Marrone

You think the daily news made all that up and didn't really talk to anyone in the bills organization or other NFL front office people?

That article could have been about SU too.

I thought he was a Lions fan growing up?

I haven't seen much bitterness for Marrone in this thread. Most of us are simply pointing out why Marrone is not the miracle worker that a few posters here think he is.

I think it's funny watching the pro-Marrone contingent ignoring the facts and instead replying with immature generalizations and attacks against a region.
Just curious, what "facts" are the pro-Marrone crowd ignoring? If I've missed something I'd like you to help educate me. Please be specific-
Curtis Martin is disqualified from having an opinion because he has 2 first names.
Fair enough!

Man...that's some good and hard-hitting journalism.

"Many Bills players didn’t like him, according to sources."

Wow! He won't be able to sleep tonight.
Buffalo and syracuse media is better, I agree. Mehta seems like a clown. I just think it's funny that someone complains about Howard Simon then interviews in ny

We finally agree on something when it comes to this particular topic.

It's not hard to find people that liked a coach. The bigger question is why so many in buffalo and Syracuse don't like him or have little respect for him? Why is he such a lightening rod for this stuff?
I actually find that question pretty irrelevant. This is big time college and NFL football we're talking about, where coaches sleep in their offices and don't see their families for weeks at a time. Who cares if a head coach is well liked after the fact-especially by anonymous sources? Does the coach get results without breaking the rules or not is the only relevant question. The rest is just gossip.

As far as I can tell, this is the final word on Marrone (from Mehta's article): “He is the definition of average,” said a Buffalo source.

He might have been a very good position coach but everything considered he was nothing more than an average head coach with SU and an unpleasant, vindictive and even disrespectful one at that, anointed by some as a kind of miracle worker because any competent coach after the Robinson disaster would have appeared to be remarkable in comparison.

Which is why he should not want to go to ny

If so many people don't like DM, why are they so upset when he leaves? Many successful coaches are not liked by the media or some of their players. So what. Mehta didn't like Rex either and campaigned for 2 months to fire him. Who does he want as coach...Belechick isn't interested. He wouldn't like him either.

I'm thrilled he left

I am annoyed at these Andy Kaufman wrestler wannabes that act like little old buffalo couldn't possibly dream of the playoffs

Because "people" in Syracuse and Buffalo pulled power plays on him and when he left they orchestrated a social media campaign to make him the badguy/scapegoat. He could have went Pellini on the SU ADepartment but he didn't want to hurt the team and school , that he LOVES.

That assumes that the anonymously sourced articles are accurate about him being sensitive to the media. Honestly unless the anonymous source is commuting to work with St. Doug how the heck does he know what's on the miracle workers' radio? If you are right and the media actually bothered him enough to be a factor in his opting out of Buffalo then I find it hard to believe a guy who grew up in the Bronx and worked for the Jets previously is itching to come to NY as the big cheese and put up with NY media. #Norwood

Nobody likes Belichek in the media, yet somehow they manage to put up with him in NE.

Who's talking about the media?

You're really reaching now. Pelini didn't know he was being taped.

Of course he is. You would know this if you were a bills fan paying any attention at all. Norwood good one

Mehta is a pr**k with a huge vendetta against Doug. That being said, no way in hell that Marrone can handle NY or Chicago. He is just way too thin skinned. I appreciate him bringing us some respectability but his treatment of many SU alums have been pretty well proven and frankly was shameful. Doug is a good coach and when he lets himself be a good guy, he is just that. Problem is he is his own worst enemy. Insecure I believe

You answered your own question. Amazing so much hate.

He's just a football coach that pointed out what's necessary to play in the sandbox of big time college football. He left SU for whatever reason, we suddenly get the IPF to play catch up, nothing more. I saw the IPF plans at end of year 1. Tell us Bees, where did the money come from all of a sudden to build the IPF? You know as well as I know.

Regarding leaving the Bills. He knew going in that their could be a change in ownership. How many HCs end up getting canned with a change in ownership. You do know his wife is a contract and trial lawyer - smart lady and probably helped write that opt out clause into the contract. He simply said - look we had a winning season first time in a decade, give me a contract extension to show your support and I'll stay, if not I'm not going to stay committed to you. They said no, he said see you later.

The problem with SU and the Bills is the same. Backwards negative thinking! Nothing is ever positive in Upstate NY! The community at large reflects many of the negativity on this Board. Plain and simple for the naysayers who cannot see anything positive no matter what.

He took 2 teams, 1 on the college level and 1 on the NFL level from disastrous years of losing seasons and turned them both around. He is a hot commodity and the 4 teams that are interviewing him now see a hot commodity because they want to turn around their programs. He has proven he can do that. And has proven he can do that in just 2 short years.

Now for Millhouse and other naysayers. Can he take a team to the Super Bowl with the right talent? We don't know that yet. That is the only point that we can agree on. We just don't know yet. If I were a betting man...

And you know Marrone's thought process how? Unless you're St. Doug himself its all rumor and speculation fueled by the backbiting Buffalo media. Yeah, they didn't get along that much is pretty clear but it's a stretch to say much more than that. As for being a Bills fan? I'd rather open up a vein and get it over with than deal with that kind of pain. You're all masochists as far as I'm concerned. Why else do you keep coming back every year?
