OC Rumors

Without looking it up, I think Doug was OK in November. His first year prolly wasn't good but he upset ranked Rutgers in November in Dome and year 3 was bad (we went 0-5 after starting 5-2) but I'm thinking he was decent otherwise.
Year three the team was decimated by injury

If we don’t see improvement as a result of changes, next year could be the year Dino does not finish.
Yes, if things go bad, I am guessing he gets dismissed immediately after loss number 7, which eliminates us from bowl contention. That seems to be the ultimatum delivered by JW, bowl or bust.

Let me re-phrase… how will you know at the time of hiring that it’s a “slam-dunk” hire.
I guess we won’t. We’ll know by this time next year if Dino still has a head coaching job.

Dino needs to call the offense and hire QB/TE/WR coaches for support. Dino’s forte are his offensive skills (we think) vs. game management and recruiting so let’s see what he has moving forward. Dino does look lost on the sidelines so this may invigorate him.

And that is part of the problem. The only way SU is getting a good head coach is by catching lightning in a bottle. They won’t take a head coach with any baggage or come close to outbidding most P5 schools for a coach in demand.
Good, SU shouldn't be taking a head coach with baggage, especially that of the legal variety.

I think we need to come to grips with the fact that Dino going into his last licks season means it's not going home run hire.

If we do “pound the portal” and bring in around 10 JUCO guys or grad students moving up from a G5 school, I think this team could still win 6 next year.

I think Shrader did great for about 3 games but then he got hurt, which hindered his throwing. I remain cautiously optimistic.

With a good OC hire to go with the already good special teams hire, I think we could be better next year.

We might as well put Dino up in the booth, because these last couple years, he has zero presence on the sidelines. Let the OC call his own game.

Why fire someone in season? Unless we lose our first 5 or 6 games, I think you should wait until the season is over.

He’s going to have a fun time trying to convince someone to leave their home(assuming its a guy currently employed) to move up to New York for maybe one season.
So you are probably correct in saying it will not be a home run hire because why would anyone worth their salt put themselves in that situation.

Man this is really depressing when you start thinking about the predicament we are in.

Who says that hiring someone without a job is an automatic disaster? There are good coaches on bad teams.

Yep, if Dino gets fired next year, for example, does that mean Tony White and Nick Monroe are now stiffs?

I guess we’ll fine out at some point. Hopefully sooner than later. We still have to hire TE/WR/DL as well. Hopefully they’ll all be great hires, but I’m not holding my breath.

Swag Daddy, the great attractor; gotta love him!

Only 2 assistant positions open with special teams filled and waiting on OC. Need a wr and DL coach. White can coach DL and then we could get a wr and te coach.

The main advantage to me is if you want to get a glimpse of the team under TW.

I’d like to see what Shrader can do with a healthy OL, and some quality, experienced receivers.
Me too. I love this kid as he has everything you want in a QB and leader. His passing needs work but he came into a new situation didnt start and came in a few games into the gig. He won games that tommy couldnt he lead the team and he was injured. I think he lights it up next year.

Agreed with one major caveat. His buyout may drop after a certain date. If that is the case SU will keep him until the buyout is reduced. My sense is that it doesnt and Dino would get the full season and most likely be let go after the last game

Precisely! There are at least 2 or 3 good guys on every coaching staff, IMO.

Former NFL QB Brad Johnson should be the target. Bring a QB and TE

Ken Dorsey? Idk is that a weird one? Been a QB coach for awhile in NFL and passing game coordinator with Bills.

When did JW issue this ultimatum??? I watched the press conference after the season and I didn’t hear that at all - maybe I missed it but I get the feeling this is mostly fan driven wishful thinking

November is usually when you play conference opponents. Easy to rack up wins in September and October when you play nonconfrence opponents like the MAC and D1AA. We haven’t been close to good enough against peer schools.
Could it have more to do with our historic lack of depth? Injuries to starters by November with no backups close less equal to their performance seems to me to be repeated every year.
