Let's start with this notion that Mark Few would come here. First, I would love it. But the question that should always be
asked on almost every question is why? Not who? Not when. Not where. Why? Can anyone come up with one good
reason that Few would want to come here? Money? I doubt we can match Gonzaga. So, it wouldn't be for money.
Improving his living conditions for him and his family. The guy loves to fish. I have never heard that he loves to be
drowned in snow. Go to a better program? We aren't. Go to a better league? Yeah. But so what. If he wanted
that he could just go to the Pac. So why would he leave a place he is a God and come here and replace a legend?
Who would give all that he has up and come here? I don't believe for a second that Few would leave the Zags for the Cuse..
Sign me up if he would. But once again..that pesky why.
What do we want for next year? I want it all. I want Buddy back. Of course. I can't believe there is a question. And if he
had a different last name, there wouldn't be. For all of the Joe moves to the 2, yeah, that means he gets the 6-5 guy that
currently guards Buddy. Big trouble. I think it is a fair point to be worried that JB will play Joe and Buddy in to the
ground if they both are back. I wish he wouldn't but the idea that we will be better without him than with him, is to me, crazy.
We have no idea what this kid Judah will look like playing D-1. Some had Benny going one and done. And lets save the I wish
we had Woody as well. He has done less than nothing with Oklahoma St. And unlike a lot of you, I actually went and watched
Bunch play. He scored a whopping 2 pts in a high school game. Worse yet, I'm 66 and have a bad knee and I really don't believe
he could stay in front of me when he is on defense. He has a nice looking stroke and he does block shots coming from
the weak side. good player down the road. not next year. And I think currently, he is the best recruit we have.
I want Cole back as well. and a real athletic and good forward from the portal. He will be out there and we have to get him.
A guy like that, with Mintz will change our outlook. Jesse and Frank gives us a great 1 2 punch in the middle.
JB is a hall of famer at what he does for a living. That is more than all of the rest of us with what we do for a living. Keep that
in mind when you question his coaching. I guess Mike Waters can match that. Having said that, he should retire. JB, not Waters. Once again,
the question why? because I go to the Hall of fame classic every year. I have seen all of the big time coaches there. Cal. Huggy, Jay wright.
But not JB. He isn't getting up on a Sunday morning and going to Spfd or any other place to see a recruit. but the guys we are
competing against, they are. I'm 66 this year. And I am not the same guy that I was at 63. We need an aggressive guy that is
everywhere. That has the fire that JB did when I was in school. He has stayed too long and it hasn't served him or the school well.
I don't post here anymore. The place is toxic. On a private board I am on, a player on our team was called useless. And only one person
(general) agreed that it was out of line. JFK said that victory has a thousand fathers and defeat is an orphan. No place more true than
on a fan message board.
Dasher, I hope you keep posting here. This place is strong because of the quality of its posters. You're one of those that adds depth to the discussions and debates. There are many here that rely on you and others that provide insight into the program, the various sports, and the players/coaches involved. While there are a lot of posters that are overwhelmed by their passions and post an endless stream of H0T Takes, there are many people here that truly add value, like yourself. Thanks for posting here...

Can anyone imagine what the KU, UK, Duke or UNC boards would look like if they hadn't been ranked in the conference season for 8 seasons and only had a handful of bubble teams?

I think we're pretty tame and certainly not toxic.
The Texas A&M football board is worse after 1 unexpected loss then this board is after 8 mediocre seasons. Those people are insane people of course but this board is charmin soft.

In part because the expectations for the program have slipped several notches for a significant portion of the fanbase, that has gradually come to accept mediocrity.

And it shows, given the viewpoints expressed about what is required to right the ship.

Nice post Dash. Common sense. Don’t eee a lot of that here any longer.

Hope your knee is doing better.

Edit:

Regarding who might replace JB someday….

At one point I was sure it was going to be one of the current assistants.

But a couple of things have happened that make it less likely in my mind.

1) the performance of the program has deteriorated significantly. Alarmingly. Staying the course doesn’t look like a very good option as time progresses and things continue to worsen.
2) JW has shown an ability to convince the powers that be that it is okay to pay for high end coaching talent. We repeatedly went out of character bringing in well qualified high priced assistant coaches, regarding from Liggy, to Anae, Beck and even Johnson. Maybe it was a one time thing we will never see the likes of again. But I think it signals a fresh new approach to addressing problems with our revenue programs and I expect John will again do things no SUAD has done in my lifetime when it comes time to replace JAB. And hire a proven, experienced, well qualified HC.

Now if this experiment to greatly increase the payroll for the assistant coaching staff for football doesn’t work, maybe the BOT and the chancellor will be less enthusiastic to a ‘throwing dollars at it’ approach to hiring a new hoops HC. Hoping it works out for football and we use the same approach for hoops. That would be awesome.
Nice post. My only response is I am just tired of the Joe and Buddy backcourt. Just like I got tired of the Tyus and Frank backcourt. Basketball is most entertaining when a team plays a PG that orchestrates an offensive plan. We haven't had that in a while. Hard to be successful when you always have to compensate for not having a key ingredient.

Bluemoon, right? That might work. Offer him a lifetime supply.

Pretty sure he can get that out at Onondaga Lake…….there may even be some still bottled in the lake. Couple Heid’s Dogs or Conies to go with it…..how could he possibly say “No”?

