Mark Few? people seriously mention him on here? talk about shooting for the moon, lol
I was intrigued at the comment about Brad Stevens... He only made $3.6 million for the Celtics. I wonder if he has a huge buyout as an executive that would be prohibitive?

Dash, you say this place is toxic. That's pretty harsh considering the circumstances. Maybe, in your case, it's not wanting to be reminded of the problems and grievances facing the program because that's what you'll get when you stop by. I think we all - to an extent - reach a point where we don't want to be surrounded by constant pessimism. But many DO take comfort in shared misery because it reminds them that we are not alone in this struggle. Outside of this forum I have nobody to share this grief and depression with, save for texting a couple family members. This place serves a purpose in good times and bad. Nobody is really kicking the players at this point. It's all on the coaching staff and higher up to get this fixed.
Well said and a response similar to what I was thinking. If it's toxic to the OP, then that's unfortunate and he should stop posting here for his own mental health. He should also perhaps think about taking things a bit lighter, as this isn't really all that serious - it's college basketball. In any case, I've enjoyed the hell out of this board over the years. Yeah, some posters annoy me, and when they really get to me, I check out for some time. This is the internet.

Talent wins. How is he blind to this on his own team?
I'm not sure if JB is "blind" to the things you mention as much as he has just gradually habituated to all the success he has had doing things his way. I think a part of what we are seeing is his belief that he can and should and will recruit and play only the players he wants to play, for as many minutes as he wants to play them and still "win." Right or wrong, I would guess that he feels justified by the success he has had with the improbable tournament runs doing things his way.

With age, I think he has hardened in the mindset that he no longer needs to chase high-end recruits and tend to their egos or worry about trying to keep a full roster happy, the media happy or the fans. He is going to keep doing things his way until there is convincing, tangible evidence like losing seasonS and maybe then he will retire because the game and circumstances have changed too much and not because HE failed to adapt.

To be clear, I am not saying I agree with any of that. I see it more as the Boiling Frog metaphor.

Nice post. My only response is I am just tired of the Joe and Buddy backcourt. Just like I got tired of the Tyus and Frank backcourt. Basketball is most entertaining when a team plays a PG that orchestrates an offensive plan. We haven't had that in a while. Hard to be successful when you always have to compensate for not having a key ingredient.

Add in that most years we also haven't had a center who scores. We play 4 on 5 most years.

You cant win without a PG its that simple.

Oneida lake use to be thick pee soup half the summer in the 80’s and 90’s. It is much clearer now than it’s ever been. Ya they still get a few algae blooms each year but nothing like it use to be.
Phosphorous control and zebra mussels.

Zebra mussels are all but dead. The lake is littered with the shells of them but the rocks are almost completely clear of them. 5 or 10 years ago you couldn’t pull a big rock out of the lake without zebra mussels completely covering the rock. Not sure why. I’ll have to ask the smart people at Cornell. They have a Biological field station at Shackleton Point about a half mile from my house.

For most of the first 40 years 19 or less wins was a terrible year.
Now we make excuses, we had a great tournament run, when we barely got in.
We used to expect to contend for league championships, and maybe a good run in the Big dance.

Correct, which is why there is so much frustration from Cuse fans. The excuses, particularly the last two years, are really wearing me out. That said, I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game.

I'm not sure if you recall, but last year the program had 2 extends breaks due to covid protocol as well as Buddy missed several games and Jesse couldn't get back from Holland t o practice with the team until the season almost started. This year the portal opened and some guys who would have normally stayed, and who the coaches thought were staying, left because it became the thing to do across the country. Those FACTS, set both years team development back. Last year the team solidified late in the season and became pretty good. This year things were really looking great until the Jesse injury.

A 500 record, giving up 100 to Gate, losing to Pitt
Things were really looking great... seriously.

The early part of the season was a struggle, in part because of so many new players and in part because of a tough schedule. If Jesse hadn't been injured, I believe they would have won at VT and won the next 2 and be in 3rd or 4th place in conference standings. I also don't think ND, Duke, UNC and miami look like unbeatable teams, maybe the Orange would have won the conference or at least be the hottest team to end the season. I do think Frank and Bourama could be pretty close to the output of Jesse and Frank, so we'll see how they play today.

Jim Boeheim preseason said this team would be really good because it was experienced and older than an NBA teams starting lineup.
He said the team spent all offseason workin together.

What you use as an excuse goes completely against what the HC said.

The schedule was not insane. We played in a holiday tournament we normally do.
We played a terrible PAC-12 team, midmajor we should have beat and then a challenging game against the #2 team in the country.

Georgetown and Indiana are normal nonconference games all P5 play.

We chose to play Villanova in MSG because the HC liked our team.

We didn’t over schedule.
We played a good nonconference schedule a decent to good Syracuse team could have handled.

These are the same type issues that every single program in the country dealt with. Same conditions for everybody.

Why was Syracuse so unlucky in the transfer department? Just coincidence?
