I know I'm going to get vilified. It was only Wagner, blah blah. And we could very well tank the rest of the season and win 2 games. I get it.

But Hunt has more mobility than Nassib. From what I saw in one game has better pocket awareness. And gives his receivers a chance to catch the ball on both deep balls and on short and intermediate routes. He's going to make mistakes, but he throws a ball that is accurate and catchable.

Nassib no question has a better arm and an ability to fit balls into tight windows against better defenses. And probably had a better grasp of the offense last season. But redshirt sophomore year to redshirt sophomore year, I think Hunt is better than Nassib was. And has a much higher upside as a college QB.

The jury is still out, no question. And it was only one game. But from a natural ability standpoint, I am very excited to see where Hunt can take this team the next three years.

I think that Hunt is better suited for this system than Nassib or Drew ever were. Talent-wise, it's hard to say, but having that extra dimension makes Hunt a really intriguing project going forward.

And you are basing this against a team like wagner?

I love what he did yesterday but good lord it was against a d3 caliber school.

Nassib any day of the week over hunt

I think you are having revisionist history with Nassib as it relates to last year.

His redshirt sophomore year, he was a glorified scout team QB handing the ball off to Delone Carter. And completed 56% of his passes benefitting from playing TWO I-AA teams.

A little premature [IMO] to make this declaration, but I agree with your final point 100%. Hunt appears to have rejuvenated what was shaping up as a lethargic, inept offense. Very excited to see what he can do the rest of the way.

Comparing like years - you have a point. When Nassib got the ball last year with 2 mins to go I felt as confident as watching Eli, knowing that points were coming. Would love for Hunt to master the offense and make reads at the same level of proficiency. If he can, we will have another special QB. Of course only time will tell and after the next two games we should have a much better idea as to his true talent level.

You know who else looked great against Wagner? Joe Clancy, quarterback of Merrimack College, throwing for 309 yards and 4 TDs the week before we played them.

Everyone wants you to be right, but let's just take a deep breath.

Playing well versus Tulane would be another step in the right direction, give me 50-60 yards running, 250 yards passing and NO INTS. I want to see the running game get going more than anything. Lots of these screens are just going to get blown up versus better competition, if we have no balance we are flucked.

BALANCE!!!

we all saw someone who didn't look great against wagner

Allen was 8/11 for 62 yards and a TD. That's pretty efficient (I'm assuming that's who you were referring to).

it's ok. 150 rating. that's pretty good for a season but you gotta do better than that against wagner. nassib even at his worst early in his career used to have much better numbers against bad teams.

i wonder if hunt's performance was a Syracuse record for qb rating in a game for a guy with 15 or more throws

I think a lot of people are excited about this new added dimension of a running QB! All of the SU teams that were really exciting and did well in the last 30 years all had a similar QB's in McNabb, Graves, and McPherson. It's refreshing to see a Cuse QB take off and run the ball with confidence and not get so nervous. I don't know what the future brings for Hunt, I sure do like a multi option QB!

Sure Hunt could be better then Nassib, I would just like to see a larger body of work. We where able to see 3 year solid years out of Nassib. So far we where able to watch one very good game by Hunt. I'm excited to see more out of the kid.

did you see what merrimack did last week?

clancy went 41-71, 6 td, and 1 int. scored 50 points. 608 yards of offense (and lost by 12!)

maybe we got the wrong transfer

Ryan Nassib is the all-time passing leader at Syracuse and an NFL player. The post as its written is assinine. Deserves a C'mon Man!

Re-read the post - it says Hunt as a sophomore is better than Nassib as a sophomore. I don't need to see much to know that.

Hunt vs. Allen is the only meaningful comparison at this point. Compare current players to past ones when their numbers are completely in the books.

Actually the post topic was Hunt > Nassib. That's it. Even if you delve into the post you still state that Hunt has a "much higher upside" than Nassib as a college QB. Once again, Nassib threw for more yards than any QB in Syracuse history and had the single-season passing record in his senior year. Your comparing that to what exactly? One game against Wagner and a mop-up TD against Northwestern? Really?

C'mon man! I know your excited about Hunt but get real. He hasn't even had a start against a real opponent yet and you wanna retire his number. Slow down. These sort of expectations are unrealistic and foolish.

If you really wanna make it interesting i'll put up Nassib's career yardage against Hunt's right now for 2 season football tix the year following Hunt's departure from the program. Details on the tix (section, price) can be worked our privately. I'll even donate mine to a non-profit if I win.

Career yardage is not the measure of who is best. I am not saying Hunt is better (that would be silly at this point) but I like Hunt after his first game better than I liked Nassib after his. Lot's of short-term memories here apparently don't recall that Nassib struggled in many situations. He got better year to year but he was very raw and had lots of flaws his first year. It remains to be seen whether Hunt will be similar, worse, or better.
