I am seriously tired of the SEC...

The underlying theme of this thread is Syracuse football will never be able to get up there. I've been roundly beaten by people who tell me major college football is a non sequitur in New England. Well they have 3 very, very strong coaches over there in Brown, Mora and Hafley plus multiple strong FCS teams, just watch the resurgence happen. This gambit JW is playing better work or Orange football will be left in the dust.
Brown isn’t going to change UMass.
Mora isn’t going to change UConn.
Hafley is getting on the job HC training so if he is successful he will go to another school.

The northeast can’t compete year in year or because the talent isn’t located in the region to sustain it. If the northeast teams go like 5-10 years in a row of competing at the top then maybe they can recruit nationally.

Syracuse football isn’t going away because we can’t win a NC.
Syracuse isn’t UMass they actually have skin in the power football.

You realize there is an insane amount of talent within a 300 mile radius for Georgia and Alabama. Especially Georgia.

Kids want to stay close to home to play college football.
That is why a lot of bad SEC teams get good recruiting classes.
Talent is located down there.
Just like there is a lot of hoops talent in NYC and New England prep schools I wish we got more of.
Thanks. You have any theories about hockey and Canada you want to share?

The demographics in cities across the northeast has changed in the last 30 years. There is a lot of talent to be had and Don Brown is just the guy to go get it. Mora already said he wants to get the Connecticut prep talent as a base for UCONN football.

Eh, outside of Syracuse and the occasional high profile ACC game, the SEC is all I watch when it comes to college football.

It probably helps that I live in SEC country, so everyone I know is a fan of Clemson/FSU/SEC, but the rest of CFB just needs to get better.

ACC is probably closest to the SEC in terms of athletes but is way off when it comes to culture/atmosphere.

B1G has the culture/atmosphere but not the athletes.

Big XII/PAC/G5… haha, no.

I’m genuinely interested in Bama/UGA. They are clearly the two best teams. Not their fault Michigan and Cincinnati, the 3 & 4 teams in the nation, are pathetically mismatched.
Agree with about 98% of what you say here. I'd just substitute the Big 12 for the ACC. The ACC has been a complete embarrassment. They stink. The Big 12 as currently constituted has many more good teams than the ACC but of course the Big 12 will look different in a year or two.

All that people remember are CFP/Championships.

ACC, in the past 10-15 years has had two powers. FSU and Clemson. That drives the conference. It’s why we need someone like Cristobal to turn Miami into a contender so that we’re not relying on Clemson year in, year out to carry the conference. Get FSU rolling again and now we can compete with the SEC.

Of course, we hope Syracuse ruins those plans, but I think we’re all resigned to being a team with a ceiling of Top 25 most years and once in a while competing for a conference title if things break right… ie Dungey’s senior year.

Actually the conference Needs Clemson, Miami, Florida St, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse to get back to being top 15 teams consistently.

Why those teams? If we have six consistent Top 15 teams with 1 or 2 contenders, that’s what the SEC is. It could be Clemson, FSU or Miami and any mix of teams… Pitt, VT, NC State, UNC etc.

I don’t know that I ever see the northern/mid-Atlantic teams being talented enough to compete for National Championships. Mack Brown can recruit at UNC but at some point they need to actually win games. Maybe Pitt if they can start winning the recruiting battles against the B1G.

Yeah but FSU hasn't been relevant for several years now. Obviously Clemson has carried their end of the bargain but over the last couple of seasons the ACC has looked like hot garbage. Very soft on defense, most games within the conference are played in the 40s and 50s. When they step out of conference most of them get annihilated. Bowl performance over the last couple of years has been awful.

I'm not a bull on Cristobal. Very good recruiter, lousy coach. Somehow he's managed to fool many an AD along the way. His in game coaching is atrocious. Obviously he resides in a talent laden area so maybe he can overcome that. I wouldn't bet on it.

I'm much more intrigued with today's games than I am about the NC game. I like matchups between teams that don't typically play each other. That has always been a draw for me with regards to the bowl games and is why the existence of a playoff hasn't changed my interest in bowl games.

Pitt and Syracuse can get back to being top 15, been their before. North Carolina has always been a basketball school, with an occasionally good football team. Same for all the North Carolina schools.

Miami and Fsu yes. VA tech and Pitt does.nothing for the college football world .

UNC had the top ACC football recruiting class during the early signing period.
There were in the top 10.
UNC can and should be a consistent top 25 football team.

They have a way better chance than Syracuse to be good year in year out.

No one has wasted recruiting classes quite like UNC.

This is hot garbage.
NYS is one of the top 10 states population wise but NYS HS FB doesn’t recruit enough talent for us each year.

Umass will be garbage like usual. They lost to Rhode Island this year.

Mora is stealing one last paycheck.
UConn has no conference they will a nonfactor as well.

The northeast will not be a college football power.

I take no pleasure in saying that it’s just using common sense.
Rutgers has enough talent in NJ that if they could get their chit together could come be competitive but that school will never get chit to be good enough.

We need NYS HS FB to product a lot more P5 talent.

Don brown hired 2 of the top high school coaches in Mass. Those guys know every coach in Mass and probably New England personally. Their will be recruiting and dialogue between them and those high school coaches are going to tell their guys they have a chance for a scholly at UMASS. It is going to light a fire inder high school football over there. Also, Bell and Edsall recruited decently but their programs needed more time to develop the young talent. Brown and Mora are going to have personnel to work with and I would expect both of those teams to do well next year. I also expect the Connecticut river rivalry to grow fast and become a valuable asset. These are actual events that are happening.

Rutgers football in nj is a joke. They will never get the elite nj talent. Kids grow up in Ohio dreaming off playing for osu same in sec states. Kids grow up in nj dreaming off playing for osu and sec schools.

Greg Sankey is from Auburn NY with degrees from Cortland State and Syracuse University. HE IS the Commissioner of the SEC since 2015 and has been extended thru 2026. Go figure, a Yankee carpetbagger runs the show.

Lol… discussion about the SEC and we’ve got people worried about UCONN and UMASS. Ok…
We need to focus on northeast football and try to strengthen it instead of acting verklempt about the SEC, which has been my point about UMASS all along.

Why? We don’t even play in a NE league. If we want a guy that one of those JV programs want, we should be able to simply say “come play in the ACC” and that’s that.

Their history is basketball and always will be. They have never, and will never be a consistently good football program.
We have been good and will be again, I've been around a long time, seen the good and bad. The wheel spins and always comes back around. North Carolina is a never was, and never will be.
This is the first time in about 20 years the University has shown they care about football, hiring good coaches makes a big difference at a school like ours.

We can't worry about the sec or umass both are irrelevant to.us. we need to focus on getting as good as wake pitt bc nc State.

Florida, Texas and California as well as many other regions football is great because they have a lot of teams offering a lot of scholarships that makes high school programs and players develop to try to get those scholarships. That's why.
