Marrone

I think that Doug is a solid CEO and would be better suited as a GM of a team than coach.
I agree with this. If he could ever get his emotions in check. Evidence tells us that strategy and game management are certainly not his strong suits.

Agreed re. strategy and game management. I'm not sure that he has the people skills to be an effective CEO/GM, though.

Yes I do. But if they screw it up, then oh well. My life will go on.

"He" was also a few plays away from going 6-10 again. The Bills were very fortunate to go 9-7 this season, got quite a few breaks - Lions didn't have a kicker, Orton pulls off a miraculous 4th and 22 on the final drive against the Vikings, Jordy Nelson drops an easy touchdown pass from Rodgers, Patriots with nothing to play for, etc. None of which had to do with Marrone's brilliance.

"He was able to win games with one of the worst offenses in the league" - Marrone's incompetence with regard to developing an offensive system was a huge reason why the offense was so bad.

The exact same could be said about 3-4 of their losses. The biggest thing I take away is that the Bills looked like they belonged in most of their games. How many times in the last 10 years can that be said about the Bills? He was a massive upgrade.

Im not a fan of his as a person although he could have been having a bad day when he met with us gosh knows we all do but my Dad went to school with Jim B was in his dorm and really good friends with many of the players on that team. My old man was an athlete as well not Fball. Still he didnt seem to give a about much that day and didnt show much respect. Anyway i think that Doug is an exceptional coach when it comes to being the underdog. He knows how to keep a game close and sticks to his guns ie punting.. I believe he made a mistake in Hack both times as i just dont see much out of him. Still hope that Doug lands the Jets job and does well as again he really did a great job bringing us back from the dead.

The bitterness toward HCDM in this thread is breath taking. Wow. If the Bills are better off without him, why the angst?

I think that the defense of Marrone is amusing. He exercised his right to opt out under his contract, which is fine.

I think that most Bills fans in this thread take issue with the posts that portray Marrone as a miracle worker, just because the Bills went 9-7 this year (in a year in which I believe 10 AFC teams were 9-7 or better), and ignore his overall body of work. He's FAR from irreplaceable, IMO. Personally, I wouldn't have paid attention to Marrone's post-SU career had he not coached the Bills.

I agree with you that he lacks a desirable personality, but he knows football. He rubs many people the wrong way, and that is clearly an issue to many. However, he is greatly respected amongst the highest level of coaches in the NFL. Owners and management are well aware of that, plus he has Jimmy Sexton as his power agent.

At the end of the day, he should work on his employment departures, but such is life.

I highly doubt any Syracuse diehard football fan "wouldn't have paid attention to Marrone's post-SU career had he not coached the Bills". Whether you hate him or love him, you're paying attention to what he's doing. Just my $0.02.

There's a reason this thread has 16 pages and over 530 posts so far. I don't know how many of the posts are from the "Bills-only" fans.

Nah. Wasn't concerned about P, GRob, or Marrone once they left the Hill. The former players, yeah, I pay attention to them, and root for them, unless they're playing the Bills.

I would place you in the minority then. I stand by my statement.

I haven't seen much bitterness for Marrone in this thread. Most of us are simply pointing out why Marrone is not the miracle worker that a few posters here think he is.

I think it's funny watching the pro-Marrone contingent ignoring the facts and instead replying with immature generalizations and attacks against a region.

No there weren't.

4 starters on offense, Nassib, Sales, Pugh and Lemon if you want to credit the last two to Robinson.

Stevens and Cutler on the two deep.

Andy Phillips played specials.

There was one Robinson recruit on the two deep defense, Dan Vaughn back up LB.

8 guys, three of which Marrone chose to keep in his first recruiting class, meaning five actual 5th year seniors on the best team SU had going back to 2001.

Yep, it was all about the stocked cupboard Robinson left.

I was using a word maybe you have used yourself "about" means that I didn't know but was using a rough number. Stating that there were "very few" of Gerg's recruit's left.

Gerg left mostly garbage other than a "dozen or so" guys...there i go again, not actually spending the time to count because i don't care that much to prove the point.

Doug is a former player, he played for coach Mac and in fact played in the miracle win against Nebraska in 1984 as an O-lineman. SU football history didn't start in 2010.

I see your anonymously sourced hit piece on a guy who isn't there to defend himself and raise you one former All Pro Center who played and coached for the guy and wasn't afraid to attach his name to it:

Best regards from the St. Doug fan club. Wide Right Go GMEN

Position coaches are inherently different than a HC. Apples and oranges. Talk to Bills players, not former players of his as a position coach.

You think the daily news made all that up and didn't really talk to anyone in the bills organization or other NFL front office people?

That article could have been about SU too.

Ummm yeah and he also worked for Marrone on his staff in Buffalo, so I think he can offer both perspectives.

Umm, no I just think you have to take an anonymous source for a hit piece article with a big grain of salt. The source could be anyone with an axe to grind and an agenda-especially in an historically dysfunctional organization like the Bills.
