Marrone

Why don't we try apples to apples here instead of muddying the waters.

When you look at -1 to -8 from own 40 to opponents 30, which is analogous, down big or in close is so obviously a different situation I'm surprised you would include them, unless you aren't interested in an honest evaluation and just want to inflate and obfuscate.

4th quarter, 4th and 1, one score game (-1 to -8) between own 40 and opponent 30.

10 plays.

5 on own side of the 50, 4 punts(Cowboys, Jacksonville, Buffalo, Buffalo), Titans went for it down six with 9 left and converted.

Other side of the 50, everyone went for it. Baltimore, Oakland, converted, Dallas (Murray), Seattle (Lynch), TB didn't.
so if you're down 10 in the 4th quarter, you just punt away to keep it close?

i don't have to go check this - no one picks -8 as the number unless that's the one where your hero comes out best.

i just punched in your scenario

between the 40 and 30 the last two years, there are 17 plays that are runs passes or punts on 4th and 1 while trailing in the fourth by 8 or less

marrone punts three times, goes for it zero times.

Everyone else punts twice, goes for it 12 times.

in 2014, marrone punted twice, went for it zero times

everyone else punted twice, went for it 6 times

you should just stop

It means it's a once score game, it's a significant factor.

Wow, Bob Casullo is destroying Marrone's character. Exactly what i said about 20 posts ago. The guy is a complete disgrace as a human being.

"Marrone is the only offensive coach on Atlanta's reported list of coaching candidates" :D

Also interesting to see Teryl Austin's name circulating as a candidate. What did he coach for us while he was here? Was it DB's?

Yes, Teryl Austin was a secondary coach under P.

Casullo on Marrone: Selfish, self-centered,greedy.Other than that, I'll sit here and mind my business

I guess the WNY media doesn't like him either! What a whiner though. "Marrone wasn't trying to win games for the franchise, he was trying to win for Doug Marrone so much so he wouldn't even give Manuel the start in a meaningless season finale at New England."
This has some good stuff too including Polian-related.

I'm pretty sure that Tom Brady started the Buffalo game for NE.

And, in Philly, Chip Kelly started and played Sanchez rather than Barkley in a meaningless game.

Coaches want to win in the NFL and the players do as well. The job is too hard to play a lesser player simply to give the guy some experience.

Since Marrone fired Casullo during the season it's certainly not surprising that he would harbor bad feelings for Doug.

I missed it.

Was Bob Casullo quoted somewhere?

Thanks.

Directly from Casullo himself, live on the radio.

I know all about the blow up between the two. On this one I'm backing Marrone.

Marrone fired him. Have you asked Conley too? I am sure he would give glowing comments.

And has steadily risen up the coaching ranks. Impressive resume. Shame he left because P wanted him to shave his facial hair.

I should stop?

Here are some facts.

9 of 17 between Own 40 and the 50. 6 with 7 or more minutes left. 5 out of 6 punts. 1 out 6 went for it and converted.

3 of 9 with 2 minutes or less left went for it and converted, though one ended up being a lost fumble after the catch.

8 times on the other side of the 50, all went for it. Funny thing, 5 out of 8 failed to convert. Of the three conversions two were QB sneaks and one was a pass by Chicago down by 8 with 1:50 left from the +42.

Of the seven 1st down conversions, 4 were with 2 minutes or less. I wonder if the time left on the clock had anything to do with the outcome?

How about with Conley?

That wasn't any kind of blow up. Just a coaching change for the most part.

"So Mort says Quinn is the lead guy and now Marrone doesn't have much of a chance for the Jets job. Interesting."

Damn...I was hoping that Marrone landed the NYJ job. I really don't want to see Quinn, Bowles or Bevell coaching in the AFCE.

Who knows, Marrone could wind up getting a HC gig in the CFL, and proclaim that it really is his "dream job" because he can punt on 3rd down.

But what about second and short from the 54?

But what about second and short from the 54?

That would call for a Kyle Orton hook slide, or a pass to Lee Smith - either one, short of the chains.
