsthand what is happening. There are big time fans of cuse who are becoming apathetic. If you're young, then sure, I can see those fans coming right back with a different product on the floor. However, there are some who are older, who might not be willing. Sometimes it's hard to rekindle passion. Again, in my opinion, this does matter from a Syracuse perspective.

Wow this guy is either dealing w early dementia or we are in the throes of “Jim says things”

Not sure why he did this interview. He’s making things worse for himself, the university, the AD and his legacy

My theory is he has nothing else to do that gets him out of bed during the hoops season. His kids are gone, no grand kids yet. Etc. Prob doesn’t garden and doesn’t want to leave CNY.

This is very very weird.
