Say what you will about the game at MetLife ...

IMO, his would be one of the most shocking wins we've had in the last decade, right up there with the 'ville win under Grob.
I wouldn't be shocked at all, Nd has beaten 3 crap teams and we have looked good at times and terrible at times. Were absolutely the underdog...but shocking ...not at all.

I call a spade a spade. If somebody want to spread a message that easily countered then I will counter it so a false narrative isn't repeated. Metlife has nothing to do with the attention we are getting its Notre Dame on an ESPN/ABC platform.

I guess, whatever makes you "happy"

I think we have much more of a brand then certain schools who have pulled off big wins recently (BC over USC). The Syracuse brand has sizzle and if we could just provide some of these top recruits a reason to come here beyond 6-7 wins, crappy bowl game and annual beatdowns by Top 10 teams, I think our recruiting could really, really pick up. Win some of these games and the Ishaq's/Holley's of the world will give us a much harder look.

Exposure cuts both ways. If we lay an egg tomorrow night in prime time that will simply reinforce the current perception of the program. Really need to make this a game.

I think we played well and got trained by FSU, Clemson much closer than the score, GT was just a poort effort.. I dont think we can play well and get blasted by ND it may well be a 2 score loss but not worse unless we lay an egg. teams like Baylor/oregon/FSU you could do a ton of stuff right and get drilled anyway.

And I will counter that we are not playing at prime time on an ESPN/ABC platform if we don't agree to play ND in Met Life in the first place.

Because without the stadium and access to NYC/NJ there's no game at all.

And if it had played out that way, there would be no attention either.

Chicken and Egg.

It's your move.

If we didn't sign the original Metlife deal with Notre Dame you realize we would be playing Notre Dame atleast one time between 2014 and 2016 like every other ACC team correct?

The game would have either been at the Dome or wherever ND wanted it played. If the game was the Dome ABC/ESPN will put it at night because as I already said since 2009 every Notre Dame game ESPN/ABC has controlled with the exception one game has been put at night.

I mean your point isn't exactly hard to counter. Metlife Stadium HAS NOTHING to do with this game being at night. When Notre Dame visited Wake Forest in 2011 the game was controlled by ESPN/ABC they put that game on night. it has nothing to do with Wake Forest it has everything to do with the fact ESPN wants ND on at night for ratings. How is this hard to understand?

Interesting article in the PS with Giasante regarding this topic. I don't know why I read the comments on there but so many complaints about how this hurts the local fanbase WHEN THE LOCAL FAN BASE DOESNT GO TO GAMES.

That and they don't get the financials: we made out in the deal - and even if you were selling out the dome: you do this deal. It's too much money.

Good for Carlson. Giansante is so full of BS- what a terrible PR person. He had no response for the Wake question after saying ND wasn't going to come to the Dome, and then he gives us this gem "That attention alone is worth $10 to $15 million and we're not even calculating that."

Again, it's a good financial deal for SU, but this clown is a straight up liar.

Literally the first answer out of Giansante made me laugh.
So why are you getting ready to play a Syracuse home game 4 hours away?

Giansante: First of all, this isn't a home game that was moved to New York. These games are not games that could happen without the MetLife deal. Notre Dame isn't going on the road for games often at all. We're very fortunate that it worked out. They're playing Purdue in Indianapolis, Navy in Dublin and Arizona State in Texas. With the College Football Playoff coming, and the importance of strength of schedule, we have a chance to play LSU home-and-home. With the ACC, we have Florida State and Clemson coming to the Dome. We have ACC television dollars. The move to the ACC changed things a lot. We didn't have any of that before.

Newflash to Mr. Giansante if we never agreed to this deal in the first place Notre Dame by contract would have been forced to eventually play a game @ syracuse. Also, the games ARE Syracuse home games in lieu of them being at the Dome Syracuse sold the home games to Metlife. ESPN/ABC controls ACC home games and NBC controls ND home games and the game is on ABC.

I saw an advertisement when I signed on to Yahoo today for the game. I also heard a commercial on ESPN radio in NYC yesterday. This may be the most publicity an SU football game has received in a while. It has nothing to do with the ND game but that Syracuse sign in Yankee Stadium has even been on TV a lot recently too.

I came here to pretty much say the same thing. If we don't agree to play ND here, then they are playing someone else at Metlife on ABC tomorrow night.

And how was the Athletic Department supposed to know that ND would be part of the ACC back when they signed the deal? They made decisions based on the facts at that moment. SU was in the Big East looking for additional revenue to stay afloat.

They didn't, but Wake got a home and home before the ACC deal. The lying is what annoys me. Just say that the MetLife deal was due to SU Athletics desperately needing $, stop trying to make up other stuff.

I would like to who then? Notre Dame committed 5 annual games to the ACC each year. Notre Dame already played its Shamrrock game in Indianapolis against Purdue.

Rutgers and UConn both declined playing Notre Dame at Metlife.

Wow you mean I am not the only person who is being objective and not just pro-SU in analyzing.

We signed the MetLife deal in 2009.

We weren't offered ACC membership until 2011.

ND didn't agree to a scheduling arrangement with the ACC until last year.

Ironic that someone who's as concerned with "false narratives" as you are would continue to attack the university for a decision that was made years prior to the ND/ACC scheduling agreement.

Just like you continue to spread the narrative that SU has only a "1 in 7" chance of ever getting a game with Notre Dame in Syracuse ... in spite of the fact that Gross went on record the other day saying that ND will play in Syracuse between now and 2025.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your Anti-ND/Anti-Gross obsession.

Wait - what did he lie about? He deflected like any person who didn't want to answer the question. He's right about the free advertising though. ESPN has been blasting this game and Hunt has been on prime time all week. We couldn't afford that kind of publicity.

Just out of curiosity .. how much would it have cost SU to buy its' way out of the MetLife deal with ND?

I'd think the buyout would be pretty expensive since we were in line for a $5 mil payday.

He lied about ND not doing home and home deals.

I'm not saying SU should buy out of this game at all. It's a great financial deal, but the rationale for playing doesn't go beyond the check.

Have you read the questions I have wanted to be answered. Among them have been after the ND announced the 5 game ACC annual games did Gross try to have the SU home games moved back. Gross or the SU AD office still haven't answered this question.

Probably because the $$ matters more to them than the game being in the Dome.

He lied about ND not doing home and home deals.

He said that they couldn't get a home and home and that he couldn't give the details into the WF/ND agreement - since it was between them. Not a lie. Incompetence? Maybe.

Read between the lines, man. They did. Both parties make more money than a typical deal. Why would Gross/SU and ND want to move it if everyone is making significantly more money???!!!

We know why you would move the deal - so you get another home game to watch. But think bigger. Money and exposure x 10. That's the answer.
