I’m looking forward to the JW era against Tennesse next Labor Day weekend. I’ll be there. Just hope the OL can keep him upright

Spoon ain’t cutting it. Need a portal LT that actually pans out.Need new center and 1 guard. we have depth behind them. Spoon and Washington at tackle and walabough somewhere at guard and mystery guard and center. maybe Hornsby can do it or Mack but we need proven people or Williams will b
e running for life. ALso he should be up Kyles butt learning all the whys and where throws should goto.
Washington still has eligibility? Very interesting.Need new center and 1 guard. we have depth behind them. Spoon and Washington at tackle and walabough somewhere at guard and mystery guard and center. maybe Hornsby can do it or Mack but we need proven people or Williams will b

I don't feel like we've had a lot of misses Fran and crew's first portal cycle.A few years into the transfer portal, it feels like Syracuse and teams in a similar spot have to be really careful with P4 transfers. McCord aside, for every guy like Meeks or Amba who ends up thriving, there are others who maybe shouldn’t be at this level and likely left their previous teams for a reason. Their pedigree or measurables might get them in the door, but sometimes it feels like we’d be better off focusing on proven guys from lower levels or doubling down on high school recruits.
Not trying to call anyone out, but there have been a few players we were all really excited about who just didn’t pan out the way we hoped. The upside with P4 transfers is so tempting, but when it doesn’t work out, it feels like a missed opportunity.
I don’t have the answer—it also seems like the incoming high school class has a lot of “project” players who probably would’ve still been available later in the cycle but It’s going to be interesting to see how Fran and the staff rebuild the roster in the next few years.
That may be the case only sharing what I heard from MD alums. That may be the case but we're still not getting back in with the two kids we have committed.
i swore he was a JR.Washington still has eligibility? Very interesting.
Yeah i thought i saw somewhere where he was Jr. him and Spoon.247Sports said he had 1 year of eligibility left when he committed.
But his profile tells a different story...
2024 at Syracuse: R-Junior.
2023 at Colorado: R-Soph. Played in 10 games
2022 at Kent State: RF. Played in 11 games
2021 at Kent State: Redshirted. Played 1 game
2020 at Kent State: COVID
Heard is a redshirt freshman with no stats last year, think he was always gonna be a player that studied under Wax in order to prepare to play more next season.I don't feel like we've had a lot of misses Fran and crew's first portal cycle.
Nixon - played pretty well, got hurt
Johnson - been fine as a backup given what we've needed there
M. Washington - got hurt
JRS - has been hurt most of the season but seems to be coming in
S. Washington - season long starter, has had some ups and downs but overall a transfer starter is a win, right?
Lewis - has been starting
Hornsby - haven't really seen him yet. Maybe that's a disappointment but not every OL transfer was going to start, maybe is in the mix next year
Hastings - has played, doesn't really stand out
Spoon - starter on the OL, started hot but seems to be playing less than 100%. I struggle calling this situation a disappointment tho
Duce - has started, had some moments and had some struggles but overall has been a plus
Wilson - was playing, got hurt
Miller - haven't seen him yet, maybe that's a disappointment but he's got a lot of eligibility yet. Won't be surprised if he gets in the mix
Diggs - great pickup
Grant - has played a lot and had good moments
Heard - I think this is the first guy so far that seemed like a big impact dude that hasn't done much
McCord - no notes
Zeed - life happens, but when he was playing looked on track to have a really nice year
Meeks - is going to have one of the top ten seasons for receptions in school history so I feel pretty good about this one
The hit rate on these guys was EXTREMELY high.

Nice. Didn't realize he had another year. Thought he was a one year guy.247Sports said he had 1 year of eligibility left when he committed.

He has to have another year left. He was a 2020 class kid. 2020 didn't count for anybody and he redshirted in 2021 only playing in 1 game. That appears to be confirmed on the Kent state roster which is where he played before Colorado. The powers that run the website at SU have him listed as a Senior.
I guess we'll know on Saturday.
He was a Dino get as he was here in 2023. Just got injured in the second game of the season that year. You're missing Wohlabaugh, didn't he come from UK?
MamesJungro
whoops yeah him tooYou're missing Wohlabaugh, didn't he come from UK?

So were CDRW, Davis, Bellamy, Adams & Hayes .. didn't think which coach grabbed him mattered. He was a Dino get as he was here in 2023. Just got injured in the second game of the season that year.
Jondre reed to should be a hit…I could have missed his name but don’t see him on hereBellary
I'm on the world's most boring all-staff call, so I went through the list on ON3 and pulled only the P4 guys. It’s an interesting mix and better than I had expected when looking at the entire thing. Obviously, this goes pre-Fran, but I wanted to take the temp of the portal and how it has evolved. IMO:
Clear Hits
• McCord
• Meeks
• Diggs
• Shrader
• Stonehouse
• Cinco
• Villari
Ok, with a bullet
• Duece – feast or famine with him. Has had a few really unfortunate plays this year
• Lewis – early in the year, had some rough games
• Washington - had some really bad and really good moments
• Zeed
• Ingraham
• Nixon
Misses/Too Early/No Impact
• Marcus Washington
• Hastings
• Heard
• Miller
• Farmer
• Bellamy
• Gould
• Martin
• Davis
• CDRW
• CJ Hayes
• Demarcus Adams
• Oliver
So, it's about 50/50, maybe a little lower. Were they mostly net upgrades vs. who they replaced? Probably
True. I was thinking your reply was in response to the previous post of OiG that was all Fran guys.So were CDRW, Davis, Bellamy, Adams & Hayes .. didn't think which coach grabbed him mattered.
JUCO transfer, so a different category, I guess.Jondre reed to should be a hit…I could have missed his name but don’t see him on here
Well, he did sign up for the Shrine Bowl, and that has just as much risk. There's a difference between being a competitor and being dumb. Jeopardizing a multi million dollar NFL career for a bowl game is dumb
Tackling optional.Well, he did sign up for the Shrine Bowl, and that has just as much risk.
Yeah, mail it in. That sounds like a fun idea. Better yet, just forfeit so we can preserve the year of eligibility for the entire roster. We are going to have to temper expectations a bit given next year's schedule. No sense bringing in high priced transfers for a year when the deck is stacked against us. Save that dry powder to keep your youngsters or to strike the portal in the future when we are only a few guys away from being top of the ACC.
