Doug Marrone sighting

Go has a very concise narrative going. Marrone's early struggles were due yo the limitations of inheriting Grob's roster. Marrone's successes were due to Marrone's genius. Marrone's later failings were due to injuries and the still limited roster left by Grob. Marrone's later successes confirmed his genius. Shafer's first season success is due to Marrone's rebuild. Shafer's failure this season is due to McDonald. It couldn't possibly be because maybe Marrone didn't leave us as talent rich as we'd hoped. Get it? I don't think Go is happy we had a bad season, but it's clear that he's ecstatic McDobald flamed out. In a strange way McDonald has become the guardian of Marrone's legacy. Go thinks that because McDonald failed, Marrone's greatness is proven.

I love this post because it feels as if millhouse wrote it...

no. not at all. where did you get that???? im saying he DID NOT get FIRED by the bills. im saying he DID NOT ASK for a MEDICAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE from the bills. im saying his CONTRACT was STILL IN FORCE. now stay with me here... im saying he QUIT his JOB. im saying he QUIT on the bills. im saying he QUIT as an NFL HC.

Saying he quit makes it an emotional thing - I don't think he thinks that way at all. To him it was all a calculated business decision (that backfired). His contract allowed him to do what he did. He thought he was going from a bad position to another NFL HC job.

I could not care less about quitting his job. It may have been a bad decision or maybe he's just glad to be free of the awful situation that the Bills front office has become. What I would like to know Kaiser is your opinion of the job that DM did in his 2 years with the Bills and his 4 years at SU.

I think he basically did the same job in both places.

He took woebegone football teams, raised them to a level of respectability, but quit on them before realizing their (and his) ceiling and for anyone to truly know where his boat sits in the water.

I really don't consider him quitting on the Orange...you take an NFL job, that's a no brainer. Seriously, name a sport who's championship is so big...it has global Rock Stars hoping to be invited to perform for 12 minutes and those who don't get picked, ask those who did, if they can join them for 3?? Win for immortality.

So let's also be clear, he quit on that.

So debating how good he was is like debating how fierce a T-Rex was??

Who cares, they're both extinct.

yeah, that 9th win was very impressive. maybe you didn't see it. The Pats played subs.

Yeah and with a few breaks the Bills win two or more games.

He did a great job.

And he did a great job at SU.

I wish he were our HC right now.

I love that closing argument.

The purpose of the board is to debate.

So I have no problem with discussing whether he quit.

He didn't quit.

He made a strategic decision.

He got bad advice from his agent.

And he will be a HC again soon.

If it wasn't for FHCDM we wouldn't have much to talk about between NSD and Spring practice.

You thought Paul Pasqualoni was a great coach too and he wasn't As far as what I said about Doug pissing people off that is fact. He left very few friends at the university. We will see but I think Scott Shafer is a better coach and a much better person Scott has has had defense right his entire time on the hill. I do give Scott a lot of credit for a lot of Dougs wins. If Lester can be mediocre this can be a very good football team.

You are out of your mind if you don't think P was a great coach.

He's a Syracuse Legend, a Syracuse HOFer and up till taking the storz job, a College HOFer...still may get there.

This nonsense about P must stop, now back todiscussing how marrone is toxic and will NEVER get a NFL HC job again.

Stop! Every team has games that can go either way all year. That is the NFL today. However, a team that has nothing to play for, having already clinched the top seed, is a different animal. And I wouldn't bet the house on him getting a job very soon. They weren't knocking on his door for interviews let alone a job offer. and next year there will be new hot coordinators and college coaches to choose from. His job at syracuse is often overrated. Anyone would have looked better after G-rob. And he was .500 after 4 years. He did it with someone else's qb. He got out while the getting was good for him. And he is the decision maker. Not his agent. He quit his job without having another one lined up.

You don't know how he views it and neither do I. The fact is he quit his job. Really, that is the whole story.

I will never understand the animosity. It's a little like Syracuse.com here whenever HCDM is mentioned.

Really? You will never understand the animosity towards the guy who swore he was in his dream job, then bailed the second he showed the slightest bit of success? Never understand that?

I don't blame Doug for leaving. And I'm pissed that he did. Those are not mutually exclusive things.

By the end of 2012 SU was one of the 25 best teams in the country. Pretty damn good job from starting with the worst. Harbaugh first four years 29-21, same exact record first three years. Four win difference in year four, I wonder if Andrew Luck might have had something to do with that?

So he's Jim Harbaugh now?

And he doesn't get to just wave off the first 5 games of 2012. Those games count.

And he was unwilling participant in his agents madcap plan to quit on the bills and have 2 NFL teams pay him HC $$.

He's Ricky Ricardo to his agent's Lucille Ball.

That's actually really good, because his agent sure has some esplainin' to do.

Looked like a grand slam and turned out to be a double. Whether or not he makes it to home is not up to him.

Warning Track Fly OUT.

Did I say he was Jim Harbaugh?

Record was pretty close for being a mediocre coach though, wasn't it?

Well, I don't call anything with $4 million attached to it a Fly Out.
Most $4 million guys don't fly ou, they pop out.

And please, he could've made HC $$ for years, now he's making OL coach $$$.

He done.

NFL has little use for quitters.

Please go find me saying anywhere that he was a mediocre coach.

I'll wait.
