OC Rumors

The rumor I am hearing is Mike Bobo. Just remember this is rumors
Someone else threw that name out in one of these threads earlier and I think everyone over looked it thinking they were implying Bill O Brien.

That's probably a pretty good get for the situation. Has a lot of name recognition and recruiting ties down south.

Won't be an exciting offense but will be competent. Easier to game plan our schedule vs SEC.

If this OC performs well enough for us to be a stepping stone, I think we will be happy. No?

I’d be fine with that. Never once did I say that was an issue, I was responding to someone who said we don’t want to hire people who view this job as a stepping stone. Who cares, almost all CFB jobs are stepping stones. Clemson just lost their DC.

What would keep morehead here longer than he needs to be if he was successful? He already has proven he can coach in the SEC, cuse would be a stepping stone back the SEC if he was successful.
Not happening.

Moorhead is the HC at Akron. Was hired yesterday.

Believe he’s supposed to be a good recruiter
He recruited a lot of 4 and 5 star players for Georgia.

That said, High Socks Joel could probably land a good class for the Bulldogs recruiting out of his RV. A lot of players, especially from Georgia, dream of being Bulldogs one day.

I'm sure he'd love a change of scenery after that 4 OT loss to bama...
I read his wiki page and laughed at that. Fired from Auburn after a 4 OT loss to Bama! Get out of town, you scalawag! Sounds like they'd rather have any one of N candidates who would have lost the game in regulation.

Bobo has a 3 star OT son who’s committed to Auburn right now.

That is not the desire of the AD.
Yeah I know. But if Dino is truly up against the wall then I have to think he will handle most of the playcalling duties. Maybe he’s willing to gamble and I will be surprised

he would be even more against the wall if he went against the wishes of JW

Mike Bobo isn’t happening. The guy has no connections to Dino.
He isn’t a great coach.

I made a lot of money as a young kid betting on Bobo in a bowl game. I think he set the completion percentage record in that game.

I get this is the rumor thread but he is a SEC hired gun. Maybe would go to a southern AAC/ACC school though.
He isn’t coming up here.

The time to force a system chance was after 2020. If you are giving Dino a win or else ultimatum, you should give him a chance to succeed. A new system with next year's schedule is stacking things against Dino.

I mean he checks the box of what ADJW wants

I really don't get JW's play here. Any decent OC is gonna want a 2 year contract at $500k plus per year. That is a lot of money to invest in a HC who is on the hot seat.

We can kill two birds by raiding the Memphis staff. Kevin Johns can be OC but likely will cost $550k. Then Pete Lembo can be STC but will likely cost $400k.

Edit

Never mind on Lembo he is at South Carolina this year. Figures that a Beamer would want a good STC.

How much would the school pay to replace Dino alone this year and how does it compare to that investment?

SU likely will save around $3M by keeping Dino and paying a new OC. But SU will likely lose money in ticket sales, concessions, and medium/small donations by retaining him. You are also hurting recruiting by keeping him on longer which makes it tougher for the next guy. It will also be harder for SU to reengage with the fanbase due to apathy. Getting those fans back will take longer the longer you wait. All of those opportunity costs IMO are well worth $3M. It is becoming more and more obvious that it is time to rip off the bandaid.

I know, my statement was even if he did come here he would’ve never been a long term hire

I don't hear anything patently unreasonable in what you say, but I think I have finally made peace with the fact that Syracuse University athletics is not now, nor perhaps ever, going to choose to (or be able to) "bite a $3M bullet".

Bill O would be like winning the lottery

If you get rid of TheDino you get rid and have to pay the entire staff. Dumping the guys he did was most likely cost effective. Dino cant even manage the clock so i would be surprised if he bet on himself as an OC. He should be able to find someone from the Hofstras or Colgates of the world that will take the gig. Go young and go with someone who has done well at a lower level vs another Gilbert Retread.
Heck he hired a HS coach to be the QB coach so seriously take a swing at some young gun there are plenty of them out there. Gilbert set the bar so low that we cant do any worse.

My gut feeling (no inside info here) is that the decision to retain Dino was made primarily by the chancellor and the BOT.

Remember that SU has already fired one of their few African-American head coaches in Q just a few months ago.

I suspect the powers that be were concerned over the optics of firing Dino as well so soon after Q was let go. I think they really wanted to give Dino every opportunity to succeed and were willing to take whatever hits retaining Dino might entail.

The twofourseven site had an Illinois analysis on Tommy. Was looking thru the gifs. Had some good and bad.

I was mesmerized by this one. Just watch Tisdale at RG. This is the fumble against Rutgers. Imagine telling the new OC that this was one of the regular rotation OL.