Sposed to be a response to Dash, But Tom's post was nice too!

Dash, you say this place is toxic. That's pretty harsh considering the circumstances. Maybe, in your case, it's not wanting to be reminded of the problems and grievances facing the program because that's what you'll get when you stop by. I think we all - to an extent - reach a point where we don't want to be surrounded by constant pessimism. But many DO take comfort in shared misery because it reminds them that we are not alone in this struggle. Outside of this forum I have nobody to share this grief and depression with, save for texting a couple family members. This place serves a purpose in good times and bad. Nobody is really kicking the players at this point. It's all on the coaching staff and higher up to get this fixed.

The triumphant return of Dasher! By the sounds of it, maybe for just a brief shining moment…but well worth the wait.

It's amazing how many perspectives are at play here. It's a testament to the breadth of the SU fan base. I was the most manic from the mid 1970s to 1987. The loss in the 1987 basketball national championship game changed my perspective. It still hurts. I had to back off a bit but find that we had long periods of competency and really enjoyed those eras, in several sports.

I take a longer view now, watching the direction of the various programs as much as specific games. Trends take time to unfold. I like the direction of football, men's lacrosse, and the women's programs. There is much to like. Men's basketball is under duress with a transition relatively soon to come. I've loved the Boeheim era but we all know that the end is coming. I hope it's a graceful exit.

I see the end in a lot of ways, with sadness at the end of Boeheim's long career, happiness that he got to coach his kids, positive memories of many great games and tournaments that he treated us to, positive thoughts about the beginning of a new era, and frustration with the negative impact of the change on our near & mid term outlook. All we can do is support the program and let things unfold. JB is a very bright human. Wildhack is too. They certainly have to see the need for an exit strategy. I'm thinking we'll hear about it sooner than later...not that many games left to the season...

Dasher is right.
It is too negative.

I have contributed but I am fair in what i say. It’s time for change is my position. Don’t want more of the same.

This isn’t directed at you at all. The criticism gets close sometimes to over line. I do think a big issue also is something people can figure out without being said.

Dasher can speak for himself but I think he knows what i am saying with that.

Until JB retires I don’t expect much change on a season by season basis.

Just try to sneak into the tournament and then hope to go on a run.

No, it's not.

That it’s too negative.
I think some stuff is negative.
I think Jim Boeheim deserves a lot of respect but his mouth and what he says causes problems.

He is his own press secretary. There is a reason press secretaries handle the media so the person at top doesn’t say stuff.

JB doesn’t have a filter and that is a problem.
I think how stuff gets deleted or locked isn’t consistent but that is an issue that can’t be debated. The moderator who responded to you is one of the best. That issue is something that can’t be debated.

That issue causes some backlash.
If JB had a filter I think mors people would feel bad for him and lay off.
When someone is aggressive and not willingly to show a soft side they get the sandpaper reaction.

Dasher can speak for himself but I would understand if I were his age and I have had a lifetime of winning of the old school position of loyalty first watch what you say.

I think generation X, my stupid millennial generation and generation Z are a lot less loyal and patience than previous generations.

That is the difference.

I think is 100% accurate, imo. I know I read a post how sad it is to think that the only team with his two sons might be the only losing team in recent history and it kind of got to me. As crummy as watching these games are, this REALLY sucks for him and even more for Jimmy specifically (and granted, it's his fault ultimately).

I think he's been much, much better in pressers of late, fwiw.

Good to see you Dash.

In light of plenty of posts with much greater detail- I sum up our world as SU fans (or maybe just mine) generally.

My buddy at work is a Providence grad. They had a top 10 match-up with Nova and couldn't get the win as Nova stayed just out of reach. He spent all night not sleeping and miserable as we have done many a time in a big game over the years despite having a great record in ranking .

That feeling has come a few times since 2016. Mostly end of season and in our two sweet 16 runs. It has withered away mostly in the regular season. I watch, we win - good night . I watch - we lose and oh well we aren't very good anyways. Apathy, complacent with current mediocrity on the shoulders of past success or whatever else you want to call it. Either way it just sucks.

Without blame or names being mentioned the state of the program resides in that sentiment to me and I would assume few would admit to liking it. I had optimism and hope this year. It slowly was destroyed with injury news being the final nail.
For many years I was like your Providence friend, similar I’m sure to many on this board. And now it is apathy, again like you and many on this board. I haven’t yelled at my TV during an SU game in many years, and it’s not because I’ve matured!!

I think there has been patience. Trajectory has been pointing down for some time and started to get messy 3 or 4 years ago and then last year sort of reached a point where it seems most people decided to choose a side between support JB no matter what or wanting whats best for the program. Seems like it's been a gradual thing to where it started with maybe 10% of the board being weary of what was going on and grew to about 50% last year and now this year the bottom fell out and everyone except the most hardcore true believers have reached the point where we just want this down slope to end even if it means another mediocre year or 2 in transition.

JB watches college basketball unlike many coaches.
I don’t get how he can watch as much as he does and then see his team and doesn’t change.

That is why it’s not unfair to say he wants to win but isn’t all-in.

We lack a lot of what it takes to compete with the best teams.

JB watches all the teams.

Talent wins. How is he blind to this on his own team?
