...and given how competitive practices seem to be, that we'd see a different level of intensity in games.

Haven't seen it thus far.

Discouraging.

I saw it last night in spurts. first 5-10 minutes of each half. Our press was pretty good. I thought our starting guards were awful in man 2 man. At first i thought scoop was just trying to force the pg one way...but then it just seemed like he couldnt stop him.

I think we have to remember its an exhibition, no crowd, second "game" of the year. dont want to be FF good right now.

practice it still practice no matter who you have, yes it will be more competitive but you still need an actual game to get that real game feel, which is why you play these exhibitions, because you cannot simulate a real game no matter who you have on the bench

...remember starters got off to big lead and then substitutions came in...defense not as good and a bit too much one on one with 2nd tier...everyone trying to show how good they are...

I thought the defensive intensity was there with the guards.

The frequent substitutions don't help the intensity, and I do think the near-exclusive use of a foreign defense (let's be serious, all of our players know that man is a gimmick for Syracuse and this will be the last time - barring a 50-point first half from Seton Hall or someone - they'll play it again this season) contributes to guys playing at three-quarters speed.

Yep. More ammunition for Boeheim in excusing conservative substitution patterns. The second-string guards did a great job extending the lead in the second half, but they also turned something like 19-4 or 19-6 into a very close game in the first half. It can be difficult to maintain intensity with that revolving door of personnel.
