I feel bad...

Well if his work ethic is as strong as it is, what do you want him to do? He can only do so much to overcome his intrinsic limitations.

Know his own limitations and pass the ball to someone who can shoot.

The world is full of douchebags. When you take on certain roles, you take on knowing those douchebags are scrutinizing you.

I don't disagree, but that doesn't make it right.

That's not the point of the post. I'm not saying he didn't have his faults, and didn't do stupid things. I'm saying I wish some of us would think before saying " 'em glad he's gone!" Those type of posts are what rile me up. Not posts that are truthful and logical. I also am a big proponent of trying to put yourself into someone else's shoes on occasion before acting like a 7th grade girl with boy drama.

Really? It's a frigging internet message board, don't take yourself so seriously and get over your self righteousness. People here don't hate Cooney the person, just his inconsistent play and never coming up clutch when it truly matters as a 3 year starter and 5th year senior, and, for a top tier program we all view SU as. Your rile you up nonsense is comical...

There's anger, and there's irrationality. Some on here use the team, and Cooney in particular as their bludgeon because of latent rage issues. I'm only partly joking there.
Can you give me some examples? The only posts I see here are criticizing his play, nothing irrational about that.

Don't group all fans as acting like a$$holes just because they KNOW Cooney is not a very good player. His best season what his RS season. He actually got worse every year and the stats prove it. He may be a good kid but that doesn't make him a basketball player. I do blame B just as much because he shouldn't even be on the floor. Of course no media will mention that to him because he will cry and say they don't know stuff. Apparently he doesn't either.
That's very true. I don't think Cooney should have been on the court in that last possession. Whose fault is that?

I've defended him for years, but this one is hard. He had no business, based off his history, of taking that shot in that situation. That was a complete fail from JB and him...but it is sad. He had the chance to either change or cement his legacy. He cemented it, and it's not a good one. The three teams where he's gotten major minutes have been major disappointments.
It was his GMac moment and it didn't happen.

Some CRAZY stuff on here recently. The kids gave their all and it likely wasn't good enough to earn a dance bid. It sucks but its sucks for them more than it does for me as a fan. I don't make the sacrifices that these kids make to play (yes...I know they get a free education and likely get all the a@# they could ask for while on campus).

Ultimately the coaches are responsible for the roster. Yes, I've heard all the arguments about early player departures and how it has impacted the program. While that is true it does not absolve them for the recent results we have witnessed. So personally my venom will be directed at the coaching staff and NOT the players.

If you dont get angry, then you arent even a fan.

This isn't true.

I watch every game and go when I can. If we had gone to Providence, I'd be there. If we were in Brooklyn, I'd be there. If we were in Philly, I'd be there. And if we went to Houston, I'd be there. If we make the NIT semis, I'll be there.

I'll put my fandom up against just about anybody's.

I am very disappointed right now because March Madness is my favorite sporting event and it just isn't the same if we aren't in it.

But, I don't get angry. I don't get angry at players. I don't get angry at coaches.

My enjoyment is the journey, regardless of where it ends.

Granted, that enjoyment is much higher when it finishes in Boston (2012) or Atlanta (2013) rather than the NIT or nowhere (2015) but it is still about the journey rather than the destination.

I'm sure nobody really hates the kid. But let's be honest, Cooney was not a very good player. I love his attitude and work ethic, but his game was very lacking. Nothing wrong or mean about that. Just the truth.

He never stopped his habit of drifting to the side whenever he took his shots. That was his biggest problem, and perhaps thinking that he was a better shooter than he turned out to be.

Nah. I'm a fan. I'm not angry. I got angry at the Ohio State and Butler losses cause I thought the games were called unfair. This? Just disappointed and I'm really hoping next year we can turn it around because I fear the program is at a major crossroads

I happen to agree.

The program is at a crossroads.

Expectations are higher for next year. But I don't see it.

We need to fill that 11th scholie with a respectable big man and find a good fifth year senior to replace Joseph if he leaves.

To be fair to TC in that situation, no one was open or even tried to do anything. It looked like a clear out. No one set a screen. No one flashed. They all jogged down the middle of the court in a big uncoached mess.

He had six seconds and we were down by one point. Drive to the rim, get fouled, win the game.

This is mistaken. He's one of our primary ball handlers, and he is a very good foul shooter. He should not have taken a 3 with 6 seconds left. That was his mistake. The mistake was not having him on the floor in the first place. You could say that about the 3 he attempted at the end of the Michigan Final Four game - that he had no business being on the floor or taking that shot - but not on this team. He belonged on the floor. That just wasn't the right shot.

RE Michigan, I thought he was out there because Triche and MCW fouled out. We literally had no one else.

I really don't blame him at all for that game, once those two fouled out, we were in deep. Today on the other hand, as a 5th year senior, I expect more.

Except that we all would have screamed if he drove to the rim because he doesn't make layups.

Who would you have preferred to see on the floor against Michigan at that point? MCW and Triche had fouled out, and he was the third guard.

It's been a while, so I don't clearly remember. But even if Triche and MCW were out of the game, I think you wanted somebody like C.J. Fair taking that shot instead of the rookie. He didn't even come close, if I recall correctly.

Nope, I actually hope for our players to have success. Instead of hoping for failure so I can spout out my anger management issues on a sports forum.
Believe it or not, there are plenty of fans who root for all our players and fully support the team and coaching staff, and don't look to assign blame every time the team comes up short or fails to meet their expectations. Some of them are posting in this thread. Unfortunately, their voices tend to get drowned out, particularly on a day like today.
