Wow this guy is either dealing w early dementia or we are in the throes of “Jim says things”

Not sure why he did this interview. He’s making things worse for himself, the university, the AD and his legacy

My theory is he has nothing else to do that gets him out of bed during the hoops season. His kids are gone, no grand kids yet. Etc. Prob doesn’t garden and doesn’t want to leave CNY.

This is very very weird.
That’s my question too.

And this year? The league stinks. They are not getting all the players they used to. More teams are able to get good
players. That’s the entire point.
Kentucky and Duke both are getting 5 of the top 30 players in the nation.

That’s my question too.

On the media side, the dam has broke. These questions will keep coming, relentlessly. And now the national media is interested.

On JBs side, do you think he thinks he said anything bad? The guy doesn’t care. He thinks it’s his kingdom and there will be no repercussions and he’s telling it like it is.

I seem to remember back in March 2011 after beating St. John’s in the Big East tournament an article where Boeheim said he saw the light at the end of his coaching tunnel soon. And then around 2013 after the Final 4 he said he would have retired then but wanted to stay through the NCAA investigation to get the program through it. Damn how gullible we were to think retirement was an option over 10 years ago!

How much of this is news (by ESPN) for news sake?
I was surprised to see it in my top-5 feed this morning.

I’m sure he loves the game itself. And it seems he craves the praise that comes from doing it well and is maybe still chasing that high?
That's probably true. The early season bad losses must negate that somewhat. When you are basically out of tournament discussion for two entire seasons, you just hope for "next season" I guess.

Just wait for the second retraction story to come out in the next 12-24 hours. Whenever the media calls him out he responds impulsively.

Do you think they are both winning as much as they have though? That is the point. UK fans are not happy with Calipari. They will make a move if he doesn't win next year. He has 3 of the top 4 players. He better win or he will be fired. He's entirely on the hot seat right now with the UK fan base..

Duke has one top 10 player for next year. That's entirely different than signing 3 or 4 top 10 guys like they did under K. I'm not sure why this is such an argument. The one and done teams haven't been very successful in a few years now. The FF with a few exceptions have been dominated by veteran teams.

That, but seems like he is even seeking the credit for “somehow” getting these guys to compete and play close games. He wants credit for losses, while pushing the “everyone else is cheating” narrative.

I think the thought of retiring panics him.
It panics everyone. There are very few people who actively look to retire once they get to 65+. Young people idolize it but they forget when you’re that old, you can’t do most of the things that kept you going on the weekends when you were 25. Going through it with my parents now. Neither want to retire because they don’t know what to do with their day and theyre worried about how they feel now that they have no responsibility and they have lost the social connection that work provides. The weekends are great because we all have to work to get there, once you no longer have to work everyday, the free time loses its shine.

Where has NIL leveled the playing field? I just don’t see it.
You act like getting 5 of the top 30 is a huge drop in recruiting, you got to be kidding.Teams like Bama and Tennessee have been good for a few years and has a lot to do with coaching nit because they are getting all the players that used to go to Duke or Kentucky. There has always been good veteran teams that are tough outs in the tournament and that has nothing to do with NIL.
Nil and transfer portal have absolutely hurt college sports and I can’t be convinced otherwise.

Great post.
Young people have a hard time seeing it that way

It’s clearly leveled the playing field and that’s why the coaches hate it. Players don’t want to wait to play.

Who cares? Perception turns on a dime. All that matters is winning. If JB retires and Syracuse starts winning no one will give a crap what he said. Everyone acts like personalities stain programs, name one single program that has been irreparably harmed by a toxic personality in the 20 years, it just doesn’t exist. JB is a dick, he’s always been a dick, this is nothing new. When he leaves and a new coach is hired, JB will only be remembered for the good times, as happens with almost every coach (expect Durkin and Bryles)

We’re literally just wasting years at this point. Losing generations of fans in the meanwhile. All that matters is winning, you say? Would like to try to start winning again. JB is clearly ok with “playing teams close”. As long as he gets recognized for being the only reason it was close.

When I start seeing Final Fours made up of Colgate,Kent St,Eastern Michigan and Boston College I’ll see your point.
Maybe when I see a football Championship of Syracuse vs Vanderbilt I’ll get back with ya.
