Exactly. That is all we are doing. We have no real answers. I don't. Just a lot of complaining about what is.
If you are in a position of authority, it is a whole different game. We should have hired outside the program. But that was then. Here we are. I don't believe we can fire Red because I don't believe we have anywhere near the money to even fire him. Let alone hire someone good. I hope I am wrong.
Not sure if anyone else brought this up but what about forcing his hand on his staff? Could we allocate more money for assistants and require him to replace at least two, or maybe the whole crew?
Maybe Red is a decent CEO but needs X’s and O’s help? Not unheard of.
My biggest concern with Red is the guys he’s had a chance to watch play and practice intimately and chosen to feature or at least keep around:
JJ (good kid, talented athlete, not a star basketball player)
Benny — actively brought him back after two miserable, tumultuous seasons.
Bell — I’ve been impressed with his improvement in certain areas this year (working harder on defense, moving a bit more on offense) but, let’s face it, it has not worked out.
Taylor — bringing him back last year was odd to me. Just didn’t feel like a winning player at an ACC level at any point in two full seasons.
That crew is puzzling to me. You can give Red some credit for Judah (yes, people hate the kid, but at least a very talented hoops player) and retaining Brown and Q for a second year. That I like. But, man, building around JJ and Bell with a big NIL deal for Lampkin felt strange to me all summer. It feels worse now.
But, anyway, maybe the assistants are gone and we try to bring in a new crew to support red at the top?
