Jeff Nixon interviews for Texans OC

If true, too bad for Nixon.

Good for us.

But regardless of outcome, evidence that Nixon's capabilities are being noticed by the NFL, and that he is a desirable candidate to jump back to the bigs in the near future.
Good place to be. If our offense steps back too far, we get 2026 with him to right the ship. If our offense performs close to 2024, he gets a promotion (NFL O/C or head coach) and we are likely bowl-eligible/building even bigger momentum.

Also, in terms of moves to head coach, next year will be interesting. FSU is the biggest potential job opening... and they will need to make a bigger splash than to promote a Syracuse coordinator. Wisconsin and Oklahoma are out of our geographic range. Maryland, Virginia, or Virginia Tech are potential landing spots for him where we would have to compete against him for recruiting/actual games.

Ha, I read that and thought, phew! Then I thought, wait, what do you mean he's not your top candidate? Are you dense??

Him getting an interview and not the job is kind of the best case scenario for us. Our coaching positions are clearly upwardly mobile. We get him another year. He gets the interview experience and buzz, but doesn't have to move away from his kids. I think we all know Jeff is going to end up in the NFL sooner or later, maybe this way he can stay in the Northeast. I would love to see him in Philly calling plays for Jalen.

Does anyone know how many coaches buy houses in the area? These guys move around so much, and I couldn't imagine going through that process semi-frequently

Moving and buying a home is work, but it's not as big a deal if you're a.) used to it and b.) make enough to buy a decent home without a mortgage. The cash process (even if the cash was borrowed against a portfolio) is way easier than the full mortgage one, and it leaves you open to buy a second house with your credit if you need to elsewhere before you can sell the first one.

How does this normally work? Did Nixon's people reach out to Houston about the opening or did Houston reach out to Nixon?

Bill Lazor is getting interviewed today, along with Caley. So that makes 5 candidates that should have been interviewed by the end of today.

This article makes it sound like Caley is the favorite.

I read that as Bobby Lazor and thought, "well that's bizarre."

I don't think that has anything to do with it.

You get the call from an NFL team for 2-3X the money... you take that sit-down - period.

But he's got 2 kids in school this year, including his son on the team, who he could really highlight in the offense. He is good enough to warrant being our third down back.

I hope he comes back for 1 more year. Yes, it's selfish. Yes, we might take a step back this year. But I see reasons for him to stay. He's still going to get his opportunity, even if it takes until year 3. In Fran I trust, and these kids they have recruited will be more mature and indoctrinated into the system.

If he didn't want the job he probably wouldn't have interviewed

What does that have to do with him taking the interview?

Even if he plans to stay, you still go and sit down if the NFL calls. That's all I am saying

Chip Kelly leaving Ohio state, hope we don’t have to change the thread title to “Nixon interviewing at Ohio State”
This may indeed be the case. Though Kevin Wilson with Brian Hartline as co-coordinator would be the more likely scenario there.
