"I go to the Hall of fame classic every year. I have seen all of the big time coaches there. Cal. Huggy, Jay wright.
But not JB. He isn't getting up on a Sunday morning and going to Spfd or any other place to see a recruit. But the guys we are competing against, they are".

100% this is a major problem. And sending GMac or Red to go up against high profile head coaches is never going to get it done. There is no substitute for a young(er) HC with fire in the belly. And it just isn't there at 77 anywhere near what it was in his 40's. And that is perfectly normal.

That's one of my favorite JFK quotes, along with...
1. "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country", and
2. "I get a migraine headache if I don't get a strange piece of A every day."
So that’s why I’m getting migraines… huh… how to break this news to the wife?

You need to take care of your knee or are you going the physical therapy route?
Miss you on the site.

Mine is, "Ich bin ein berliner."

He didn't realize he called himself a jelly donut.

Good to see you Dash.

In light of plenty of posts with much greater detail- I sum up our world as SU fans (or maybe just mine) generally.

My buddy at work is a Providence grad. They had a top 10 match-up with Nova and couldn't get the win as Nova stayed just out of reach. He spent all night not sleeping and miserable as we have done many a time in a big game over the years despite having a great record in ranking .

That feeling has come a few times since 2016. Mostly end of season and in our two sweet 16 runs. It has withered away mostly in the regular season. I watch, we win - good night . I watch - we lose and oh well we aren't very good anyways. Apathy, complacent with current mediocrity on the shoulders of past success or whatever else you want to call it. Either way it just sucks.

Without blame or names being mentioned the state of the program resides in that sentiment to me and I would assume few would admit to liking it. I had optimism and hope this year. It slowly was destroyed with injury news being the final nail.

That's a name that absolutely never comes up, but a really interesting one. He's an excellent coach and still pretty young (54). I would take him in a second. He's been successful everywhere he's been.
Doubt he ever comes back. He quit coaching due to health issues and his inability to travel. He now works for Mike Woodson at Indiana in the AD.

I refuse to believe it

Ah, I forgot about the health issue part. Was it ever disclosed what it was or did he keep it private?

Normal yes, acceptable no. That is the problem - if you are on the job you have to do the job. If not... to quote the great Stand and Deliver".....have a good day.

Its been like this for years. Jim hasnt put in a true grind in over 10 years

Did we not have good classes early last decade until about 2015? Seems like your math my be suspect.

Upstate NY isn't what it was when I was growing up. They've even managed to screw up Oneida Lake. I can barely stand to think about it.
How did they screw up Oneida lake?

You are correct. We did have a good class and i believe this year's class is decent. My point wasn't about the quality of the classes even though they are nothing like they used to be. I was simply stating a fact. Jim has not been putting the effort into recruiting. When Hop was here, he carried the load. Gmac has not been able to replicate anywhere near the recruiting success that Hop had. Not even close. Red has always been steady, and Griff pulls in good kids but they some haven't made campus and others have transferred out.
The bottom line is JB doesn't put the effort into recruiting that he should, and he hasn't for a very long time.

That's a good way to summarize it.

There was a time when JB got virtually no criticism, save for a handful of posters with agendas / axes to grind. And the results did a lot to quell the detractors, even in seasons where we weren't top 10.

This year, there has been a tangible shift in the attitude of the board toward JB. Not in a disrespectful way, but in an "enough is enough" way. Both because the results have now been a trend of being consistently subpar over an extended span of many years, and because people are ready for change. They're tired of the program being held hostage, and not fulfilling it's potential because an admittedly iconic coach has hung on too long.

All good things must come to an end, and we've lapsed well into Bobby Bowden territory at this point.

Agreed. One could argue we spend way too much time in root cause analysis mode paired with "how we must fix it" mode which both ultimately point to coaching but that to me still rolls up to the simplicity of where we are as a fanbase with the program. Apathy/casual interest after 40 plus years of rabid interest and commitment eventually has a financial impact. Luckily there is still enough of us who were all in for more years than the current stretch so there is time to reignite this thing.
