Are Autry, GMac, Griffen just terrible recruiters? Did Hopkins take all of our recruiting prowess with him ?

Yes we had transfers in Hughes, Gbinije, White, Gillon and Chukwu. Yes the Canadians were probably ranked low. That said , and I have argued the opposite at times in the past, the last year with hop and since are a cliff.

Oof

Our assistants are ok...thats not the main problem. Sure, they're no Troy Weaver/Kenny Payne or even Hop for that matter but they are still decent. I don't know how this is still a conversation that people don't seem to grasp. Our aging head coach doesn't put the time/effort into building relationships with these kids/families that other HEAD COACHES do. Our assistants can have the greatest relationships in the world with these kids but ultimately if they have a good relationship with other programs main guys and not much of one with ours, how do u expect the kids decision to go? Putting it all on your assistants and then swooping in towards the end to try and close the deal doesnt exactly work and honestly is unfair to our assistant coaches.

Name one player Gmac had brought in that you’d consider a passable player.

Yeeeesh. When you see it year-by-year like that, it looks sooooo bad.

Hop ran practices as well. Who runs practices now?

They should probably just do a Teams link up and you guys can coach the team from the chat. We'd be probably 37-0 by now.

I asked who runs practices because I don't know.

Add in the fact that Carey was completely overrated/misjudged (by everyone, not just the Cuse staff), and there’s no doubt recruiting has fallen far from our decades of usual heights. Even if the Canadians, Brissett and Quincy, were a bit underrated because they didn’t have the usual AAU and high school exposure, that’s still a steep drop. We need to get back to landing guys in the top 50 on the regular. We also used to get killer classes like Flynn, Green, Scoop and Jackson semi-regularly.

There isn't really a need to over analyze. Just look at the numbers and the results. It's pretty simple.

We had way too many Recruiting misses or Jury was out or still out with our current roster guys. Joseph and Carey at the PG spot missing on that position twice has really hurt especially with the recruits we could have had instead of them.

I don’t think recruiting fixes things like people think it does. It’s a weird time in college basketball and our ISO system is meh.

Btw Virginia and Texas tech and a few other schools are winning a lot of games with classes even worse than ours. Our player development needs to be better too.

No doubt. It's a combination of things. That said the dearth of talent given our system amplifies the challenge.

Thank God we hit on all our transfers traditional and grad transfers you listed (except Geno Thorpe) plus AG appears to be a hit.

The transfers plugged a few leaks and helped avoid a total disaster ( under .500) unlike what you really want with transfers in this system like a Blackwell or Wes Johnson who push you higher vs keep you from falling.

I’m agreeing with you on the steep drop. Just adding other context about evaluation or development issues with Carey and Joseph, which has compounded matters. And that the Canadians were a bit underrated.
